Song of the Day - Dreams - Deep Dish/Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac

Me, Eddie and Dita in Nashville last year

Today's song comes as a special request and I am only too happy to oblige.  For reasons which I'll explain later on John's World, I've had a very special house guest over the weekend.  I like to say that Eddie is our fourth, though history-wise, he'll argue that he is our second.  Most of you know a lot about my two besties Dita and Blanche from many of my posts on here.  Well, Eddie, or Rose, would be mentioned much more here as well if he lived in New York, but alas he lives about 1,300 miles away in Florida, so it's only about once or twice a year that any of us get to see him.

Out of the four of us,, Eddie and I are the two music men of the group.  That is, we're the two for whom music is a really big part of our lives, and we've shared many a conversation on the best of the newest music to come out at any given time.  As Madonna is my muse, Stevie Nicks is Eddie's.  For as long as I know him, Eddie has always been THE Stevie Nicks aficionado, able to share the latest news and goings on in her world.  As people think of me when they hear anything Madonna, so it is with Eddie and Stevie.

Upon going to bed last night, I had mentioned getting up early to post my Song of the Day, Eddie requested that I post something Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac.  Now I am a fan of both, but I mentioned aloud that I'd been doing this Summer Jams theme on John's Music World, and I wasn't sure if any of their tunes would fit the theme, but then I thought of this one.  The Deep Dish version of Mac's classic Dreams is a great interpretation of the original and a dance floor classic into and of itself, and thus today's choice.  If you don't know it, click play and check it out.  It works really well! And as for Eddie, enjoy my friend...

Song of the Day - Wash Over Me - Madonna, with Avicii

On the YouTube page to this video, the page owner has the words "official remix better than the original." Man, he is soooo right!!!  After hearing the remix version of Wash All Over Me at the Ice Palace last weekend, I'd found a while new appreciation for this tune and I've been playing it virtually non-stop all week long.  Judging by the reaction on and around the dance floor last Sunday I realize that I'm not the only one who loves this tune.  If this one doesn't catch on, I don't know what will....it's the perfect dance tune, and in classic Madonna style...earthy, groovalicious, and just oh so danceable!  Check it out...

Flashback Friday Summer Jam Song of the Day - Sun Is Up - Inna

Today we flashback five years, back to 2010 and this very summery dance tune by Romanian dance diva Inna.  I remember discovering her through an Ultra Records dance compilation and I found my self playing this one out in no time, along with another Inna smash, Left Right.  Both songs blend perfectly with a day at the beach, and so if that's where you're headed today, you should definitely take this one with you...

Like raindrops from the desert sky
For you I'll be waiting
Like seeing stars and endless nights
For you I'll be waiting

Won't you take me over
Just a little bit closer
A little bit closer...

Oh, what a perfect summer jam!  This dancey little gem has got the summer sun written all over it. Summer Jams Song of the Day - What's Up (Remix) - 4 Non Blondes

Happy Memorial Day!  Here's a summer jam that had virtually everybody at Cherry's up and dancing and screaming at the tops of their lungs yesterday.  This was a great ballad back in the day and an equally good dance song in its remix version.  Enjoy!

Damn you just got me mesmerized

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It's a beautiful day out today and that bodes very well for a great time at Cherry Grove.  Oh yeah, there's going to be a lot of dancing going on later, and if only they'd play this one.  The Freemason's remix of Faith Evan's Mesmerized is quite simply da bomb!  It's great neo-disco at its best, so click play and boogey down...

Yesterday, we embarked on a summer full of my favorite summer dance jams with the the awesome Let Me Think About It, and we continue today with a hot dance jam of the moment.  I said a few weeks ago that this one will be one of the hottest dance tunes of the summer and I'm sticking to my word.  This song is hot...

Madonna Postpones First Five Dates of Rebel Heart Tour

Rolling Stone has reported today that Madonna has postponed the first five dates of her upcoming tour in support of the new Rebel Heart album.  The singer announced the postponements of the five shows, in Miami (August 29th and 30th), Atlanta (September 2nd), and Puerto Rico (September 5th and 6th), stating that "assembling all the elements [of the show] will take a lot more time than we realized." Here's the full statement:

As my fans already know, the show has to be perfect.  Assembling all of the elements will require more time than we realized.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause my fans.  I can promise you that this show will be worth the wait.  Can't wait to share it with all my Rebel Hearts out there.

