New Music Fridays, October 19th, 2018

Well I've been a busy boy lately, and I just haven't had the time to put out any new music posts.  But I'm back, and it's been a good week...

Don't Leave Me Alone - David Guetta, Anne-Marie, EDX

This mix of David Guetta's Don't Leave Me Alone by EDX has me loving this track even more.  Anne-Marie's vocals are oh so good!  Check it out...

This hot new track from the soundtrack to the forthcoming film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verses, is pretty damned mesmerizing.  Check out Sunflower...

Revelation - Troye Sivan, Jonsi

Troye Sivan and Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi have released a collaboration to be featured in the upcoming feature film Boy Erased, in which Sivan stars.  The ethereal song is befitting of the film, which follows the gay son of a Baptist priest as he is forced to undergo conversion therapy after it is discovered that he is gay.  Check out Revelation...

Newcomer Dominic Fike releases his debut song and it is immediately likable for it's catchy sounds.  Check out 3 Nights...

New Music Fridays, September 28th, 2018

Let's get right down to business...

Honey - Robyn

Oh yes, the countdown to October 26th and Robyn's first new album in 8 years continues with the release of another song, Honey.  Whereas the first one, Missing U, is typically Robyn, sounding like any of the songs off Body Talk, Honey is a little softer, mellower, but still, Oh so good!  Check it out...

Moves - Olly Murs, Snoop Dogg

One of my favorite new tunes of the week is this very likable track from British recording artist Olly Murs, featuring none other than Snoop Dogg. Check out Moves...

Brazilian Soul - The Knocks, Sofi Tukker

Two of my current favorite dance acts get together for some smooth, pulsating rhythms
and a nice, chill vibe.  Check out Brazilian Soul...

Swedish singer Benjamin Ingrosso's debut album is out, and this tune from that album is really sweet!  Check out Behave...

British artist Rationale releases this nice, smooth R&B gem that's very easy on the ears.  Check out One by One...

New Music Fridays, September 21st, 2018

At first, I didn't think there would be enough new songs worthy of a spotlight here to make five, but as I re-listened to this week's new music tracks I found that there were, only not my usual dance fare.  Check out this week's new music tracks...

Zero - Imagine Dragons

Rockers Imagine Dragons have released a very likable song from the closing credits of the upcoming Disney film Ralph Breaks the Internet.  Check out the cool lyric video for Zero...

Lento - Rudy Mancuso

Though I've never heard of actor, musician and Internet personality Rudy Mancuso, he's apparently pretty popular.  The 26 year-old has a new song and video out that's pretty smooth, featuring lento, or slow, Latin/Brazilian sounds, and the video is pretty entertaining, too!  Check out Lento...

Imaginary Friend - MO

I am loving everything Danish singer/songwriter MO does, and this one's a little more sultry than what she usually puts out, but it's really good, nonetheless.  Check out Imaginary Friend...

Naturally Pretty Girls - Elle King

Singer Elle King is really coming into a steady roll with her newest, the follow-up to the sassy Shame.   Here she uses her words to show us just what she thinks of Naturally Pretty Girls.  Check it out...

Over You - Macy Gray

I've always loved Macy Gray, so I was very excited to see she put out a new album, and on this song she sounds just as good as ever.  Unfortunately there is not even a lyric video for the tune, but you can check it out on Spotify.

Here are this week's honorable mentions...

Bottled Up - Dinah Jane, Ty Dolla $ign, Mark E. Bassy
This Feeling - The Chainsmokers, Kelsea Ballerini

New Music Fridays, September 14th, 2018 - Much Better!

Much better!  After last week's less than stellar new music releases, we've got quite a few new and noteworthy songs in the lineup this week.  Our spotlight includes new tracks by David Guetta, with Bebe Rexha and J. Balvin, Don Diablo with Emeli Sandé and Gucci Mane, new Lana Del Rey, Mariah Carey and more, so check it out...

Say My Name - David Guetta, Bebe Rexha J. Balvin

David Guetta is known for his work with the hottest acts in the music scene throughout his career, and he does it again on a hot new track with the hot and sexy Bebe Rexha and celebrated reggaeton maestro J.Balvin.  Check out a preview snippet of Say My Name...

