Well, this will be the last Song of the Day post for the next 12 days or so as I head out to Europe. A group of us from school are heading to England, France, Switzerland and Italy and since I posted songs from England and France already, and I don't know any music from Switzerland, I thought I'd post a song from the country of my heritage, Italia. Nek is one of the very first Italian singers I discovered along the years...I'd categorize him as pop-rock...and this is his first song of his I discovered, and it's still my favorite. Check out La Vita Ê (Life Is)...

Song of the Day - Two Ghosts - Harry Styles
We're not who we used to be
We're not who we used to be
We're just two ghosts
Standing in a glass half empty
Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
I'm going to Europe in just a couple of days and for those couple of days I'll be posting tunes from artists who hail from the countries I'll be visiting. First up is Great Britain and Harry Styles. How could I not? Lol. If you follow this blog regularly, you know how highly I think of his debut solo album. Anyway, here's Harry performing a sweet ballad in the studio, Two Ghosts...

New Music Fridays, March 23rd, 2018 - Hot Stuff!
Hello and welcome again to my weekly New Music Fridays post, where I put the spotlight on my picks for the best new music of the week. There were a lot of songs I bookmarked this week and it was hard to narrow it down to just five, but here goes...
Shawn Mendes fans were certainly happy this Friday with the release of two brand new songs, In My Blood and Lost In Japan. Both songs continue to show that this young talent is just that...a talent. The first one's got that raw, emotional feel and is instantly likable, while the second is a little more upbeat and sweet! Check out both songs right here...
Flames - David Guetta and Sia
It's been awhile since David Guetta and Sia have gotten together to make some music, and boy did they make a winner this time. Like their previous big hit, Titanium, this one's inspirational and though not as clubby as the former, it's got a really nice groove. Check out Flames...
Say Amen (Saturday Night) - Panic at the Disco
I never thought I would spotlight a Panic at the Disco song on this blog. They're really just not my thing, but this song is just powerfully fun, and so is the video. Check out Say Amen (Saturday Night)...
Nirvana - INNA
I've been a big fan of Romanian singer INNA since her 2010 tropical house tune Sun Is Up. Well, she's got a new album and the title cut has just been released as a single. It is hot! Check out Nirvana...
As I mentioned earlier, there were lots of nice new tunes this week. Here are my honorable mentions, most of whom almost made the cut above. Check them out below and I will see you in a couple of weeks as I will be on vacay...
Psychopath - Charlotte Lawrence, Nina Nesbitt, Sasha Sloan
Love Me Still - BLVK JVCK, Jessie Reyez
Differently - Marian Hill
Be Easy - Timeflies
Loui - NVDES
Timezone - The Shadowboxers
Crash - Burak Yeter
Just Wanna Dance - Spencer Ludwig
Shotgun - George Ezra
Song of the Day - Put Me Back Together - Cheat Codes, feat. Kiiara
We're going to slow it down this Monday with a fresh, sweet track from EDM trio Cheat Codes, with some awesome vocals from Kiiara. Check out Put Me Back Together...

Song of the Day - Pum Pum - Messiah, Kap G, Play-N-Skillz
Here's a lil Latin rap throw-down for your Sunday. This one's just plain hip-shakingly fun! Check out Pum Pum...

Song of the Day - Lambo - Eben
Eben Franckewicz is a former American Idol season 11 contestant who didn't finish in the top 12, but it's no matter though, as Eben's new single rocks! The title and subject of LAMBO are obviously humorous and seemingly silly, but everything about this tune is dynamite...nice vocals, fun rhythms and an 80's, new waveish backbeat that hearkens the likes of Bronski Beat or even New Order. Check out the equally entertaining video for LAMBO...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Barracuda - Heart
I have no idea why, but I've had this tune in my head for the last 24 hours. Maybe because it reminds me of my trip to Las Vegas back in November. My brother and I had a blast in old Vegas, where this amazing technotronic show played on the giant screen overhead to the music of Heart. Classic rock jam! Here's Barracuda...

Hump Day Song of the Day - The Hell Happened to Us - Quinn XCII, Kailee Morgue
Here's a nice alternative pop song that turned up more search results concerning the affairs of our country than the song I was searching for. Great tune, btw...

