John's Music World's Top 50 Pop Songs of 2017

Hello and welcome to John's Music World's annual list of the best of pop songs for the year 2017.  I promise you that my list is completely different from any other list you will see because it's all based on my own musical taste, which I can attest is usually spot on.  Of course many of the tunes on this list have been spotlighted in my daily Song of the Day posts, but some have not.  In any case, they all made their mark in the year 2017 in one way of another, so check it out...

#50 - Slow Hands - Niall Horan

The year 2017 was a year for the boys of One Direction to branch out on their own and show us what they've got as solo artists.  All five of the guys, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan all released new music this year, to varied success both commercially and musically.  Horan's album, Flicker,  was released in October and got mostly favorable reviews.  To me, the album's got an American country flavor to it, as you can see on Slow Hands, the album's second single...

#49 - Glorious - Macklemore, feat. Skylar Grey

Seattle rapper Macklemore has really come into his own in 2017.  Having released a solo album, Gemini, he's cemented his type of music...fun, funky and oftentimes inspirational.  The first single on the album fits the bill in all of these ways.  Check out Glorious on YouTube.

#48 - Personal - The Vamps, Maggie Lindemann

I'm so happy to have discovered the U.K. band The Vamps this year.  After falling in love with theirs and Connor Maynard's mash-up of Ed Sheeran's Shape of You, I took notice and discovered that these guys make some pretty darned good music on their own.  I'm actually surprised that they haven't made too much of a splash here in the States...yet.  One of their latest, featuring singer Maggie Lindemann, is pop music at it's best.  Check out the video for Personal right here.

#47 - Back To You - Louis Tomlinson, feat. Bebe Rexha, Digital Farm Animals

Louis Tomlinson's second solo single features Albanian singer Bebe Rexha and though it took a little while to grow on me, grow on me it did.  Check out Back to You.

#46 - Crybaby - Paloma Faith

I'd never really had British singer Paloma Faith on my radar, though I had heard of her before the release of this beautiful, catchy single.  Definitely one of my favorite songs of the year.  Check out Crybaby...

#45 - Intrigued - Nico & Vinz

Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz don't make a lot of hits, but when they do, they are so good.  Intrigued was their latest entry for 2017 to hit my musical consciousness and it is so dramatic.  Check it out on John's Music World.

#44 - Something to Hold On To - Emily Warren

This beautiful and tender ballad by singer/songwriter Emily Warren never gained much traction, but it is very deserving of attention.  Check out my Song of the Day post for Something to Hold On To from August.

#43 - What Lovers Do - Maroon 5, SZA

Now I've never been a huge fan of Maroon 5, but their latest album, Red Pill Blues, has me singing a different tune.  What Lovers Do, the first single off the record, is the also the first of two Maroon 5 songs on this countdown.  Such a happy, ear-pleasing tune.  Check it out...

#42 - How Long - Charlie Puth

The very talented singer/songwriter Charlie Puth put out what I feel is his best song as a solo artist.  Check out the catchy How Long on John's Music World.

Image result for wolves selena gomez

#41 - Wolves - Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez' latest release is a very personal and uplifting tune that's worthy of a place on this countdown.  Check out Wolves on John's Music World.

#40 - Symphony - Clean Bandit, feat. Zara Larsson

Zara Larsson is the biggest new thing to come out of Sweden.  With several hit singles coming off her first international album, So Good, she's become one to watch in the months and years ahead. This collaboration with British production group Clean Bandit is simply sweet!  Check out Symphony...

#39 - Castle On the Hill - Ed Sheeran

The year 2017 brought Ed Sheeran into the stratosphere, and here's the second monster single from his smash third album, Divide.  Check out Castle On the Hill.

Image result for sit next to me foster the people

#38 - Sit Next to Me - Foster the People

Foster the People revealed a brand new sound in 2017 and the results were stellar.   Check out #38 on this countdown of the best of 2017 on John's Music World.

#37 - This Town - Kygo, feat. Sasha Sloane

Kygo is another artist who's had a big year, with several stellar tunes off his Stargazing EP and Kids In Love album.  Great stuff!  Check out the beautiful This Town on YouTube.