Mariner's Apartment Complex - Lana Del Ray

Independent sensation Lana Del Rey is back with a new gem, the first from a forthcoming follow-up to 2017's Lust For Life.  The song is vintage Lana, slow and sultry.  Check out Mariner's Apartment Complex...

Survive - Don Diablo, Emeli Sandé, Gucci Mane

One of my favorite tracks out of this week's crop is this well-rounded dance masterpiece by Don Diablo, featuring the angelic and hypnotic voices of Emeli Sandé and Gucci Mane, respectively.  Check out Survive...

Stole Your Car - Charlotte Lawrence

Up and coming indie singer Charlotte Lawrence has put out a song that's very deserving of a spotlight.  Stole Your Car is a combination of slower, downbeat verses and some smooth and satisfying up tempo melodies at the chorus.  Check it out right here...

Dose - Ciara

R&B singer Ciara is back with the second single from her forthcoming 7th studio album and it is a high energy jam, replete with hot beats and even hotter horns.  Check out Dose...

I am certainly looking forward to learning these songs even more in the next few days, but there's even more noteworthy stuff in our honorable mentions.  Check it out...

Tears & Tantrums - XYLO
Blacklight - The Ting Tings

New Music Fridays, September 7th, 2018 - A Slow Week...

Out of the many new songs released this week, I only bookmarked eight, probably the lowest ever.  No big names, not a lot of dance stuff, not much at all.  In fact as I went through the listing of 100+ tracks, I was hitting the next button very quickly and often.  That being said, only two of the eight new music tunes released this week are truly worthy of a spotlight, so for what it's worth, check em out...

Drunk and I Miss You - KIDDO, Decco

One of the better tunes I bookmarked this week is this pop/rockish song that's pretty catchy and has a nice groove, as well.  Check out Drunk and I Miss You...

Way Down - MO

I've loved virtually everything Danish singer MO has put out and this one is fast and very funky.  Check out Way Out...

Though I've only spotlighted two songs this week, there are others, of course, that are worthy of attention.  Here are this week's honorable mentions..

Just Got Paid - Segala, Ella Eyre, Meghan Trainor, French Montana
Look Up Child - Lauren Daigle
Be Somebody - Steve Aoki, Kiiara, Nicky Romero
Lucky One - Tom Morello, K. Flay

Song of the Day - Promises - Calvin Harris, Sam Smith

Image result for promises - calvin harris, sam smith

Here's a hot new dance tune from Calvin Harris and Sam Smith that I previewed here just a couple of weeks ago.  The two have since released a video and we've got it right here.  Check out Promises...

New Music Fridays, August 31st, 2018 - Troye Sivan's Bloom and More

Image result for troye sivan bloom
The biggest news in new music this week is the release of Troye Sivan's highly anticipated sophomore album, Bloom.  I first discovered Sivan like many others, with the fantastic Wild, from his debut Blue Neighborhood.  Though I may do a review of the record, time permitting, Billboard has a great take on it right here.  I've listened to it a couple of times already and LOVE!  In the meantime, here are four new tunes to whet your appetites this week...

Spice - Michael Brun, Kah-Lo

Now here's a bass-y, bouncy, groove-alicious nugget from Haitian producer Michael Brun, featuring the hypnotic vocals of Nigerian singer Kah-Lo.  Check out Spice...

Deep Down - Zhavia Ward

Sadly, I've never heard of Zhavia Ward before, but with this soulful, rich jam I'm hearing shades of Lauryn Hill, a lil bit of Amy Winehouse and everything in between.  Love!  Check out Deep Down...

Body Talks - The Struts, Kesha

Kesha joins British band The Struts for a reworking of their song Body Talks and the result is some good old fashioned rock n roll.  Check it out...

Singles You Up - Jordan Davis, Ryan Riback

Louisiana country singer Jordan Davis has had his debut song given a remix by Ryan Riback and the results are surprisingly good.  Check out Singles You Up...

As always, there are even more nice new tunes to check out.  Here are this week's honorable mentions...

