Song of the Day - Get It Right - Diplo, feat. MO

Image result for get it right diplo

They can try to hold me down, but I am
I'm gonna get it right
When the sky is filled with smoke and fire
I'm gonna get it right
All I want is something better in the purple light
They can try to hold me down, but I am
I'm gonna get it right

On this day I am reminded that this is what my mission in life is...just get it right!

Song of the Day - Let Me Go - Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line, watt

Image result for let me go hailee steinfeld
I have absolutely loved almost everything actress turned singer Hailee Steinfeld has done to date, from the sweet and tender Starving, with Zedd to the catchy Most Girls, she's got a keen pop sense that really shows in her music.  Her latest, Let Me Go, is no different.  This one, with Alesso and Florida Georgia Line, is simply splendid and uplifting.  Check out Let Me Go...

New Music Fridays, November 24th, 2017 - Five Hot New Tracks

nmf-logo-rgb-stacked_blue-navy

Hello and welcome back to John's World's New Music Fridays, a look at the freshest new music tunes of the week.  This was an unusual week for new music, with no big names releasing new stuff, but as always there is something to whet your new music whistle.  Check it out...

Energia - Sofi Tukker

I am loving Sofi Tukker with each new release!  Energia, their latest, is a fast and frenzied high energy track that's sung in Brazilian Portuguese.  The track was released on November 17th, but for whatever reason it didn't come to my ears until just yesterday.  Check out Energia...

Is Your Love Enough - Little Mix

British girl group Little Mix have returned to the radio and the dance floor with this Latin-inspired dance-pop tune.  With infectious rhythms and pulsating beats, this one's a winner!  Check out Is Your Love Enough...

Cool - Basic Tape, feat. Huntar

Here's another great tune from an obscure act called Basic Tape.  The vocals on this tune have a nice, soulful, rockish sound, and is backed by a nice pop melody.  Catchy track!  Check out Cool...

My Way - One Bit, Noah Cyrus

One of my favorite tracks this week comes from a British production team featuring the vocals of 17 year old phenom Noah Cyrus, who's been featured on several singles as of late.  The tune is a straight up dance floor filler, for sure.  With funky beats and strong vocals, yeah this one gets me going.  Check out My Way...

Don't Slam the Door - Icona Pop

Who ever thought we'd hear from Swedish dup Icona Pop again after their 2012 smash I Love It.  Well they're back and with a completely different sound.  Contrary to the former tune, this one's a lot more mid-tempo and almost...almost a little country sounding, but it works!  Check out Don't Slam the Door for yourself...

Well that's all for this week in hot new music tracks.  As always, thanks for checking out New Music Fridays.  Stay tuned for more and in the meantime, check out some of this week's honorable mentions...

struggle - Tove Lo
Rabbit Hole - Forever In Your Mind
Talk to Me - Kiera Weathers
Mistakes - Basenji, Maidza

Song of the Day - Beautiful Trauma - P!nk

Image result for beautiful trauma

Oh sure, I go away for a few days and P!nk comes out with a new video for the title cut to beautiful Trauma.  Ah well, better late than never and besides, Ms. P!nk and costar Channing Tatum make a cute 1950's couple!  Who knew they could dance so well!  Check out Beautiful Trauma...

Song of the Day - Viva Las Vegas - Elvis Presley

Image result for viva las vegas

I am back and basking in the afterglow of an awesome trip, my first ever, to Las Vegas.  To celebrate, here's a song by "The King" that I remember fondly as a child.  It's the title track to the soundtrack of this super-groovy flick starring Elvis and the beautiful, Miss Ann-Margaret.  Check out Viva Las Vegas...

Song of the Day - Waking Up In Vegas - Katy Perry

Image result for las vegas

Okay, so I never really loved this song, but tomorrow morning, this is exactly what I'll be doing.  For the first time in my life, I am headed to Las Vegas, Nevada, and I couldn't be more excited.  Needless to say, I won't be making any Song of the Day posts until I return next Sunday, so for now, enjoy this one and I will check you on the other side...