#36 - Good Old Days - Macklemore, Kesha

Kesha and Macklemore both had stellar years in 2017, and they're celebrating with a joint tour next summer.  Here's a collaboration that's simply stellar!  Check out Good Old Days...

#35 - Sexy Dirty Love - Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato's Sexy Dirty Love is a song I didn't want to like, probably because of the title, but it's a song that just sticks in your head long, long after a listen.  Check it out on John's Music World.

#34 - Kiwi - Harry Styles

She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes
Hard liquor mixed with a bit of intellect
And all the boys, they were saying they were into it
Such a pretty face, on a pretty neck

Hands down my favorite album of the year is Harry Styles debut solo record.  The album is full of masterfully woven tunes from a variety of genres and this hard rocking jam is one of its best.  Check out Kiwi...

#33 - Mercy - Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes is such a talent, and he's another artist who had a lot of success in 2017, with three consecutive top twenty singles, including this one, which peaked at #15 on Billboard's Hot 100.  Check out Mercy on John's Music World.

#32 - Cut to the Feeling - Carly Rae Jepson

You all remember Carly Rae Jepson, don't you?  Though she's never quite reached the pinnacle of the music world since her 2012 smash Call Me Maybe, she has put out several minor hits.  This one, from earlier in the year, is downright catchy and pleasing.  Check out my Song of the Day post for Cut to the Feeling.

#31 - Kids In Love - Kygo, feat. The Night Game

Here's the title cut to Kygo's latest record, Kids In Love.  I could swear this one samples The Who's Baba O'Riley.   Check out Kids In Love.

#30 - Let Me Go - Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line

I fell in love with the music of actress turned singer Hailee Steinfeld this year.  It seems she's got a knack for making great pop songs, and this collaboration with deejay/producer Alesso and country music duo Florida Georgia Line is da bomb.  Check out Let Me Go...

#29 - Told You So - Miguel

Miguel is a new artist to me that just came under my radar this year and he put out several songs that I just love.  Check out this funky funky tune on John's Music World.

#28 - Show Me - John Splithoff, feat. Madison Ryann Ward

Now here's one you'll probably only see and hear on this blog.  I first posted it early on in my New Music Fridays column back in July and I haven't had anyone not love it who I played it for.  The song is by indie recording artist John Splithoff and has all the elements of a great love song...great vocals, great melody, great, great song.  Check out a live acoustic performance of it here and an audio of the original song on John's Music World.

#27 - Help Me Out - Maroon 5, Julia Michaels

The second entry from Maroon 5 is another pleasant tune with a little bit of an island feel to it.  The vocals of Adam Levine and Julia Michaels blend very well together and you can probably catch em performing the sweet tune on tour next year.  Check out Help Me Out.

#26 - Generous - Olivia Holt

Another actress turned singer, Olivia Holt, put out this infectious, fun little ditty and the video is just as naughtily delicious.  Check out Generous...

#25 - Blood In the Cut - K. Flay

Modern day Alanis Morrissette.  That's what I think of when I think of young singer and her song Blood in the Cut.  This is another song that you won't see on any other list, but ooh, it's so deserving of your attention.  Check out this hard-rocking anthem...

#24 - Havana - Camila Cabello, feat. Young Thug

Here's a scorching, Latin-tinged tune that I found curiously attracted to the very first time I heard it.  This woman is going to be a star!  Check out the dramatic, humorous novela of a video for Havana right here.

#23 - Bad Liar - Selena Gomez

The second of three entries for Selena Gomez is a funky, hypnotic jam that always gets me going.  Check out Bad Liar.

Image result for Love So Soft - Kelly Clarkson

#22 - Love So Soft - Kelly Clarkson

The year 2017 saw the return of Kelly Clarkson with her 8th studio album, Meaning of Life, and the record's debut single proved to us all that she's still got it...a strong, soulful voice, and a keen ear for great music.  Check out Love So Soft.

#21 - He Like That - Fifth Harmony

Pumps and a bump

Fifth Harmony, sans Camila Cabello, released their third studio album and it's biggest hit has got just the catchiest hook.  Check out He Like That.