I'm sure the fans in Miami, Atlanta and Puerto Rico will be disappointed, but as one who's seen all of her shows since the Who's That Girl Tour in 1986, I can attest to the fact that a Madonna concert is not just any ordinary show, and if she says it'll be worth the wait, it certainly will be!.  Check out Rolling Stone for the full story and stay tuned for more on Rebel Heart.

Song of the Day - Something New - Axwell & that's both chIngrosso

Here's a newish song I recently discovered on Spotify that's both chill and dance.  It's by Swedish dance duo Axwell and Ingrosso and it's a nice way to lead into the upcoming holiday weekend. Happy Thursday!

Song of the Day - Feeling Myself - Nicki Minaj, feat. Beyoncé

Here's another new vid for a bug-name tune coming out this week, this time from Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj.  The two singers have reunited for Feeling Myself, from Minaj's The Pinkprint, Not sure how I'm feeling about it...kinda slow and jammy if you like that kind of stuff.  For the record, I wasn't crazy about Flawless.  Anyway, check out the audio version of Feeling Myself...

Song of the Day - Bad Blood - Taylor Swift, featuring Kendrick Lamar

Taylor Swift has released a new video from her smash 1989 album and it's already the hottest song in the land.  Not as catchy or sugary as Shake It Off, this one's pure pop, and even Kendrick Lamar's contribution seems out of his realm.  Still, it is catchy and it's sure to get a lot of airplay.  Check out Bad Blood...

Song of the Day - Feedback - Janet Jackson

Light skin
Dark skin
My Asian persuasion...

Have you heard?  Oh, it's been such a long time!  Ms. Jackson if you're nasty is back, and I know a lot of people that are super-excited, including me.  USA Today reports, after a couple of weeks of high speculation, that Miss Janet will indeed be coming out with a new set of music...her first since 2008's Discipline.  The singer herself posted a tweet yesterday with a link to a Vimeo vid in which she states,

I promised you'd hear it from my lips, and now you will.  This year: new music, new world tour, a new movement.  I've been listening.  Let's keep the conversation going.

Exciting news!  Stay tuned, and in the meantime, here's the opening single to Discipline, a work that embodied much of what had brought her great success in the 90's, though it didn't fare nearly as well as anything she did back then.  Those who know it, know it well, and those that don't can...take a listen...

Song of the Day - Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson, feat. Bruno Mars

I've been really reluctant to post this song again.  I think the last time I posted it was months ago, not long after its release, but it wasn't long after that that it took off in a huge way.  I've heard it everywhere and seen it everywhere, and many have posted homemade dance videos of it.  Ugh, talk about played out!  But it is a good tune, though...nuthin' but funk!

Song of the Day - Earned It - The Weeknd

Here's a sultry, sexy song from the Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack.  It's by Canadian R&B crooner The Weeknd, and it peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the not so distant past.  It's a nice tune to go along with a rainy day spent at home.  Check it out...

Song of the Day - You Know You Like It - DJ Snake and AlunaGeorge

You know you like it
but it drives you insane

Good morning and Happy Hump Day!  Here's a nice, smooth dancey, chillish tune for your listening pleasure.  The tune was actually recorded by French electronic duo AlunaGeorge back in 2011, but this DJ Snake remix version came out last year and achieved moderate success here and elsewhere. Check out You Know You Like It...

Song of the Day - Feel So Close - Calvin Harris

I feel so close to you right now

Song of the Day - Good Feeling - Flo Rida

Oh oh, sometimes
I get a good feeling!

It's Monday, but I am in a good mood this morning because my NY Rangers tied their playoff series last night with the Washington Capitals in a thrilling hockey game.  Anyway, I thought I'd celebrate this good feeling with a song of the same name.  This clever take on Etta James' Something's Got a Hold On Me always makes me feel good when I listen.  So click play, enjoy the tune, and go out and have a great day!

Song of the Day - Oh Mother - Christina Aguilera

So Mother, I thank you
For all that you've done and still do
You got me, I got you
Together we always pull through

It's a beautiful May day outside and a perfect one to celebrate mother's everywhere.  A mother is one of the most enduring and important relationships one has in life.  Her love is unconditional, and as such she deserves to be treated like a queen not only on Mother's Day, but every day.  Happy Mother's Day!

Song of the Day - Figure 8 - Malibu n Helene

Good morning and Happy Saturday!  Here's a funky tune I discovered on Spotify not too long ago. t's made its way into my regular rotation of songs I listen to on a regular basis and it reminds me of some of those down n dirty jams that they used to make in the 90's.  Check it out...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Please Don't Stop the Music- Rihanna

It's Friday, and it's warm and it's a great time to dance and celebrate life.  Rihanna's got some new music out, and so far I'm not really loving too much of what I've heard, but she's got enough stuff in her catalog to have me dancing for hours and here's one of my favorites...

