Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo was recently offered some previously laid vocals of Whitney Houston singing Steve WInwood's Higher Love by the singer's estate and he ran with it. Set to a typically Kygo-esque dance track, the vocals make for a respectable version of the original classic and have earned Houston her very first posthumous hit record. Check it out...

New Music Fridays, March 16th, 2018
Hello and welcome once again to New Music Fridays, even though it's Monday, lol. I bookmarked a lot of songs this week, and it was hard to cram it down to just five, but here goes...
Okay, well any new Chainsmokers' tune will almost always get attention from me. They've been that high on my list as long as they've been around. This time, though, I'm not a huge fan. The boys newest track picks up on the same theme as their last two singles, Sick Boy and You Owe Me...no romantic happiness, no sweetness, just some more self-deprecating whining. The only bright spot is that this one does carry a twinge of EDM. Check it out and see...
Freaky Friday - Lil Dicky, Chris Brown
I have to admit that I never heard of Lil Dicky before. Apparently he's a 30 year old comedian/rapper and he just put out his first song in over three years with R&B bad boy Chris Brown...and I love it! The song takes its' name from the famous movie and the vid for the tune shows the two artists switching spots. Pretty good! Oh, and check out some of the cameos, too! Check out Freaky Friday...
Done For Me - Charlie Puth, Kehlani
Charlie Puth follows up his highly successful, and funky, How Long with a nice collaboration featuring the likes of Oakland-based songstress Kehlani. This one's as funky as the former, and it's full of pop smoothness, as well. Check out Done For Me...
Answerphone - Banx & Ranx, Ella Eyre, Yxng Bane
Though there are some big names in this week's new music tracks, they aren't necessarily the best of the best. Banx & Ranx's newest is nothing but a hip shakin' slice of pure dance pleasure. Check out Answerphone...
Remind Me to Forget - Kygo, Miguel
Oh, two of my favorite artists together on one track! R&B singer Miguel's voice lends itself wonderfully to Kygo's beats. Awesome!
All in all, this was a really nice week in new music, not only the ones featured here, but for these honorable mentions, as well:
Alone - Halsey, Big Sean
Let It Be - Hayley Kyoko
Over You - Kasbo, Frida Sundemo
Alien - Sabrina Carpenter, Jonas Blue
Be Like You - Whethan, Broods
Over My Head - Echosmith
Strawberries & Cigarettes - Troye Sivan

New Music Fridays, November 3rd, 2017 - The Week's Hottest New Tracks
Hello and welcome to John's Music World's New Music Fridays. As you all know, my favorite genre of music, hands down, is dance music and there's a lot of new beats that hit the airwaves this week. Check out the week's hottest new tracks...
Riding Shotgun - Kygo, feat. Oliver Nelson & Bonnie Mckee
Norwegian deejay/producer has just released his newest album, Kids In Love, and just ahead of it came this sweet tune that is very radio friendly. Check out Riding Shotgun...
Dirty Sexy Money - David Guetta & Afrojack, featuring Charli XCX and French Montana
Superstar deejay/producer David Guetta is back with a really nice tune that hearkens back to some of the great tracks from his One Love and Nothing But the Beat records. This time, Guetta is helped out by fellow producer Afrojack (...and some uncredited production from Skrillex.) and vocalists Charli XCX and French Montana, and the result is some good old-fashioned dance floor filler. Check out Dirty Sexy Money...
Told You So - Miguel
R&B singer Miguel has been busy of late, dropping songs from his forthcoming album War & Leisure, and this, his latest, is a funky jam that brings to mind such funk music greats as Prince and Bruno Mars. Check out the delightful Told You So...
raingurl - yaeji
I was instantly mesmerized by the hypnotic house beats of this late night jam. The track is by Brooklyn-based singer yaeji, who Pitchfork calls "House Music's Most Exciting New Voice." Check out raingurl and find out why...
Something Bout Our Love - JONES
British singer/songwriter JONES has released one of my favorite tunes of the week. Something Bout Our Love is a radio friendly tune that's very, very catchy. Check it out...
Instruction - Jax Jones, feat. Demi Lovato, Stefflon Don, Mr. Eazi
This week has seen some really good dance music and this one is funky all the way through. With big beats, sexy vocals and even a little bit of island flavor, this one's definitely a winner! Check out Instruction...
So yeah, it's been a great week for new music with these selections, but there's more. Check out these honorable mentions and as always, stay tuned for next week's New Music Fridays.
You and Me - Shallou
Santa's Coming for Us - Sia
Soon - Emeli Sandé, David East