New Music Fridays, March 16th, 2018
Hello and welcome once again to New Music Fridays, even though it's Monday, lol. I bookmarked a lot of songs this week, and it was hard to cram it down to just five, but here goes...
Okay, well any new Chainsmokers' tune will almost always get attention from me. They've been that high on my list as long as they've been around. This time, though, I'm not a huge fan. The boys newest track picks up on the same theme as their last two singles, Sick Boy and You Owe Me...no romantic happiness, no sweetness, just some more self-deprecating whining. The only bright spot is that this one does carry a twinge of EDM. Check it out and see...
Freaky Friday - Lil Dicky, Chris Brown
I have to admit that I never heard of Lil Dicky before. Apparently he's a 30 year old comedian/rapper and he just put out his first song in over three years with R&B bad boy Chris Brown...and I love it! The song takes its' name from the famous movie and the vid for the tune shows the two artists switching spots. Pretty good! Oh, and check out some of the cameos, too! Check out Freaky Friday...
Done For Me - Charlie Puth, Kehlani
Charlie Puth follows up his highly successful, and funky, How Long with a nice collaboration featuring the likes of Oakland-based songstress Kehlani. This one's as funky as the former, and it's full of pop smoothness, as well. Check out Done For Me...
Answerphone - Banx & Ranx, Ella Eyre, Yxng Bane
Though there are some big names in this week's new music tracks, they aren't necessarily the best of the best. Banx & Ranx's newest is nothing but a hip shakin' slice of pure dance pleasure. Check out Answerphone...
Remind Me to Forget - Kygo, Miguel
Oh, two of my favorite artists together on one track! R&B singer Miguel's voice lends itself wonderfully to Kygo's beats. Awesome!
All in all, this was a really nice week in new music, not only the ones featured here, but for these honorable mentions, as well:
Alone - Halsey, Big Sean
Let It Be - Hayley Kyoko
Over You - Kasbo, Frida Sundemo
Alien - Sabrina Carpenter, Jonas Blue
Be Like You - Whethan, Broods
Over My Head - Echosmith
Strawberries & Cigarettes - Troye Sivan
Song of the Day - Pray For Me - The Weekend, Kendrick Lamar
Here's a hot track from the soundtrack to Marvel's Black Panther. Check out The Weekend, Kendrick Lamar and one hot groove with Pray For Me...

Song of the Day - Give Me Something - Callum Scott
You may or may not remember Britain's Got Talent finalist Callum Scott for his version of Robyn's Dancing On My Own, which I just learned bested the original, chart-wise, peaking at #93 on Billboard's Hot 100 (Robyn's, surprisingly, never even charted.). Well, Callum's got a brand new album out, his debut called Only Human, and this song is kinda sorta like a rock power ballad and it's getting a lot of plays during my music time. Check out a live performance of the tune, as well as an audio of the original if that's what you prefer. Here's Give Me Something...

Song of the Day - You've Got the Love - Florence + The Machine
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I think that Florence + The Machine is the only thing I have in my music library even remotely connected to the Emerald Isle and so... It's been way too long since we've heard from Ms. Florence, no? Methinks! Here's her classic You've Got the Love...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Come Baby Come - K7
The other day I was making an 80's playlist with my pal Kyle, and of course I had to throw some freestyle into the mix. Once I'd looked at the some of the songs, I found myself in a freestyle frenzy, reliving all of the great tunes from TKA, Sweet Sensation, Stevie B, Safire, and so many more. I just knew I had to post a freestyle jam for today. Unfortunately, back in those days there weren't too many videos made. I had wanted to post a TKA song...One Way Love, Maria...but I couldn't find any vids for their stuff other than live performances of tunes in recent years. Not what I wanted. Then I came across K7's Come Baby Come. For those of you who don't know, K7 was one of the members of TKA and he made one solo album, Swing Batta, Swing back in 1993 that spawned a couple of hits, including this rap/dance jam. Check out Come Baby Come...