REMEDY - Alesso
Superhero - Lauv
Love No More - Loud Luxury, anders
One Shot - Mabel
Cigarettes - Tash Sultana
Better - Tess Henley
Bee-Sting - The Wombats

New Music Fridays, August 20th, 2018

Well, this turned out to be a nice week for new music.  Of  course, the biggest news was the release of Ariana Grande's Sweetener, but none of the new songs on the album match the intensity of its' first three singles.  And so you won't find any of them in this week's spotlight, but you will see and hear new stuff from Janet Jackson, Calvin Harris with Sam Smith, and other great new tunes to whet your appetite.  So without further adieu, here we go...

Promises - Calvin Harris, Sam Smith

One of the most interesting new music tracks of the week comes from Calvin Harris, featuring the beautiful voice of Sam Smith on vocals.  Promises is Smith's first foray into dance music since guesting on Disclosure's 2013 Latch, and to me this one is way easier to get into.  I usually shy away from Smith, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of ballads, but this one is oh so good.  Check out Promises...

All I Am - Jess Glynne

I love the sound of Jess Glynne's voice and I almost always love the inspirational/fee-good vibe to her songs, and this new one's got both.  Check out All I Am...

How Does It Feel - M22

If you love a big dance song with strong female vocals, then this is a song for you.  British dance music duo has come up with a big one featuring the powerful vocals of one Miss Hayley May.  Great vibe on this one...check it out...

Made For Now - Janet Jackson, Daddy Yankee

Janet Jackson is back in a big way with a somewhat surprising and pleasing new single (possible album in the works??!!!).  This one's got the feel of a vintage Janet tune, happy and catchy, and the addition of Daddy Yankee into the fold will surely expand the listening base of this one.  The two debuted the tune on Jimmy Fallon the other night, but there is also a video.  Check out Made For Now...

Exit (The Wrong Way) - Marsheaux

Ooh, I love this one.  It's by Greek synth-pop duo Marsheaux and it's got the feel of an 80's synth-heavy club jam.  Love, love, love!  Check out Exit (The Wrong Way)...

Here are this week's honorable mentions...

Happier - Marshmello, Bastille
Real Friends - Camila Cabello, Swae Lee
Goodbyes - The Knocks, Method Man
Sideways - Uffie

Song of the Day - Karma - Years & Years

Image result for karma years and years

I never heard of the British trio known as Years & Years before, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.  This song was one I had bookmarked during research for New Music Fridays a few weeks ago and then it slowly crept into my consciousness.  The music in the song sounds like it may be sampling Lauryn Hill's Everything Is Everything, yet the vocals are a whole other vibe.  Very cool song and I will be checking out more of this group in the future.  In the meantime, here's Karma...

New Music Fridays, August 10th, 2018

Hello and welcome once again to John's World's New Music Fridays, a weekly look at the best new music releases of the week.  Though it was a relatively slow week, I did manage to find four tasty morsels for your listening pleasure.  Check em out...

Thunderclouds - Sia, Diplo, Labrinth, LSD

There is a new supergroup in town known as LSD, Labrinth, Sia and Diplo, and I am loving what I am hearing!  I posted their first song together, Genius, and that one slowly creeped into my inner music psyche as I know this one will.  Check out the funky yet sultry Thunderclouds...

Dear Sense - Louis the Child, MAX

I love Louis the Child and I am really loving this easy-to-learn jam.  Check out Dear Sense...

Shame - Elle King

Who remembers Elle King, that sassy songstress that kinda reminds me of Meghan Trainor, only with slightly more sass?  Yeah, she hit it big about four years ago with the fun Ex's and Oh's, and now she's all set to debut her second album with this equally fun and funky one.  Check out Shame...

New Friends - Maty Noyes

I've loved young singer Maty Noyes ever since she did vocals on Kygo's Stay, and every time she comes out with something new, I pay attention.  This new one is very hot!  Check out New Friends...

As always, here are some honorable mentions worth checking out as well.  Thanks for checking in and stay tuned for next week's New Music Fridays...

Underwater - RUFUS DU SOL
Freak Me - Ciara, Tekno
Animal - Troye Sivan
FEVER - Elly Duhe
Do You Think About Me - Captain Cuts, Zookeper, Georgia Ku
Bad Boy - Red Velvet
Capricorn - Elderbrook

New Music Fridays, August 3rd, 2013 - New Robyn & More!