#20 - Hot Damn - The Shadowboxers

Now here's a song that if you hit play, you're just gonna love it.  If it reminds you of Justin Timberlake, then well you'd be 100% spot on.  These boys are signed to J.T.'s label and boy do they carry that same kind of funky soul.  Check out Hot Damn.

#19 - Mi Gente - J. Balvin, Willy William, feat. Beyoncé

Mi Gente is one of those hot Spanish songs that comes along only once in awhile.  With hypnotic rhythms, hot vocals and even a guest spot by none other than BeyoncĂ©, this one is one of the hottest tunes of the year.  Check out Mi Gente...

#18 - Move You - Kelly Clarkson

The second single off of Kelly Clarkson's Meaning of Life is a ballad that simply moves me.  Check out Move You.

Image result for younger now

#17 - Younger Now - Miley Cyrus

We were treated to a brand new, more mature sound from one Miley Cyrus, whose album Younger Now is chock full of thoughtful, quality tunes, including this, the title track.  Check out Younger Now on John's Music World.

#16 - Stay - Zedd, Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara is such a rising star, and though she'd been basking in the success of her debut record, Know It All, that didn't stop her from making one of the hottest songs of the year with deejay/producer Zedd.  Check out the anthemic Stay on John's Music World.

#15 - Your Song - Rita Ora

Rita Ora is a fresh voice on the music scene, at least here in the States.  This lead single to her second studio album became Ora's 9th top ten single in her native U.K. and is so worthy of this high spot on this countdown.  With a sweet melody and even sweeter vocals, you're going to love it if you don't already.  Check out Your Song...

#14 - Most Girls - Hailee Steinfeld

Oh yeah, I became a super fan of Hailee Steinfeld this year.  This song is so catchy, I wish it had done better than it actually did, only peaking at #58 on Billboard's Hot 100.  Check out Most Girls on a Song of the Day post from May.

#13 - It Ain't Me - Kygo, Selena Gomez

Two of the biggest stars of 2017 collaborated on one of the year's best pop dance anthems.  Check out It Ain't Me on a Best of 2017 Song of the Day.

#12 - Despacito - Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, feat. Justin Bieber

One of the biggest collaborations of the year featured two of Latin music's biggest stars, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.  As if the song wasn't big enough, the two of them enlisted Justin Bieber for a remix of the tune which catapulted it into the stratosphere.  You can check out the video for the original here and an audio version with Bieber here.

#11 - New Rules - Dua Lipa

British phenom Dua Lipa scorched up the charts this year with this soulful, sexy, in-your-face jam that brought her into the collective minds of many.  By the sounds of this and some of her other stuff, this young lady is going to be a big star.  Check out New Rules...

#10 - Malibu - Miley Cyrus

I never came to the beach or stood by the ocean
I never sat by the shore under the sun with my feet in the sand
But you brought me here and I'm happy that you did
'Cause now I'm as free as birds catching the wind

Miley Cyrus' first single off her Younger Now album is simply melancholic, reflective, and beautiful!  Check it out on John's Music World.

#9 - Middle of the Night - The Vamps

This awesome, uplifting tune was my first experience with The Vamps and the song is so good, I even got some of my friends to love it.  Boy, do these guys need to hit it big here!  Check out Middle of the Night...

#8 - Strangers - Halsey, Lauren Jauregui

This dramatic duet was the second off of Halsey's sophomore album, hopeless fountain kingdom. It's a first for the openly bisexual singer, an open song of love for another woman. The tune features Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony, whose voice perfectly blends with Halsey's.  Check out Strangers on John's Music World.

Image result for shape of you

#7 - Shape of You - Ed Sheeran

I'm sure that this monster tune will end up higher on virtually every other year-end chart, and deservedly so, but based on my own musical tastes I'd say I'm doing alright by putting it at #7.  Check out the wildly hypnotic Shape of You on John's Music World, and while you're at it, take a look-see at this wonderful mash-up of the tune by The Vamps and Connor Maynard right here.