New Music Fridays, March 9th, 2018
Better late than never! Due to reasons beyond my control I haven't been able to review this week's crop of new music until just this morning. Nevertheless, there's some great stuff to be heard from this week's new music releases, so check it out...
Wassup - Logic, Big Sean
I don't usually highlight hip hop/rap tunes on this feature, but I'm making a rare exception with this one. Maybe it's because I like Big Sean, but really it's because it's kind of like old school rap, with a killer hook undercutting the raps throughout the jam. Check out the groove on Wassup...
My Life - ZHU, Tame Impala
I've loved the chill vibes of Zhu ever since 2015's Hold Up Wait a Minute, with Bone Thugs and Harmony, and this week the EDM artist returns with a chill vibe that to me hearkens the sounds of the spring that's coming. Check out My Life...
Baby I'm a Queen - Sofi Tukker
If you follow this blog regularly, then you know that Sofi Tukker is one of my most watched acts in the past year or so. Well they've finally announced the release of a complete album due out next month called Treehouse. Along with the announcement comes a new single, and it's as cool and funky as anything they've ever done. Check out Baby I'm a Queen on Conan...
Talk - Liv Dawson
British singer/songwriter Liv Dawson returns to the music scene with a ear-pleasing pop tune that got island sounds and a nice, catchy chorus. Check out Talk...
MyBoi - Billie Eilish, TroyBoi

Magic - Sia
Wide Awake - Parquet Courts
Colors - Jason Derulo
Song of the Day - Hazy Shade of Winter - The Bangles
After missing my first Song of the Day post of the year yesterday, we return to a dreaded yet welcome, snow day. Yes folks, we're at that time of the year where we're all ready for this winter to be over, but once again Mother Nature reminds us that we are not. Here's The Bangles with Hazy Shade of Winter...

Song of the Day - Waka Waka - Shakira
Greetings from Albany, New York. I am currently chaperoning a group of Hispanic students from Long Island who are attending the Annual Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute, a wonderful program founded by Angelo De Toro, New York State's first Latino representative in New York State government. Every year, Hispanic students from all over New York get together for a weekend of leadership activities designed to help these kids learn to be leaders of tomorrow. The theme of this year's conference is social activism through art and the kids did an awesome job last night on their own artistic expressions, which brings me to Shakira's Waka Waka. Some of the performances that the students wrote and performed reminded me of this song and video. Check out Waka Waka...

Song of the Day - Tongue - MNEK
Today's track is from an artists who's one song I like...love...love so much that I always pay attention whenever he releases something new. As I said in last week's New Music Fridays post, nothing I've heard really turned me on like More Than a Miracle. One would think that from the promotion of this song, whatever record company invested in it thinks it's worthy of being a hit, and it's definitely the best I've heard from him, so who knows. Check out the funky Tongue...
Flashback Friday Song of the Day - She Works Hard For the Money - Donna Summer
In the first couple of hours after I posted yesterday's song of the day I learned that yesterday was International Women's Day, and of course with my musically-centered mind, I immediately thought of what song I would have posted in its honor. Of course, Donna Summer's She Works Hard For the Money is the ultimate shout out to hard working women everywhere. I remember the story behind it, how Donna was inspired by a real life waitress she's seen in a restaurant and how big of a hit it became at the time. It's still a great song. Enjoy a vintage performance of the tune...

Song of the Day - Whatever You Want - P!nk
Here's P!nks latest video for her song Whatever You Want. It's one of the few songs I love from the beautiful Trauma album and curiously doesn't show up on the setlist for her shows that just began a little over a week ago. Here's Whatever You Want...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Mad Love - Sean Paul, David Guetta, feat. Becky G
Here's a hot, fresh new track from Sean Paul and David Guetta, featuring the vocals of Becky G. This one's got it all...nice beats, great vocals and the awesome, familiar island raps of Sean Paul. Check out Mad Love...

Song of the Day - The Wave - R3HAB, Lia Marie Johnson
It was just a couple of weeks ago that I posted a nice house jam, Lullaby, by Dutch deejay/producer R3HAB. Well now here's another gem that's more chill than house. The Wave does have it's uplifting moments, most notably at the accompanying beats to deep-voiced Lia Marie Johnson's vocals at the chorus. Otherwise, the track's got a nice, easy-breezy chill vibe to it. One of my favorite new music tracks of the year so far! Check out The Wave...

