New Music Fridays, May 3rd, 2018 - New Stuff From X-Tina, Shawn Mendes, Troye Sivan and More

Where last week's New Music Fridays was jam packed with great new stuff from relatively new artists, we find new gems from tried and true artists this week, including the return of Christina Aguilera, some youthful infusion from Shawn Mendes, Khalid and Troye Sivan, and much much more.  Check it out...

Youth - Shawn Mendes, Khalid

Shawn Mendes has an eponymous album, his third, coming out later this month and the songs he's been putting out thus far have shown a natural progression towards pop music perfection.  Such is the case with his newest, a collaboration with fellow crooner Khalid.  The song features dueling vocals blended perfectly together in what just may become one of the hottest hits of the year.  Check out Youth...

The Way I Am - Charlie Puth

Charlie Puth keeps his string of hot releases going with this pleasingly upbeat, yet introspective tune.  Check out The Way I Am...

I'll Be There - Jess Glynne

I am loving Jess Glynne.  Who would have thought that she'd come back from her guest vocal on Clean Bandit's monumental Rather Be right to her own solo debut and the great success of Hold My Hand?  Well, with a spot on Rudimental's These Days, the British singer has surely established herself as a force in the music world.  Now Glynne is back with yet another inspirational gem that's sure to be on my playlist for some time to come.  Check out I'll Be There...

Accelerate - Christina Aguilera, with Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz

One of the most talked-about songs of the week is Christina Aguilera's first new song in five years.  Earlier in the week, Ms. X-Tina announced the release of her sixth studio album, Liberation, coming out in June, and the buzz among her fans, including me, is well, we're excited.  The new song features rappers Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz and is a quick-moving, rap-infused song that I'm thinking I need to listen to more to get into.  By the way, the tune is also reportedly produced by Kanye West, in case you might be wondering.  Check out Variety for more on the album and check out Accelerate right here...

Bloom - Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan adds to three the number of pre-released songs ahead of his next studio album.  Whereas the somber reflection of The Good Side hearkens to reflections from a past life, Bloom continues where My My My left off, finding Sivan in a blissful place in his life, singing about life and love and well, just being happy.  Check out the cool lyric video for Bloom here...

Well I could seriously go on and on and on.  Lots of honorable mentions here, even the return of Guns n Roses, which I actually thought about highlighting.  Check out some more really good stuff...

Move to Miami - Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull
Genius - Sia, Diplo, Labrinth
Jump - Julia Michaels, Trippie Redd
Shadow of Your Love - Guns N Roses
Hunger - Florence + the Machine
Run Wild - Thutmose, NoMBe
Hold On Tight - R3HAB, Conor Maynard
Energy - Jean Deaux, ROMderful
MJ - Now Now
So Rude - ORKID

New Music Fridays, March 16th, 2018

Hello and welcome once again to New Music Fridays, even though it's Monday, lol.  I bookmarked a lot of songs this week, and it was hard to cram it down to just five, but here goes...

Everybody Hates Me - The Chainsmokers

Okay, well any new Chainsmokers' tune will almost always get attention from me.  They've been that high on my list as long as they've been around.  This time, though, I'm not a huge fan.  The boys newest track picks up on the same theme as their last two singles, Sick Boy and You Owe Me...no romantic happiness, no sweetness, just some more self-deprecating whining.  The only bright spot is that this one does carry a twinge of EDM.  Check it out and see...

Freaky Friday - Lil Dicky, Chris Brown

I have to admit that I never heard of Lil Dicky before.  Apparently he's a 30 year old comedian/rapper and he just put out his first song in over three years with R&B bad boy Chris Brown...and I love it!  The song takes its' name from the famous movie and the vid for the tune shows the two artists switching spots.  Pretty good!  Oh, and check out some of the cameos, too!  Check out Freaky Friday...

Done For Me - Charlie Puth, Kehlani

Charlie Puth follows up his highly successful, and funky, How Long with a nice collaboration featuring the likes of Oakland-based songstress Kehlani.  This one's as funky as the former, and it's full of pop smoothness, as well.  Check out Done For Me...

Answerphone - Banx & Ranx, Ella Eyre, Yxng Bane

Though there are some big names in this week's new music tracks, they aren't necessarily the best of the best.  Banx & Ranx's newest is nothing but a hip shakin' slice of pure dance pleasure.  Check out Answerphone...

Remind Me to Forget - Kygo, Miguel

Oh, two of my favorite artists together on one track!  R&B singer Miguel's voice lends itself wonderfully to Kygo's beats.  Awesome!

All in all, this was a really nice week in new music, not only the ones featured here, but for these honorable mentions, as well:

Alone - Halsey, Big Sean
Let It Be - Hayley Kyoko
Over You - Kasbo, Frida Sundemo
Alien - Sabrina Carpenter, Jonas Blue
Be Like You - Whethan, Broods
Over My Head - Echosmith
Strawberries & Cigarettes - Troye Sivan

New Music Fridays, October 6th, 2017 - Five Fresh New Tracks For You

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of New Music Fridays for October 6th, 2017.  Once again, this has not been a major week for new music releases, but of course there's always something to catch onto.  Check out this week's offerings...

How Long - Charlie Puth

Talented singer/songwriter Charlie Puth is not known for up tempo stuff, but his newest track, How Long, is a downright funky tune that I liked on first listen...a lot!  The song is from his upcoming sophomore album, Voice Notes, and my interest is officially piqued.  Who knows, I just may end up becoming a fan.  Check out How Long...

Pray - Sam Smith

Grammy Award-winning Brit singer/songwriter Sam Smith continues his comeback with another beautifully written and performed ballad that shows off his angelic voice.  Check out Smith performing Pray on SNL...

Help Me Out - Maroon 5, with Julia Michaels

Maroon 5 just released another single from their upcoming set, Red Pill Blues, and it's a pretty darned good song.  Featuring Julia Michaels, the down tempo tune is a little bit ska and very likeable.  Check out Help Me Out...

Whatever You Want - P!nk

This upcoming week is a big one for P!nk, and she just teased us with another tune from her new album, beautiful Trauma, the third such song from the new release.  Of the three (including What About Us and the title cut), Whatever You Want is much more acoustic, a trademark type of song from the talented singer/songwriter.  I'm not sure how memorable this ballad will be among the tracks on the new set.  It's not as immediately catchy as the previous two, but still, I am sure it will grow on me.  Check out Whatever You Want...

Right to It - Louis the Child, feat. Ashe

Our last entry this week is a summery tune with light-hearted vocals by guest vocalist Ashe and a nice, reggae-tinged back beat.  A very nice jam.  heck out Right to It...

Okay, so there you have it, five new, nice tunes to check out.  I hope you've enjoyed this week's selections.  Stay tuned for more new music on New Music Fridays, and of course, stay tuned to John's Music World for the Countdown to beautiful Trauma all week long.