#6 - Swish Swish - Katy Perry, feat. Nicki Minaj

I first took notice of this song at a club in Philly when seemingly everybody in the place was singing and dancing along like crazy to the hypnotic beats.  The song only grew on me from there, becoming an anthem for our Roller Coaster Road Trip over the summer and hearing it again and again at other clubs.  Love it!  Check out this performance of the tune on SNL featuring a whole lotta drag queens and the backpack boy...

#5 - What About Us - P!nk

The year 2017 saw the much anticipated return of the wonderful, uber-talented P!nk, and with the debut single from her beautiful Trauma album, she proved she's still got it.  Check out What About Us...

Image result for there's nothing holding me back

#4 - There's Nothing Holding Me Back - Shawn Mendes

It seems that of all the great songs that I heard in 2017, I probably heard this one the most, and for good reason.  Shawn's voice and the way this track is performed is just awesome!  Check it out on this featured Song of the Day post from August.

#3 - Sign of the Times - Harry Styles

The lead single to Harry Styles' debut solo album is a melodramatic, heart-wrenching masterpiece.  Check out Sign of the Times...

Image result for feel it still portugal the man

#2 - Feel It Still - Portugal.  The Man

One of the best songs of the year comes from a band with a very strange name.  It was this song that I wrote about just a couple of weeks ago when I mentioned how friends will mention a song to me way after I'd already posted it on here. Funky, funky goodness!

#1 - Look What You Made Me Do - Taylor Swift

Well, Taylor Swift has done it to me again with this irresistible, sexy jam that makes for a perfect stripper pole-dance number.  Though it got a lot of flak for whatever reason, it's such a hot song!  Check it out...

So there you have it, my picks for the top 50 pop tunes of 2017.  Like I said, you probably won't find a lot of the songs from my countdown on any other charts, but in my opinion they're the best this year has had to offer.  Stay tuned for upcoming posts on the Top 50 Dance Tunes of 2017 and the Top Ten Albums of 2017.

Best of 2017 Song of the Day - Younger Now - Miley Cyrus

Image result for younger now

One of my favorite songs of 2017 is this, the second single from Miley Cyrus' Younger Now album.  Virtually all of the songs on the record show off a newer, more mature side of the talented young songstress, and this song set the tone for that.  Simply beautiful!  Check out Younger Now...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Treat You Better - Shawn Mendes

Image result for treat you better

Since we're working on the Best of 2017, I figured I'd post a flashback from a song that did well earlier in the year.  It's from the immensely talented Shawn Mendes, who had probably his best year ever as a recording artist.  Check out Treat You Better...

Best of 2017 Song of the Day - Malibu - Miley Cyrus

Image result for malibu miley cyrus

The year 2017 was an especially nice year for 25 year-old Miley Cyrus, who created a newfound sound that is much more mature than her previous efforts.  Several nice tunes have come off Younger Now, and this beautiful, melancholic tune is one of the best.  Check out Malibu...

Best of 2017 Song of the Day - Best Friend - Sofi Tukker, feat. NERVO, The Knocks, Alisa Ueno

Image result for best friend sofi tucker

I've been working on my lists for best dance song, pop songs and albums from 2017 and so I'll be featuring a few in this week's Song of the Day posts.  Here's an artist that has had a very big 2017.  I remember first discovering and posting their song Johny back in January.  I thought it was very different, very avante garde retro Euro.  I didn't think much more about the New York-based duo until the summer, when I first came across their hi-energy, fast and frenzied F**k They.  I became a bona fide fan.

The duo's next single was yet another funky, high energy track that became very-well known for its spot in the commercial for Apple's new iPhone x.  For me, it's one of the best dance hits of the year.  Check out Best Friend...

Song of the Day - Father Figure - George Michael

Image result for father figure george michael

It was last Christmas that we all heard the shocking news of George Michael's sudden and unexpected death.  It's hard to believe it's been a year already, but at least we've still got his music to enjoy.  Here's one of his best...