Song of the Day - Go Baby Go - Beth Ditto
It's so funny how things work sometimes. It was last summer that I first discovered the very cool Beth Ditto, who had just released her first solo album, Fake Sugar. The former lead singer of the dance-punk band Gossip incorporated a lot of different genres into this work and the hip, retro sounds of In and Out got me hooked on first listen. After hearing it yesterday morning I had decided I was going to revisit that one, but then I had a spontaneous dinner with my pal Sonny and she had this one on her playlist in the car. Go Baby Go is another one of those funkdified, head bopping tunes that'll get ya moving every time. Too bad there isn't a vid for this one, so you're just going to have to settle for the audio of Go Baby Go...

Song of the Day - Make Me Feel - Janelle Monáe
Good morning and Happy Sunday! Today we've got Ms. Janelle Monáe channeling her inner Prince in this down and dirty funkalicious jam. It was the best tune from last week's crop of new music tracks and I am digging it more and more with each listen. Check out Make Me Feel...

Song of the Day - Deep Breaths - Lookas, feat. Cal
Here's a nice, chill tune that I highlighted in last week's New Music Fridays. The song's got a nice, summer vibe and is the perfect song for any lounge playlist. Check out Lookas, Cal and Deep Breaths...

New Music Fridays, March 2nd, 2018 - A Hot Week of New Music
Much better! After last week's less than stellar round of new music releases, this first Friday in March had me saving tunes all over the place. I saved many tracks this week, and the mix of songs runs the gamut from sweet ballads to rap gems to funky beats and everything in between. To top it off, as I ran through them a second and third time in preparing this post, all of the pieces fell into place, with five tunes worthy of spotlight and several honorable mentions, and even the ones that don't make either cut here I am looking forward to getting to know. Check out this week's hot tunes:
It was just about two years ago that I discovered MNEK and his amazing neo-freestyle jam, More Than a Miracle. Ever since then I've kept my eye out for new stuff from this mysterious singer, and though I've seen one or two in the time since, I haven't found anything that quite captured the magic of that song. Well, the British singer has got a brand new track from hjis forthcoming debut solo set and though it's not quite the as good as the previous jam, it is good enough to warrant your attention. Tongue shows of the multiple talents of MNEK, with R&B and rap vocals and combines it with a clicky dance beat that's just, well, groovalicious! Check out Tongue...
Good Vibes - ALMA, Tove Styrke
Finnish pop star ALMA has dropped a six-song mixtape called Heavy Rules, and this hot track from the record features the talents of Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Styrke. The tune is pure pop pleasure and it surely deserves to be heard. Check out the track on YouTube or the entire mixtape below:
No Excuses - Meghan Trainor
There's no doubt that Meghan Trainor has got a knack for writing and performing catchy catchy pop songs, and this debut single off her forthcoming third album is more of the same sassy stuff we've become accustomed to from the popstress. Check out No Excuses...
Beautiful - What So Not, Winona Clark
I'm not sure if it's the name of the song or the artist, but this one was hard to find on the Internet! Nevertheless, we've got a great, middle of the night dance floor jam on our hands here. Beautiful has got nice ethereal vocals set to some slamming beats. Check out Beautiful...
War Paint - Frankie Simone
Brash and open Portland-based, and lesbian, singer Frankie Simone has put out an immediately likable tune that reminds me a lot of an old Adam and the Ants tune combined with some other 80's new wavy pop. The chant is catchy and the drumbeats catchier and yeah, the video is pretty hard not to watch, too! Check out War Paint...
Good stuff, for sure! As promised, here are this week's honorable mentions, all worth checking out:
Black Car - Miriam Bryant
Need You - Flight Facilities, NIKA
Run - TV Noise, Drew Love
Pum Pum - Messiah, Kap G, Play-N-Skillz
Put Me Back Together - Cheat Codes, Kiiara
Powerglide - Rae Sremmurd, Juicy J
Magic - Rudy Mancuso, Maia Mitchell
Dancer - Flo Rida
Flashback Friday Song of the Day - When I Hear Music - Debbie Deb
Here's a classic dance tune from way back in 1983 that still gets heard on the radio today even though it never even charted. Check out Debbie Deb and the funky, hypnotic When I Hear Music...

Song of the Day - Parallel Lines - DVBBS, CMC$, feat. Happy Sometimes
Here's a happy dance jam from last summer that I may have missed posting. Luckily for me it came up in one of my playlists on Spotify and I immediately knew I wanted to share it. The tune is bright and summery and yeah, take a listen and bring yourself just a couple of months forward. Yeah! Check out Parallel Lines...
