Song of the Day - Benadryl - Sofi Tukker

I lost my sanity with my socks
One at a time, I barely noticed
'Til one day I found they all were gone
I couldn't find them and I couldn't focus

Sofi Tukker – Benadryl Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

We gotta put this to bed
('Cause I got some things to do
I got some things to do)
We gotta put this to bed
('Cause I got some things to do
I got some things to do)
Oh, how you make me laugh
Benadryl in the bath

Great song!  Enjoy...

Image result for playa grande sofi tukker

I love virtually anything Sofi Tukker does, and this collaboration with Columbian duo Bomba Estéreo is no different. Even if you don't understand the language, the music itself beckons summer. Enjoy Playa Grande...

I absolutely love everything Sofi Tukker does, and although this tune is much tamer than much of what they've done, I think it's one of my favorites!  Check out Fantasy...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Everybody Needs a Kiss - Benny Benassi, Sofi Tukker

Image result for everybody needs a kiss

Here's a hot collaboration from last June that somehow slipped past my radar.  It's the hot Sofi Tukker with superstar deejay/producer Benny Benassi with a pulsating three-plus minutes of dance floor Heaven.  Check out Everybody Needs a Kiss...

New Music Fridays, September 28th, 2018

Let's get right down to business...

Honey - Robyn

Oh yes, the countdown to October 26th and Robyn's first new album in 8 years continues with the release of another song, Honey.  Whereas the first one, Missing U, is typically Robyn, sounding like any of the songs off Body Talk, Honey is a little softer, mellower, but still, Oh so good!  Check it out...

Moves - Olly Murs, Snoop Dogg

One of my favorite new tunes of the week is this very likable track from British recording artist Olly Murs, featuring none other than Snoop Dogg. Check out Moves...

Brazilian Soul - The Knocks, Sofi Tukker

Two of my current favorite dance acts get together for some smooth, pulsating rhythms
and a nice, chill vibe.  Check out Brazilian Soul...

Behave - Benjamin Ingrosso

Swedish singer Benjamin Ingrosso's debut album is out, and this tune from that album is really sweet!  Check out Behave...

New Music Fridays, June 29th, 2018 - A Nice Variety of New Music

This has been an oddly good week in new music, though at first listen, I wasn't crazy about any of the tunes spotlighted here.  The ones I chose are varied in genre, but all pretty damned good, so check out this week's offerings...

Don't Matter to Me - Drake, Michael Jackson

Undoubtedly the biggest new music story of the week was the dropping of Drake's brand new double album, Scorpion.  Not a huge Drake fan here, but there are definitely some tunes in his catalog that I do love, and they all tend to be more on the R&B side, like this whopper of a surprise.  Apparently, the Canadian rapper/singer delved into some of Michael Jackson's later work and used the King of Pop's vocals withing the overall construction of this song.  Pitchfork has an incredibly amazing piece on this.  Check out a sound-clip of Don't Matter to Me...

Lovers - LoKii, REMMI

Here's a sweet, catchy tune by dance artists LoKii and REMMI.  Check out Lovers...

Bad Love - Sean Paul, Ellie Goulding

It's been a long time since we've heard anything from Ellie Goulding, but now she's back with a funky new reggae-tinged dance track featuring none other than Sean Paul.  Check out Bad Love...

Everybody Needs a Kiss - Benny Benassi, Sofi Tukker

Here's a brand new collaboration between Italian producer Benny Benassi and the hot hot Sofi Tukker.  This one, like virtually anything ST touches, is golden.  Check out Everybody Needs a Kiss...

Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You - Sheryl Crow, Annie Clark

Wow!  I haven't paid virtually any attention to Sheryl Crow in years, but this new collaboration with fellow female guitarist extraordinaire Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, is wicked good!  The song is a political rant against climate change deniers and you've just got to hear it.  Here's Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You...

I think I'm going to skip any honorable mentions this week.  Nothing really particularly stands out to not here, but you can always check out the New Music Fridays playlist on Spotify.

New Music Fridays, June 1st, 2018

Being that I'm so late with this week's New Music Fridays (Time constraints and pc issues! Grrr!!!!), I'm only going to share a couple of songs that struck me this past week and you can check out the honorable mentions below for more.  So here we go...

Dad Hair - Sofi Tukker X Ricky Reed Remix

Just in time for Pride Month comes this sexually charged 'love song' between a dad and his son.  Warning: not for the uptight or feeble-minded.  Here's Dad Hair...

2002 - Anne-Marie

I have been digging this British singer Anne-Marie, and she's just come up with a beautiful acoustic ballad co-written by none other than Ed Sheeran.  Check out 2002...