Song of the Day - Want to Want Me - Jason Derulo

Here's a pure pop tune by Jason Derulo that's already a big hit, and perhaps one of this summer's smashes?  Catchy, happy, dancey...sounds good to me!  Check it out...

A Song of the Day for Dad - Beam Me Up - P!nk

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the death of my father, George Myers, and I want to share a special song by a special artist to mark the occasion.  The song is Beam Me Up, and it was written and performed by P!nk for her album The Truth About Love.  I've taught this very special song to my class a couple of years ago, and it si so good that they still mention it every once in awhile.

The song speaks of a parallel universe, where nothing breaks and nothing hurts.  It becomes obvious from the onset of the tune that someone very special has passed on recently, and all she wants is to be beamed up, just for a minute, so she could stare and hold the person's face one last time.  Oh, if only we could all get to make that wish come true for the many people we've lost in our lifetimes, like me with my dad.

I never really appreciated having my dad around while he was alive, at least not until the last few years he was with us, and so for anyone out there who is estranged from his or her father, please remember that no matter how bad a father he was or whatever he might have done to make your relationship strained, he is your father and he does love you!  Peace!

Song of the Day - Imagine - John Lennon

I was helping a student yesterday with an assignment in English class in which she had to choose four poetic songs and analyze them for meaning and structure, and one of the songs she chose was John Lennon's Imagine.  It couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.  During my ride home a short while after working with the student, I heard of the death of police officer Brian Moore.

The news saddened me.  A promising young life, killed for no reason in this terrible new problem we seem to be faced with these days.  I took to my blog Rants last night to address the issue in my own way, and still, I am sad.  I can't help but marvel about Lennon's utopia...Imagine all the people, living life in peace...if only!

Song of the Day - Jubel - Klingande

My friend Sonny always makes me mixtapes.  Out-of-the-mainstream music is a common interest we both share and he always finds me these musical gems I never would have discovered without him. Well, yesterday he and I were supposed to meet, and in anticipation of our visit I was going to make him a mixtape of stuff that I love, yet he may not know.  I have no idea if he will read this, because it might spoil some and we never were able to get together yesterday, but here's one tune I put on his mixtape.  It's by French producer Klingande and I just picture myself by a beach whenever I take a listen.  It's chill, but it is fresh and oh so summer...sexy saxaphones!  Check out Jubel, jubilance....

New Music: Britney and Iggy's 'Pretty Girls'

All around the world, pretty girls
Wipe the floor, with all the boys
Pour the drinks, bring the noise
We're just so pretty

thenewmusicbuzz

Here comes a tune that's surely going to get lots of airplay this summer.  Yes, the new collaboration between Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea has officially leaked on to the Internets yesterday and it's just what you might expect from two singers as sassy as these.  Check it out on directlyrics and let me know what you think.

Song of the Day - Everything - Katy B, with Jessie Ware

I will be the one who will be beside you
Even when the stars don't seem so bright
Any obstacle that life throws I'll fight through
I will be the one

I will be the one that can show you hope here
Even when the night drowns out the light
You will hear my voice even through the darkness
I will be the one

I've loved the music of Katy B ever since I first heard her.  Sista's got a deep, soulful voice and the pulsating rhythms of virtually all of her tracks give them a late night house feel like no other.  Here's my favorite of her songs, one with a simple name, but one that's beautiful lyrically and infectious musically.  Check out Katy B's Everything and have a great Sunday!

Song of the Day - Ghosttown - Madonna

When it all falls, when it all falls down
I'll be your fire when the lights go out
When there's no one, no one else around
We'll be two souls in a ghosttown

It's been awhile since I've talked about anything Rebel Heart, even though it's still what I'm listening to the most in my spare time (I haven't been too happy lately with the new music scene...ugh!).  Any who, Madge has appropriately chosen Ghosttown as the album's second single, and she even shot a video for it, though I'm puzzled by the toofus thingy she's got going on in it...great song anyway! Here's Ghosttown...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Till the World Ends - Britney Spears

Since Britney made headlines this week for falling down during her show in Vegas on Wednesday night (see TMZ), I figured I'd give her props and a big get well with a Flashback Friday Britney post. The singer hurt her ankle pretty badly in the accident and she's been forced to cancel two shows this weekend to rest it.  So even though she can't dance right now, what's to stop all of us from doing so...
