From the upcoming movie, Marvel's Black Panther, here is one hot jam from Kendrick Lamar and SZA. Check out All the Stars and then go out and have an awesome Thursday!
I bookmarked an unusually high number of new music tunes this week, including Justin Timberlake's new set, Man of the Woods. Though I saved so many tunes, I actually struggled to find five I wanted to feature. With the exception of the first three on this week's list, I could have highlighted any of the honorable mentions and still been happy with my choices. Check it out...
Pray For Me - The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar
Pray For Me is a hot, hypnotic new collaboration featuring two of today's hottest R&B/rap stars. The song, from the soundtrack to the upcoming Marvel feature film, Black Panther, is instantly likable as The Weekend and Kendrick Lamar show off their best. Check out Pray For Me...
Us - Jennifer Lopez, Skrillex, Poo Bear
After what seems like an awfully long hiatus, J-Lo makes her return to the music scene with a brand new collaborative effort with Skrillex and Poo Bear. Us is a Latin-infused dance number that the singer confirmed at the Super Saturday Night show in Minneapolis was about herself and current beau Alex Rodriguez. Nice track! Check out Us...
Savior - Iggy Azalea, Quavo
Another singer who seems to have taken quite a sabbatical from music is back with a more serious, yet nicely rhythmic tune. Iggy Azalea returns to center stage with a deeply personal tune written at a tough period in the singer's life.
I'd had a big breakup, and my career wasn't going well, and I sort of found myself in this space where everything that I was used to, just my day to day routine, had abruptly stopped. And I just didn't know how to get my life back together, or what my life looked like with all of these changes, and how to get a routine going again, and just how to get my happiness back and feeling normal.
Savior features fellow rapper Quavo and though it's a bit more of a serious tone than we're used to, it's got a really nice groove and with Quavo's vocals, it really works. Check out Savior...
Proud of Me - Mahalia, Little Simz
Up and coming R&B singer Mahalia has come out with an ear-pleasing, mid-tempo gem featuring MC extraordinaire Little Simz. Check out Proud of Me...
Lifted - Allie X, Banx & Ranx
Canadian singer Allie X has teamed up with production duo Banx & Ranx for this island-flavored jam that will be getting a lot of listens during my music time, for sure. Check out Lifted...
And here are those honorable mentions I mentioned...
Well the first week of 2018 in new music has already been monumental, with new efforts by Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and more. Let's take a look...
Filthy - Justin Timberlake
Of course, the biggest news in new music this week is the always highly anticipated return of Justin Timberlake to the scene. The 36 year old singer released a new song and video for Filthy, a lead single to what will be his 4th studio album, Man of the Woods. Bottom line: the song's got a steady, mid-tempo vibe that's funky, as you might expect. It's not as catchy as Timberlake's previous effort, Can't Stop the Feeling, but it's definitely gonna grow on me. Though Entertainment Weekly's Eric Renner Brown hated it, I, for a change, think it's kind of exciting! Judge for yourself as you take a look and listen at the futuristic and fun accompanying video for Filthy...
All the Stars - Kendrick Lamar, SZA
The lead single to the soundtrack of Marvel's upcoming Black Panter film is a collaboration between rapper du jour Kendrick Lamar and R&B singer SZA. Now I don't often cover rap/hip-hop tunes, but Lamar is exceptional and this track is quality. Check out All the Stars...
Finesse - Bruno Mars, Cardi B
Anyone who was around back in the early 90's will immediately recognize the set for Bruno Mars and Cardi B's new video for Finesse, and the end of the video dedication gives proper testament to that great sketch comedy show, In Living Color. Of course, as with any Bruno Mars song, this one's funky and cool, but for me, and former fly girl Jennifer Lopez, the video is da bomb! Check out Finesse...
For You - Liam Payne, Rita Ora
Two of my favorite new singers have come together for a song from the upcoming Fifty Shades Freed movie. For You is a sweet duet that puts together two of music's brightest young voices. What a nice, dramatic tune! Check it out...
Heart's Ain't Gonna Lie - Arlissa, Jonas Blue
Jonas Blue is starting the new year off right with a reworking of British singer Arlissa's neew promotional single, Heart's Ain't Gonna Lie. There's no real good video or audio for this sweet pop tune, but trust me, it's good!
B.A.M. - Schilly
Here's another funky, funky tune that well worth a listen. It's really too bad that this one isn't around the Internet either! As always, though, you can check out the track on Spotify.
Maroon 5 is back with a brand new song that's kinda kitschy in a sort of bubble gum tropical pop song kind of way. The tune, which dropped earlier this week, features a verse performed by hot R&B/rapper Kendrik Lamar, was somewhat of a surprise as not many saw it coming. The Pokemon-Go themed vid made its debut yesterday and features several cameos . I'm pretty sure I won't be downloading this one, but I am sure that Maroon 5 fans probably already have. Check out Don't Wanna Know...
Here's a perfect song for you Hump Day, a funky, sexy jam by Robin Thicke from his highly successful 2013 album, Blurred Lines. The song features guest rap interludes by current superstar Kendrik Lamar and 2 Chainz, and to me is just as good as the other hugely successful title track. Enjoy...
One of the most talked-about performances at the Grammys this year was one by Mr. Kendrick Lamar, a bona fide neo-soul extraordinaire. Well, this is the song of his that started it all for me, the funkdafied hip-hop soul that is I...
Taylor Swift has released a new video from her smash 1989 album and it's already the hottest song in the land. Not as catchy or sugary as Shake It Off, this one's pure pop, and even Kendrick Lamar's contribution seems out of his realm. Still, it is catchy and it's sure to get a lot of airplay. Check out Bad Blood...
Over the weekend I posted a little R&B and funk from the past, and here's a brand new soon-to-be classic rhythm and blues song from today. Kendrick Lamar's I is an awesomely groovy R&B jam, so nice that it won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Rap??? I guess, but it's still good ole R&B to me. Eh, well sure there's rap in the tune, but that's not even the best part. If you don't know I, then check it out...