I'm Upset - Drake

I've never been a huge fan of Drake, but every once in awhile he puts out something that I can really dig.  This one's got the Canadian rapper/R&B singer well, upset, and though it's getting mixed reviews from critics, I like it because it reminds me of an old school rap song.  Check out I'm Upset on Spotify.

Honorable Mentions:

5 In the Morning - Charli XCX
Girls Just Like You - Maroon 5, Cardi B
Spread Love (Paddington) - Boston Bun, DVNO
Sad & Bored - bulow, Duckwrth
Humility - Gorillaz, George Benson
sex money feelings die - Lykke Li
Lost My Mind - Lily Allen
Iguana Bird - Pete Yorn, Scarlett Johansson
How You've Been - R3HAB, Quinn Lewis

New Music Fridays, April 13th, 2018

I'm back from Europe and all ready to go.  I'm sorry that I missed two weeks of new music tracks, but I did manage to check some stuff out which I will hopefully be sharing on Song of the Day posts in the days and weeks ahead.  I the meantime, we've got five new songs to get through...all good stuff:

Barbie Tingz - Nicki Minaj

It's been about three and a half years since Nicki Minaj released a studio album, and for all of you Nicki fans out there, your long wait is over.  On Thursday, Minaj released two new tracks from an upcoming fourth studio album, Chun-Li and Barbie Tingz.  Both songs are old school Nicki and should definitely bring some excitement back to fans who may have strayed in Nicki's solo magnificence.  Of the two, I prefer Barbie Tingz, so check it out...

Sky Full of Song - Florence + The Machine

In another pleasant return, Florence + The Machine is back with a vintage ballad replete with strings, piano and Flo.  Great stuff!  Check out Sky Full of Song...

That's It (I'm Crazy) - Sofi Tukker

Sofi Tukker's debut album, Treehouse, is out and the newest single to pop the charts is yet another fast and funky jam which hearkens back to Wild Cherry.  Check out That's It (I'm Crazy)...

Good Thing - Kideko

Dance artist Kideko is out with a brand new cut of discoey goodness for Ministry of Sound.  With a funky backbeat and some hot vocals, this one'll be on my playlist for some time to come.  Check out Good Thing...

Pynk - Janelle Monae, feat. Grimes

Janelle Monae's newest single from her forthcoming album, Dirty Computer, is a multi-dimensional collaboration with singer Grimes.  The tune begins slowly and deliberately, with a nice, steady bet, then opens up with a lil bit of funk on the chorus.  I'd consider the song a ballad, but it is one heck of a ballad!  Check out Pynk...

Well, there you have it, my top five picks for new music tracks of the week.  Stay tuned for more in the weeks ahead and in the meantime, also check out this week's honorable mentions...

Miracle - Chvrches
Let Me - Zayn
Better Not - Louis the Child, feat. Wafia
Desperate - REMMI

Song of the Day - Baby I'm a Queen - Sofi Tukker

Sofi Tukker is on fire with their latest track from their upcoming debut album Treehouse.  Check out the thumping Baby I'm a Queen...

New Music Fridays, March 9th, 2018

Better late than never!  Due to reasons beyond my control I haven't been able to review this week's crop of new music until just this morning.  Nevertheless, there's some great stuff to be heard from this week's new music releases, so check it out...

Wassup - Logic, Big Sean

I don't usually highlight hip hop/rap tunes on this feature, but I'm making a rare exception with this one.  Maybe it's because I like Big Sean, but really it's because it's kind of like old school rap, with a killer hook undercutting the raps throughout the jam.  Check out the groove on Wassup...

My Life - ZHU, Tame Impala

I've loved the chill vibes of Zhu ever since 2015's Hold Up Wait a Minute, with Bone Thugs and Harmony, and this week the EDM artist returns with a chill vibe that to me hearkens the sounds of the spring that's coming.  Check out My Life...

Baby I'm a Queen - Sofi Tukker

If you follow this blog regularly, then you know that Sofi Tukker is one of my most watched acts in the past year or so.  Well they've finally announced the release of a complete album due out next month called Treehouse.  Along with the announcement comes a new single, and it's as cool and funky as anything they've ever done.  Check out Baby I'm a Queen on Conan...

Talk - Liv Dawson

British singer/songwriter Liv Dawson returns to the music scene with a ear-pleasing pop tune that got island sounds and a nice, catchy chorus.  Check out Talk...

MyBoi - Billie Eilish, TroyBoi

London-based remixer TroyBoi takes a sweet Billie Eilish tune and turns it into a trip-hop masterpiece!  Check out this hypnotic mix of MyBoi...