New Music Fridays, October 27th, 2017 - The Week's Hottest New Tunes
Hello and welcome once again to New Music Fridays, where I share some of the best new music of the current week. We've got several notable tracks to cover this week, so let's get started...
Wolves - Selena Gomez, with Marshmello
Our first song this week comes from Selena Gomez, in collaboration with DJ Marshmello. The track has got a melancholic feel to it, with themes of lost love, though the chorus is musically uplifting. Billboard reports that Gomez' fans might have been expecting this sort of tune after the star revealed that she is battling the disease lupus, which means wolf in Spanish. Check out Wolves...
Heat - Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson has still got it! Her latest release from her freshly minted Meaning of Life album is an energizing blast of soul. Check out the official audio of Heat...
When I Was Young - MO
Okay, so here's one that I had a hard time finding out much about, but it is hella good and hella catchy. It's got a nice, vintage Euro feel to it, though several Internet searches turned up that the tune originates in India. Who knows? I still love it! Check out When I Was Young...
Never Let You Go - Kygo, with John Newman
You might remember British singer John Newman from his 2015 hit Good Things. Well now the soulful crooner lends his powerful pipes to Kygo's newest gem, Check out Never Let You Go...
Shivers - Rachel Platten
Singer Rachel Platten has got a real winner here with this neo-discoish Shivers. The track is immediately likable and will bring you back to the dance floor again and again. Love this one! Check out Shivers...
Por Favor - Pitbull, with Fifth Harmony
There was a time when it seemed as if Pitbull had been putting out hits constantly, but really I haven't heard anything from him in awhile, until now. This week the Miami-based rapper debuted a rhythmic Spanish-English jam with the ladies of Fifth Harmony. Check it out right here...
One More Light (Chester Forever Remix) - Linkin Park, Steve Aoki
I never would have imagined myself even mentioning rockers Linkin Park on this blog, but this hot remix of a beautiful ballad is absolutely the bomb. Shout out to deejay Steve Aoki for paying homage to fallen member Chester Bennington! Check out One More Light...
Well, I think I've given you all new music lovers something to whet your appetite from this week's crop of new music. Stay tuned for more New Music Fridays next week and in the meantime, check out some honoable mentions...
I Miss You - Clean Bandit, featuring Julia Michaels
Gave Your Love Away - Majid Jordan

New Music Fridays, October 20th, 2017 - New Music This Week
Hello and welcome once again to John's Music World's New Music Fridays. There's lots of great new music to check out this week, so let's get right down to business...
Okay, so Taylor Swift has been trickling out new songs in anticipation of her newest album, Reputation, and this, the third such track is a light-hearted, catchy pop tune that's sure to keep her fans happy until the album's November 10th release. Check out Gorgeous...
Kids in Love - Kygo & The Night Game
Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo's newest record is already being compared to U2, Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire, and I'm going to add a little of The Who's Baba O'Riley into the mix. This one is a nice power ballad with a lot of energy and well worth a listen. Check out the hella cool Kids In Love...
Bedroom Floor - Liam Payne
The One Direction solo projects come out strong this week with a new album by Niall Horan and this new single by Liam Payne. Bedroom Floor is the closest thing to a One Direction song that I've heard so far, only with more of an adult theme. That being said, the tune is catchy and sure to be favorited by many fans of the One Direction phenomenon. Check out Bedroom Floor...
Anywhere - Rita Ora
Rita Ora is a name you're sure to be hearing more of as time goes on. I first discovered her on the wonderfully melodic Your Song and then again on Avicii's Lonely Together. Ora released a preview, Anywhere, from her debut album yesterday, accompanied by a fun video set in New York City. The song is nice, catchy and very easy on the ears. Check out Anywhere...
Seeing Blind - Niall Horan, with Maren Morris
Horan's recently released debut solo album, Flicker, also comes with an accompanying single. The beautiful ballad is a duet with country singer Maren Morris and you can check out the sweet Seeing Blind on iTunes or Spotify.
Back in Your Head - Tegan and Sara, Ryan Adams
From a new tribute album of the tenth anniversary of Tegan and Sara's monumental Cons album comes a hard rocking Ryan Adams cover that's too good to be missed. Check out Back In Your Head...
Good Advice - Fever High, Jeff Goldblum
My pick for funkiest tune of the week comes from a Brooklyn-based duo who call themselves Fever High. These gals have come up with a retro-sounding electro-pop single that'll be sure to have you bopping your head to the beat. Their voices blend perfectly together as they work their way through this jam, and actor Jeff Goldblum delivers a strange, but kinda cool monologue somewhere in there. Check out Good Advice on Soundcloud.
Though these new music tracks did not make my top choices for the week, please take note of these very worthy honorable mentions...
Meaning of Life - Kelly Clarkson
High Rollin' - Jaira Burns
Home - Nick Jonas

It's such a beautiful day outside that I wanted to post one of the most beautiful songs of the summer. Kygo's It Ain't Me has it all, some nice, feel-good music, great vocals and a killer hook. Check it out...