After almost two full weeks in Europe, I am back and rejuvenated, and I came back to a great time for new music.  The purest joy for me came earlier this week when the news broke of Robyn releasing a brand new song.  It is really her very first solo effort since the monumental Body Talk series back in 2010, and that makes this week's new music one of the most exciting.  Of course, Robyn is not the only thing to get excited about this week.  Check out some hot new tracks...

Missing U - Robyn

Yes, Robyn is back, and from the sounds of it she hasn't skipped a beat.  This one sounds like an appropriate continuation of Body Talk, beautifully arranged and oh so good, albeit seven years later.  Check out the awesome Missing U...

Tie Me Down - Gryffin, Elley Duhe

Now here's a nice dance/pop tune that is very pleasing to the ears.  NYC-based deejay/producer Gryffin has a winner on his hands with this one.  Check out Tie Me Down...

Heaven To Me - Don Diablo, Alex Clare

What sparked my interest in this song was the inclusion of Alex Clare.  Now I don't know much about the British singer/songwriter, but his 2011 song Too Close is among my all time favorites.  He's got a great voice and it works extremely well on this hot dance number with a great message.  Check out the heavenly Heaven To Me on Billboard

Patrona - Lao Ra

Now I don't normally include Latin music in these posts, but Columbian singer Lao Ra's new song Patrona, which loosely means "woman boss" is infectious and very danceable.  Check out Patrona...

With U - Tujamo, Karen Harding

From the very first beats to this song, you're hooked!  If it weren't for Robyn, this would be my pick for the hottest track of the week.  Check out the slamming beats and powerful vocals on With U...

I have to say that after two weeks of not exploring new music, it's good to be back in the mix.  Of course, the five songs spotlighted here aren't the only new music worthy of checking out.  Here are some honorable mentions from this week's crop of new tracks...

High on Life - Martin Garrix, Bonn
Too Much - ZAYN, Timbaland
Glow - Digitalism
United - Armin Van Buuren, Vini Vici, Alok, Zafrir
One last Song - Gorgon City, JP Cooper, Yungen
Kong - Neneh Cherry
Walk Thru Fire - Vicetone, Meron Ryan
Running After You - Riley Clemmons

New Music Fridays, July 13th, 2010

This will be the last New Music Fridays for a couple of weeks as I jet off to Switzerland for a much needed vacation.  Though there weren't many songs I bookmarked for the week, the ones I did are all fantastic, so check em out...

Satisfied - Galantis, Max

I am loving Swedish electronic dance masters Galantis more and more with every new release they make, and this week they've put out two new songs, Mama Look At Me Now, and this one, a funky, easily likable neo-discoish dance jam.  Satisfied is a perfect summer jam, so check it out...

Only Love - Mary J. Blige

In the week's nicest surprise, Mary J. Blige is back with a new song and she sounds as good as ever.  Only Love is an up tempo, funky dance gem and I am loving it!  Check it out...

Sun In Our Eyes - MO, Diplo

Danish singer MO, whose voice is perfect for pop/dance music, has released a new song together with superstar deejay/producer Diplo and it is a winner! The tune is from the singer's upcoming sophomore album due out in October.  Check out Sun In Our Eyes...

Talk Later - The Vamps

The Vamps have just released their third album, Night and Day, and the newest single is like much of what they do, a pleasant pop/rock tune that's catchy and very likable.  Check out Talk Later...

Erase - FRND, Lights

Andrew Goldstein, operating under the pseudonym FRND, has reworked a previous recording of his with the help of singer Lights, and the results are sublime!  Check out the easy breezy Erase...

As always, here are some honorable mentions for you to check out as well...

Como - Kim Viera, Daddy Yankee
Monophobia - deadmau5, Rob Swire
Maradona Riddim - DJ Snake, Niniola
3A.M. - Baauer, AJ Tracey, Jae Stephens

New Music Fridays, July 6th, 2018 - Nice Selections For Your Week

This was a nice, easy week for trying out new music.  This week's selections are varied and all good, so check it out...

Barcelona - Max George

Former The Wanted member Max George has finally broken out on his own with his very first solo single and it is a winner!  The Wanted was a boy band that did not last long enough and hearing George on vocals on this song hearkens back to the feel good Glad You Came.  Check out Barcelona...