So there you have it...five hot new tunes for your listening pleasure.  Stay tuned for net week's edition of New Music Fridays and in the meantime check out this week's honorable mentions...

Fly - Marshmello, Leah Culver
Minimum Wage - REMMI
Give Me Something - Callum Scott
Magic - Sia
Wide Awake - Parquet Courts
Colors - Jason Derulo

Good morning and Happy Hump Day!  Here's a fast n' funky high energy jam by dynamic duo Sofi Tukker, and what's even cooler is that Energia is sung in Portuguese.  Hella cool!

Best of 2017 Song of the Day - Best Friend - Sofi Tukker, feat. NERVO, The Knocks, Alisa Ueno

Image result for best friend sofi tucker

I've been working on my lists for best dance song, pop songs and albums from 2017 and so I'll be featuring a few in this week's Song of the Day posts.  Here's an artist that has had a very big 2017.  I remember first discovering and posting their song Johny back in January.  I thought it was very different, very avante garde retro Euro.  I didn't think much more about the New York-based duo until the summer, when I first came across their hi-energy, fast and frenzied F**k They.  I became a bona fide fan.

The duo's next single was yet another funky, high energy track that became very-well known for its spot in the commercial for Apple's new iPhone x.  For me, it's one of the best dance hits of the year.  Check out Best Friend...

New Music Fridays, November 24th, 2017 - Five Hot New Tracks

nmf-logo-rgb-stacked_blue-navy

Hello and welcome back to John's World's New Music Fridays, a look at the freshest new music tunes of the week.  This was an unusual week for new music, with no big names releasing new stuff, but as always there is something to whet your new music whistle.  Check it out...

Energia - Sofi Tukker

I am loving Sofi Tukker with each new release!  Energia, their latest, is a fast and frenzied high energy track that's sung in Brazilian Portuguese.  The track was released on November 17th, but for whatever reason it didn't come to my ears until just yesterday.  Check out Energia...

Is Your Love Enough - Little Mix

British girl group Little Mix have returned to the radio and the dance floor with this Latin-inspired dance-pop tune.  With infectious rhythms and pulsating beats, this one's a winner!  Check out Is Your Love Enough...

Cool - Basic Tape, feat. Huntar

Here's another great tune from an obscure act called Basic Tape.  The vocals on this tune have a nice, soulful, rockish sound, and is backed by a nice pop melody.  Catchy track!  Check out Cool...

My Way - One Bit, Noah Cyrus

One of my favorite tracks this week comes from a British production team featuring the vocals of 17 year old phenom Noah Cyrus, who's been featured on several singles as of late.  The tune is a straight up dance floor filler, for sure.  With funky beats and strong vocals, yeah this one gets me going.  Check out My Way...

Don't Slam the Door - Icona Pop

Who ever thought we'd hear from Swedish dup Icona Pop again after their 2012 smash I Love It.  Well they're back and with a completely different sound.  Contrary to the former tune, this one's a lot more mid-tempo and almost...almost a little country sounding, but it works!  Check out Don't Slam the Door for yourself...

Well that's all for this week in hot new music tracks.  As always, thanks for checking out New Music Fridays.  Stay tuned for more and in the meantime, check out some of this week's honorable mentions...

struggle - Tove Lo
Rabbit Hole - Forever In Your Mind
Talk to Me - Kiera Weathers
Mistakes - Basenji, Maidza

Song of the Day - Best Friend - Sofi Tukker, feat. NERVO, The Knocks, & Alisa Ueno

Image result for best friend sofi tucker
I am loving NY based duo Sofi Tukker more and more with each new release.  Here's their latest, a tune I highlighted in last week's New Music Fridays.  Best Friend is fast, frenzied, and oh so sexy!  I only wish there were a video for it.  Maybe when it comes out I'll feature it again.  For now, anyway, check it out...

New Music Fridays, September 15th, 2017 - Fresh New Tracks

Hello and welcome back to John's Music World New Music Fridays.  It's been kind of a slow week in the new music world, well for me at least, but as always there are a few gems to be found.  Read on...

Too Much To Ask - Niall Haron

Former One Direction member Niall Horan celebrated his 24th birthday this week with an announcement of his debut forthcoming solo album, Flicker, and a brand new song.  Too Much To Ask is a beautifully performed ballad that, along with his previous song This Town, just might bring him in league with fellow One Directioner Harry Styles as one serious solo crooner.  Take a listen to Too Much To Ask...