A Christmas Song of the Day - The Little Drummer Boy - Alex Boyé, feat. The Genesis Choir

Image result for the little drummer boy alex boye

Whatever the language, the message is still the same! #ASaviorIsBorn

This is the message that appears towards the end of British-American singer Alex BoyĂ©'s video for one of my favorite Christmas songs, The Little Drummer Boy.  I'm always striving to bring new and unique stuff to John's Music World, and this African Tribal version is just that, and still makes for a great tune.  Check out this fun version of a classic...

New Music Fridays, December 22nd, 2017

I guess with Christmas right around the corner, it was bound to be a slow week in new music.  That's good, though, because my Current playlist is filling up quick!  Check out these few winners from this week's crop...

Thorns (Le Youth Remix) - Bonnie McKee

Bonnie McKee's got one of the catchier tunes on this week's new music offerings, and the Le Youth remix of the song is the bomb.  Check out Thorns...

Fractures - James Mercy, Ameria

Now here's a really nice, dramatic dance tune by tried and true EDM artists James Mercy and Ameria.  The song's got all of the ingredients of a great dance track, great vocals and a nice backbeat.  Check out Fractures...

You're the One - Dr. Vades

Here's a nice, high energy jam from production company Dr. Vades.  Check out You're the One...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Music Sounds Better With You - Stardust

Image result for music sounds better with you stardust

Ever since I highlighted NVDES' Everyday on last week's New Music Fridays, I've had this song on my mind.  Back in the mid to late 90's, there was a short-lived neo-disco movement in dance music, and Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You was one of its biggest successes.  Now we're seeing a new trend towards the same type of music, and NVDES and others are really doing it well.  Check out this classic and enjoy your Friday...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Dirty Sexy Money - David Guetta & Afrojack, with Charli XCX and French Montana

61kkzspblul-_ss500

Back in early November, I highlighted a new collaboration with legendary deejay/producers David Guetta and Afrojack called Dirty Sexy Money.  Many of the reviews I had seen were somewhat unfavorable, but I likened it to something out of Guetta's uber-successful past, big on vocals and big on sound.  I, for one, love Dirty Sexy Money (even though I hate the title!).  Check out the brand new video...

Song of the Day - Feel It Still - Portugal, The Man

Image result for feel it still

Today's post is a kinda I told you so sort of thing.  You see, a few weeks back and within a day or two of one another, two separate friends mentioned how much they loved this song by Portugal, The Man.  Sigh!  I've got a lot of friends who see my Song of the Day posts, yet don't usually check them out.  I first posted this song, excitedly I may add, way back in March, way ahead of its time on the radio.  This wasn't the first time someone has commented on how much they liked a song that I had previously posted.  Ugh!  I was a deejay for 12 years for crying out loud!  I think I know good music when I hear it.  That being said, if any of my friends are reading this, please...pay attention!  Maybe, just maybe, you'll find something you like from me for a change.  Sigh!  Here's Feel It Still...

New Music Fridays, December 15th, 2017 - The Week's Hottest New Tracks

At first I thought this week's picks were going to be tough to choose.  In fact, I wasn't even sure if I was going to find five new tracks to highlight, but after a second and a third listen, the songs from this week;s offerings started to seep in and then I had trouble dwindling it down to five.  Check it out...

burn - Billie Eilish

You may remember singer Billie Eilish from her sexy, sultry tune, Bellyache.  Well she's back with a brand new scorcher and it's even sexier than her previous hit.  Check out burn...

Then - Ann Marie

British songstress Ann Marie offers up one of the hottest songs of the season, a sultry break-up song that just makes you want to sing along strong!  Check out Then...

The Feeling - John Lindahl, feat. Logic

John Lindahl is a young, twenty-something singer who's just getting out on his own after guesting on a couple of tunes by Logic.  In advance of his first EP, Changes, Lindhal has put out a fast and frenzied shot of quick-paced neo-disco.  If you close your eyes and hear his voice, you'd swear you were somewhere back in the 70's.  Check out The Feeling...