Soulmate - Justin Timberlake

Anytime Justin Timberlake puts out something new, it's always newsworthy, and this new summer jam is very easy breezy.  Check out Soulmate...

Me, Myself & I - Blonde, Bryn Christopher

Now here's a hot new summer anthem by Blonde, with a little help from Bryn Christopher.  Really nice!  Check out Me, Myself & I...

Lava Lamps - Maty Noyes, Beekwilder

I've always loved everything singer Maty Noyes has done, and this one I think is my new favorite.  This funky throwback has a vintage feel to it, yet very finger-snapping and well...funky!  Check out Lava Lamps...

High Horse - Kacey Musgraves, Jeremy Larson

Country singer Kacey Musgraves opened up for Harry Styles at MSG a couple of weeks ago and although I am definitely not a country music fan, I enjoyed her set.  Well, now that I see she's put out a new song, I checked it out and guess what?  I liked it.  Here's High Horse...

As usual, there are several other new tunes that are mention-worthy, and so here are this week's honorable mentions...

What Are We Doing - Joakim Lundell
Cocoon - Erick Morillo, Andrew Cole, Kylee Katch
Friends - Raye
Doesn't Matter - Christine & The Queens
Karma - Years & Years
Better - SG Lewis, Clairo
Finally Free - Niall Horan
Metal - Poppy
Parfume - Eli & Fur

New Music Fridays, June 29th, 2018 - A Nice Variety of New Music

This has been an oddly good week in new music, though at first listen, I wasn't crazy about any of the tunes spotlighted here.  The ones I chose are varied in genre, but all pretty damned good, so check out this week's offerings...

Don't Matter to Me - Drake, Michael Jackson

Undoubtedly the biggest new music story of the week was the dropping of Drake's brand new double album, Scorpion.  Not a huge Drake fan here, but there are definitely some tunes in his catalog that I do love, and they all tend to be more on the R&B side, like this whopper of a surprise.  Apparently, the Canadian rapper/singer delved into some of Michael Jackson's later work and used the King of Pop's vocals withing the overall construction of this song.  Pitchfork has an incredibly amazing piece on this.  Check out a sound-clip of Don't Matter to Me...

Lovers - LoKii, REMMI

Here's a sweet, catchy tune by dance artists LoKii and REMMI.  Check out Lovers...

Bad Love - Sean Paul, Ellie Goulding

It's been a long time since we've heard anything from Ellie Goulding, but now she's back with a funky new reggae-tinged dance track featuring none other than Sean Paul.  Check out Bad Love...

Everybody Needs a Kiss - Benny Benassi, Sofi Tukker

Here's a brand new collaboration between Italian producer Benny Benassi and the hot hot Sofi Tukker.  This one, like virtually anything ST touches, is golden.  Check out Everybody Needs a Kiss...

Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You - Sheryl Crow, Annie Clark

Wow!  I haven't paid virtually any attention to Sheryl Crow in years, but this new collaboration with fellow female guitarist extraordinaire Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, is wicked good!  The song is a political rant against climate change deniers and you've just got to hear it.  Here's Wouldn't Wanna Be Like You...

I think I'm going to skip any honorable mentions this week.  Nothing really particularly stands out to not here, but you can always check out the New Music Fridays playlist on Spotify.

New Music Fridays, June 22nd, 2018 - New Hot Summer Dance Jams

This was a rare week in new music, as all five of the songs I've chosen are great dance tunes that'll surely be played out by me all summer long.  If you like dance music, check them out...

Self Control - Bebe Rexha

Singer Bebe Rexha just came out with her first solo album, Expectations, and it's chock full of pop deliciousness, including this one, the record's third single.  Check out Self Control...

Only You - Cheat Codes, Lil Mix

Two of my favorite dance artists have gotten together to make this easy-breezy summer jam.  Check out Only You...

I Told You - Nora Van Elken

Now this is exactly the type of song I love...chill, dance, strong female vocals...mwah!  I actually added this one twice to my Current folder just so I wouldn't miss it for this posting.  Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere on video, audio, nothing.  Check it out on iTunes or Spotify...it'll be worth your time!