Best Friend - Sofi Tukker

The New York based duo Sofi Tukker has been growing on me more and more ever since I first came across their song Johny and it now looks like the rest of the world is catching on.   Their latest, Best Friend, is even more infectious than the ultra-clubby F**k They, which is saying a lot.  Check out the awesome Best Friend...

Find You - Nick Jonas

Former Jonas Brothers member gone solo superstar Nick Jonas had slowed down quite a bit after his breakthrough eponymous album, but now he's back with his second single of the year, and it's a sweet ballad that's clearly bests his prior single, Remember I Told You.  This one's impossible to find anywhere on the Internet, so I highly suggest checking it out on Spotify.

How You Feeling - Superfruit

Openly gay duo YouTube stars and musicians have released their latest single this week and it is instantly likable for it's nice rhythms and catchy hook.  Check out How You Feeling...

Flags - Shoffy, with Yuna

Anybody who follows this blog knows how much I love chill music.  Well, this fresh track has all of the resident ingredients of a great chill tune...soft, easy-breezy vocals and a smooth smooth groove. Check out Flags...

So there you have it, my picks for the best new music this week.  There's some exciting stuff coming up in the weeks ahead, so as always, stay tuned.

Hump Day Song of the Day - F**k They = Sofi Tukker

Image result for fuck they sofi tukker

Back in January I posted this song called Johny by an alternative duo that call themselves Sofi Tukker.  The song was very Euro-alternative and I really liked it, but I hadn't come across anything else by the duo in the months since, so I really forgot about them.  But when I was penning July 28th's New Music Fridays, I came across this mindless, bass-thumping and very funky jam with the explicit and I thought I recognized the name, but wasn't sure exactly who they were until just a litle while ago.  The two songs are so different, I never would have guessed they were recorded by the same artist, but yeah, that voice of singer Sophie Hawley-Weld is unmistakable on both.  Funky, funky song, really, but warning, explicit lyrics ahead...

New Music Fridays: July 28th, 2017 - Hot, Fresh Tracks

Hey and welcome back to John's Music World New Music Fridays.  I apologize for the tardiness in this week's post, but I was away until Monday night and there were an inordinate amount of new tunes to pore through and choose for this week's spotlight.  So without further adieu, here are some of my favorite new songs from this past week, and the week's offerings are so good, there's way more than five:

Would You Ever - Skrillex & Poo Bear

I've never been a big Skrillex fan...always seemed a little too hardcore for me, but this fresh new one's got a great, thumping, happy groove.  Check it out...

Medusa - Grace Savage

I love a great chill tune, you know, the kind of song that you can be playing that makes great background music that's doesn't get in the way of good conversation yet keeps everyone grooving in their head. Yeah, that's this one...

Learn to Let Go - Ke$ha

Oh, Ms. Ke$ha's got a brand new sound.  With all of the tribulations she's gone through over the past couple of years, she's come out of it and is now proving what a prolific and talented songwriter she truly is.  Gone are the days of brushing teeth with a bottle of Jack and here we are treated to a more mature and thoughtful singer/songwriter...and it works!  Check out Learn to Let Go...

Fashion - Randa

Here's one of those songs I just can't seem to find anywhere on the Internet, but it is definitely worth a mention here.  The tune's got a hot groove and the vocals are rapalicious!  Check it out on Spotify.

F*ck They - Sofi Tucker

Here's a mindless and hypnotic, bassy dance tune by dance duo Sofi Tucker.  Check it out...warning, explicit lyrics ahead...

There you have it, five of the freshest new tracks from this past week.  As I said, though, where last week's selections were slim pickins', there are even more new and noteworthy tunes from this week. Here are the honorable mentions...

Don't Wanna Wake Up - Capital Kings - A nice, dancey tune.

No Fear - DeJ Loaf - R&B groovealicious!

Hide & Seek - Felon - I almost chose to highlight this thumping dance track, but here it is anyway.

New Romantics - Taylor Swift - I am not now, nor have ever been a Taylor Swift fan, but this is one tune that's surely pleasing to the ears.

Make It Up to You - Julia Michaels - This one reminds me a little of early Kelis, with a thumping beat, deep, sexy vocals and finger-snapping beats to boot.

Well that's it for now.  Hopefully this coming Friday's list of new songs won't be so extensive.  For now, though, I'm going to be enjoying some of this hot new stuff.  I hope you will be too!

Song of the Day - Johny - Sofi Tukker

Image result for johnny sofi tukker

Sofi Tukker is a New York-based duo consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern and I discovered this French-inspired gem during my latest rampage on Spotify.   The song Johny has got a neat and thumping guitar/bass track and the vocals are very reminiscent of what I'd think you might hear in a club in Paris.  Very cool...