Song of the Day - First Time - Kygo, feat. Ellie Goulding

Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo is on fire lately. Quick on the heels of his current top ten hit, It Ain't Me, with Selena Gomez comes a brand new lovely tune with British songstress Ellie Goulding. Love this one! Check it out...

Song of the Day - London - Maty Noyes

In exactly two weeks from today, I will be flying to London for the first time in my life. I was planning on saving this song for just before my trip, but in light of what happened yesterday, I thought it more appropriate to post it today. Admittedly, what happened in London yesterday has me somewhat apprehensive about this trip that's been long in the making, but I need to approach this like I approach anything else in my life. That is, I can't go around life being scared to live, and neither should anyone else, Should this trip be cancelled because of the attack yesterday, I wouldn't be crushed, but if it is not (its a school trip), I will go!
I first came across singer Maty Noyes on Kygo's wonderful Stay. I love that song and I love her voice. So when I saw that she had come out with a song on her own, I checked it out...and I love this one, too! So please check out the catchy, dramatic, London...

Song of the Day - It AIn't Me - Kygo, with Selena Gomez

Here's a hot new tune for your Hump Day, this first day of March. It's Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo in a much anticipated collaboration with one Selena Gomez, who is sounding very mature in this sweet, melodic track. Check out It Ain't Me...

Song of the Day - Stay - Kygo, feat. Maty Noyes
Thought I could leave you cause I felt my heart numbing
It hits so deep, I closed my eyes and I just took off running
I turned around and saw the look on your face
So I stayed, stayed

Here's a particular favorite of mine from Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo. The song's got a melancholy, yet dance vibe to it, and Maty Nobes' voice carries the lyrics oh so tenderly. Check out Stay...

Song of the Day - Stole the Show - Kygo, featuring Parson James

Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo is one of my favorite artists of the genre, and here's an early hit of his which can be found on his debut album Cloud Nine. I absolutely love the voice of Parson James on the record and I love the spaceman in the video, too! Check it out...

Song of the Day - Raging - Kygo, featuring Kodaline

Here's another great new tune from Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo. The last tune of his I posted, Fragile, was a gem and at the time listed as a non-album single, but in the weeks since we now know that Cloud Nine, his first full studio album, will be released on May 13th. This track is as beautifully produced as the last one and is definitely worthy of a listen or two, or three, or four...

Song of the Day - Fragile - Kygo, featuring Labrinth
Crazy to think that a man cannot hurt
Love takes its toll every time it don't work, yeah
One door closes and another opens
But it's hard to let go when your heart's broken
I give you my trust, can you give me your word?

Come take my heart of glass
And give me your love
I hope you'll still be there
To pick the pieces up
Cause baby I'm fragile, fragile, fragile
Cause baby I'm fragile, fragile, fragile
Oh man, what a treat these past couple of weeks have been! After seemingly endless months of boring, unoriginal music, suddenly a bounty of great great new stuff is coming along and it's all from new artists who I hope find success with these songs. The tracks I've posted in the past few days are unprecedented in their value to me as a music lover, and I find myself listening to all of them (and a couple more that will be forthcoming!) over and over and over. Case in point: today's gem...
Norwegian deejay/songwriter/producer has been on my radar screen, but until now not as a favorite artist, but one who've I've jammed to over the past year or so. This one, one of his newest, features a brilliant, soulful vocalist named Labrinth, and the tune is as soulful as it is beautiful. Quality stuff here! Check out Fragile...

Song of the Day - Stay - Kygo, featuring Maty Noyes
Here's a sweet, new, tropical house jam by Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo. Singer Maty Noyes' vocals are as sweet as the tune and if you click play below you just may find a new song to love...

Song of the Day - Firestone - Kygo, featuring Conrad
Good morning and Happy Hump Day! Here's a nice, chill tune for your Wednesday. It's a song I recently discovered on Spotify and it's by Norwegian dance artist Kygo. Though it's officially labeled a 'dance' song, to me it's more of a nice loungey, tropical ballad and it's pretty good at that. Check out Firestone...