Rooftops - Marshmello

I don't necessarily love everything Marshmello does, but when he does it good, I love it, and Rooftops is good!  Check it out...

Ring Ring - Jax Jones, Mabel, Rich the Kid

Capping off a rare week of several nice dance tunes is another EDM favorite, Jax Jones with another very smooth, likable dance track.  Check out the funky Ring Ring...

New Music Fridays, June 15th, 2018 - Plenty of Great Stuff!

I knew within the first half-hour or so during my discovery of New Music Fridays on Spotify that this was going to be a special week.  There are so many great tunes in this week's crop of new music that I could have highlighted twenty of them.  Alas, most of the ones I really liked are indeed found within, either in music form or as an honorable mention.  Man this week's going to give me long periods of music pleasure!  Check it out...

Dance to This - Troye Sivan, Ariana Grande

One of the most exciting new tunes of the week comes in the form of a brand new collaboration by two of today's hottest stars, Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande.  With pulsating rhythms and soft, sensual vocals, this one's already on fire.  Check out Dance to This...

Bed - Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande appears as a vocalist on not one, but two new tunes by other artists this week, and both tunes are kind of on the softer side of things.  This one, from Minaj's upcoming Queen, is steamy and from the looks of it, the video is gonna be too.  Check out Bed...

Growing Pains - Alessia Cara

This new song by talented young Alessia Cara is our first new taste of what's to come from the singer's sophomore album, and by the sounds of it, it's going to be good. Check out Growing Pains...

I'm a Mess - Bebe Rexha

Brooklyn born singer Bebe Rexha has got a new tune out and it's drawing comparisons to Meredith Brooks' I'm a Bitch.  Check out the similarities between the songs on Billboard, and in the meantime check out I'm a Mess...

Let Me Live - Rudimental, Anne-Marie, Major Lazer, Mr. Eazi

This star-studded collaboration by Rudimental and Major Lazer has got a sweet, reggae-tinged sound and with Anne-Marie's vocals, this one's outta the park.  Check out Let Me Live...

Maria - Christina Aguilera

By far the best song I've heard so far from Christina's new record is this soulful piece of joy.  Check out the beautiful Maria...

Just My Type - The Vamps

It's really a shame that Brit band The Vamps don't get more attention here in the States.  They've got a pop sensibility that's really always spot on, with songs that are always catchy, always fun, including this new track.  Check out a live performance of Just My Type...

Blurry Eyes - Hotel Garuda, RUNN

Here's yet another song I couldn't resist spotlighting here.  You know I love dance music and this one is funky!  Check out Blurry Eyes...

As promised, here are plenty of other new tunes for you to check out.  They're all stellar in their own way.

I tell ya, this is certainly a labor of love for me.  I actually had a little time over the weekend to get this out, but once again, pc problems put the kibosh on that.  Anyway, this was a unique week of new music, with quality tunes in a wide variety of genres.  Check out this week's new tunes...

Almost Love - Sabrina Carpenter

Young actress turned singer Sabrina Carpenter is back with a lead single to her third studio album, Singular, due out in the winter.  Almost Love is a funky, dance pop jam that's very easy on the ears.  Check it out...

Younger - Ruel

Until I heard this tender ballad, I'd never even heard of Australian singer Ruel.  Well, this song is so good, think Shawn Mendes, this talented young man will be on my radar for the foreseeable future.  Check out the beautiful Younger...

Activate - Cheat Codes

LA-based EDM trio Cheat Codes returns with a hip hop-infused house jam that's made for dance floors everywhere.  Check out Activate...

Lost My Mind - Lily Allen

Well one of my favorite singers from across The Pond is back with a brand new album and a brand new video to go with its lead single.  Yes, Lily Allen is back with a long-awaited follow-up to 2014's Sheezus and the entire record, and especially this song, reflects a pained side of the singer after a tough, tough breakup.  Check out Lost My Mind...

Nights Like These - Ne Yo, Romeo Santos

R&B singer Ne-Yo's got a brand new album out and this accompanying single, an acoustic duet with Aventura singer Romeo Santos.  It's the best thing I've heard from the singer in awhile and I'm definitely going to check out Good Man.  Here's Nights Like These...