Walls - NVDES

I tell ya, I am really digging the sounds of LA-based production team NVDES.  Seemingly every tune they put out ends up on  my Current playlist and this one will be no different.  Yet another bit of neo-disco, this one makes you make all the funky moves you used to make as a kid, whether it was to something by Earth, Wind & Fire or even more recently Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You, from which I believe this tune is sampled.  Check out the groovy Walls...

Sirens - Gold Fir

Either I'm going crazy or there's another new wave of neo-disco coming at us in droves.  The third such tune to revive some of the sounds of the 70's is this soulful jam by British duo Gold Fir.  Check out another awesome, funky track, Sirens...

So there you go, five hot new tracks to whet your appetite for hot new music.  As always, there's always more to check out, so take a look at some very honorable mentions bubbling just under the surface of my top five this week:

River - Eminem, Ed Sheeran
Backseat - Charli XCX, feat. Carly Rae Jepson
Faded - Kim Petras, lil aaron
Do Right - Glades
Rather Die - Zoe Nash
Don't Mind - INNA
Andromeda (DRAM Special) - Gorillaz
Starry Night - Anish Sood, Zach Sorgen, Kelechi

Song of the Day - Mi Gente - J. Balvin, Willy William, feat. Beyoncé

Image result for mi gente

Here's a hot song that I am hearing everywhere.  I think maybe it's so hot because of the BeyoncĂ© guest vocals on the mix that's being played, but it does have a hypnotic sound and the Spanish, ooh the Spanish!  Check out Me Gente...

As an extra bonus treat, here's the original video for the song sans Bey.  Still hot!

Here's a cute little Christmas tune from this year's crop of new Christmas music.  The song is written and performed by the immensely talented Sia and the video, featuring a bevy of celebs including Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Caleb McLaughlin, Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Olef, is as cute as the song.  Check out Santa's Coming For Us...

Song of the Day - Off My Feet - Pia Mia

Image result for Off My Feet - Pia Mia

Recording artist Pia Mia started out with a promising debut, Touch, back in 2015, but had since sputtered out of view...that is, until now.  Mia's new tune, Off My Feet, is a sweet-sounding and catchy pop tune that is definitely worth a listen.  Check it out right here...

Hump Day Song of the Day - The Mating Game - BitterSweet

220px-bittersweet_mating

Here's a retro trip hop tune from a duo called BitterSweet.  I Shazamed the song whilst in Vegas and for me it hearkened back to a late sixties jammer.  The track was recorded in 2006, so it really is an older song, though the sound, with those big horns and sultry vocals, is undoubtedly one for perhaps a beatnik lounge?  Check out The Mating Game...

Song of the Day - Wolves - Selena Gomez, Marshmello

Song of the Day - Here - Alessia Cara

Image result for here alessia cara

I had this one in my head all day yesterday and it's always worth another post.

I'm sorry if I seem uninterested
Or I'm not listenin', or I'm indifferent
Truly I ain't got no business here
But since my friends are here, I just came to kick it
But really I would rather be at home all by myself
Not in this room
With people who don't even care about my well-being
I don't dance, don't ask, I don't need a boyfriend
So you can, go back, please enjoy your party
I'll be here
Somewhere in the corner
Under clouds of marijuana
With this boy who's hollering
I can hardly hear
Over this music I don't listen to
And I don't wanna get with you
So tell my friends that I'll be over here

Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
Oh I ask myself, what am I doin' here?
Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
And I can't wait 'til we can break up out of here

Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this
An anti-social pessimist, but usually I don't mess with this
And I know you mean only the best
And your intentions aren't to bother me
But honestly I'd rather be
Somewhere with my people
We can kick it and just listen to
Some music with a message, like we usually do
And we'll discuss our big dreams
How we plan to take over the planet
So pardon my manners
I hope you'll understand that I'll be here
Not there in the kitchen
With the girl who's always gossiping about her friends
So tell them I'll be here
Right next to the boy who's throwin' up
Cause he can't take what's in his cup no more
Oh God why am I here?

Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
Oh I ask myself, what am I doin' here?
Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
And I can't wait 'til we can break up out of here

Hours later congregatin' next to the refrigerator
Some girl talkin' 'bout her haters, she ain't got none
How did it ever come to this? I shoulda never come to this
So holla at me, I'll be in the car when you're done
I'm stand-offish, don't want what you're offerin'
And I'm done talkin', awfully sad it had to be that way
So tell my people when they're ready that I'm ready
And I'm standin' by the TV with my beanie low
Yo I'll be over here

Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
Oh I ask myself, what am I doin' here?
Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
And I can't wait 'til we can break up out of here

Hello and welcome back to John's World's New Music Fridays, a weekly look at the hottest new music tracks of the week.  Let's get right down to this week's selections...

Out of My Head - Charli XCX, feat. Tove Lo, ALMA

I've wanted to like British songstress Charli XCX for a long time now, but until now I haven't heard anything stellar enough from her to sink my teeth into.  Again, till now.  This new one, featuring Tove Lo and ALMA is a pleasant, catchy song I can definitely wrap my ears around.  Check out Out of My Head...

Untouchable - Eminem

Though Eminem is admittedly a legend and his legions of fans can argue all day which of his tracks they like best, I've never really liked his stuff.  Well Em is back with some brand new stuff.  First it was the tender Walk On Water with BeyoncĂ© a couple of weeks ago and this week finds him bringing some old school sounds to some very current lyrics.  Check out Untouchable...

Never Be the Same - Camila Cabello

Former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello has had a very productive 2017.  With a couple of hot singles previewing her just-released debut solo effort, Cabello's name has no doubt catapulted into a lot of music lovers' collective minds and her popularity will only continue to grow with tunes like this one.  Here's the sweet Never be the Same...

I Could Always - Le Youth, feat. MNDR

Here's a nice, disco-ish tune from producers Le Youth and MNDR.  Check out I Could Always...

Everyday - NVDES

...and speaking of neo-disco, here's a funked up track by LA-based production team known as NVDES.  With several nice tunes under their belt already, this is an artist that will be on my radar for a long time to come.  Check out Everyday...

It's hard to believe that it's almost one year already since we lost George Michael, both suddenly and unexpectedly.  Here's one of my favorite tunes of his, a melancholy and rhythmic song full of heart and soul.  Check out the beautiful, tender Waiting For That Day...

nmf-logo-rgb-stacked_blue-navy

Welcome back to John's Music World's New Music Fridays, a weekly spotlight on the hottest new music tracks of the week.  For those of you who know me and follow me, you know that dance music is my main thing, and this week we've got a lot of dance stuff to check out...

Perfect (Duet) - Ed Sheeran & Beyoncé

One of the biggest tunes to come out this week is a reworking of Ed Sheeran's Perfect into a duet featuring BeyoncĂ©.  The already beautiful tune becomes even more so in this rendition, as the two talented singers take turns at the verses and meld together splendidly on the chorus.  I can already see this one as the first dance at weddings.  Check out Perfect...

Breathe - Jax Jones, Ina Wroldsen

British producer Jax Jones follows up his Demi Lovato/Stfflon Don collaboration, Instruction, with a brand new dance floor filler.  So far I've loved everything this guy has done and when I see his name on the New Music Fridays Playlist on Spotify, I am rushing to check it out.  This one's got a nice beat and some great vocals.  Check out Breathe...

Off My Feet - Pia Mia

Guam born and YouTube personality Pia Mia has just released a brand new track and it is pure pop deliciousness, catchy and pleasing to the ears.  Check out Off My Feet...

Never Too Late (YOUNOTUS Mix) - Alle Farben, Sam Gray

I've loved the music of German deejay/producer ever since his collaboration with Graham Candy on the irresistibly chill Sometimes.  This mix of Farben's latest is a little less chill, a little more bright than the former track, and it's oh so feel-good!  Check out Never Too Late...

bruised - morgxn, Lenno

I love me some good neo-disco, and this fresh track from indie artist Morgxn has all the elements of a good old disco track from the 70's.  Just click play, close your eyes and let the music take you back and away.  Check out bruised...

Well, for a dance music aficionado, this has been a great week of new music and I can't wait to seep these jamming tunes into my head this week.  Stay tuned for more New Music Fridays and check out some of this week's honorable mentions...