Song of the Day - Move You - Kelly Clarkson

Image result for move you kelly clarkson

After a breathtaking performance of REM's Everybody Hurts with P!nk last night at the American Music Awards, I think it's time Kelly Clarkson deserves the spotlight this morning.  Here's an absolutely beautiful ballad from her latest album, Meaning of Life.  Take a look and a listen to the tender Move You...

New Music Fridays, November 17th, 2017 - The Week's Freshest New Tracks

Hello and welcome again to John's World's New Music Fridays.  Like every other week ,we've got some great stuff to share so let's get right to it...

Get It Right - Diplo, feat. MO

Diplo's new Get It Right is a brand new dancey collaboration with Danish singer MO.  The tune is from an upcoming documentary, Give Me Future, which is all about Diplo's historic shows in Cuba alongside Major Lazer.  Check out this very nice tune...

The Beautiful & Damned - G-Eazy, Zoe Nash

Maybe it's my age, but I really don't find a lot to like about today's hip hop or rap music, whatever it's called these days, but here's one I can sink my teeth into.  I know why, too.  It's not the rap part of this tune that makes me move when I listen, but the raspy vocals of one Ms. Zoe Nash, whose part gives the track a really nice groove.  Check out The Beautiful & Damned...

Pineapple Skies - Miguel

I am loving R&B artist Miguel.  It seems like whenever he puts out a new tune, I am posting it here.  His latest, Pineapple Skies is a groovalicious, easy breezy, soulful jam.  Check it out...

All Night - Steve Aoki, Lauren Jauregui

On the softer side of the dance music scene comes this very likable dance jam by superstar deejay/producer Steve Aoki, featuring sweet-voiced singer Lauren Jauregui.  Check out All Night...

Obsessed - Maggie Lindemann

You might remember singer Maggie Lindemann from her spot on The Vamps' Personal.  Well, she's got a brand new track that's both dance floor and radio friendly.  Check out Obsessed...

Well, these are my picks for the best new music tracks of the week.  Stay tuned for more New Music Fridays and in the meantime check out these honorable mentions...

Back in the USA - Green Day
HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON'T - Fall Out Boy
shedon'tknowbutsheknows - Tove Lo
Famous - Ivy Adara
Slow - Matoma, feat. Noah Cyrus

As always, thanks for checking us out!

Song of the Day - I Believe I'm Fine - Robin Schulz & Hugel

Image result for i believe i'm fine robin schulz

One of my favorite deejay/producers, Robin Schulz, has a brand new album out.  The record is called Uncovered and it has already spawned the hit singles Shed a Light, with David Guetta and Cheatcodes and OK, written by James Blunt.  Here's the latest, a collaboration with French artist Hugel, and it's the same kind of pleasing-to-the-ears dance vibe as you would expect from Robin.  Check out I Believe I'm Fine...

Janet Jackson's State of the World Tour - A Two-Plus Hour Lovefest

This wasn't supposed to happen, but it turned out to be one of those things that afterwards you couldn't imagine not happening.  You see, I used to be a huge fan of Janet Jackson, but over the past several years my devotion to her had faded.  God, I remember a time when I looked forward to new Janet as much as I looked forward to anything new from Madonna or P!nk, but sadly for me, and a lot of others, too, those feelings of excited anticipation had long since gone away.

I think maybe it was the famous nipple incident at the Super Bowl.  Not that I agreed with any of the sort of horror that marred that whole thing.  In fact, I thought it was ridiculous!  Nevertheless, Miss Jackson's star has never been the same since and that's a real shame.  She became somewhat shunned and as a result I never even gave her albums Damita Jo or 20 Y.O. a chance.  It wasn't until 2008's Discipline that I even lukewarmly paid attention to her again.

So late in 2015 Janet came out with her latest album, Unbreakable, and my friend Sean had me listening once again.  I agreed to go to her show supporting the record, which I liked but didn't love.  I hadn't seen Janet in concert since the 2001 All For You Tour, during which I actually got to meet her (and had a bad experience in the process!).  We bought the tickets and then she cancelled.  No bueno!

The Show

When the buzz about Janet's current State of the World Tour came around, my interest was definitely piqued, but not enough to buy a ticket.  Then my friend Gary, just a few weeks ago, asked if I wanted to join him to the Barclay's show.  He had an extra ticket.  Hell yeah!

As the day for the show came closer, I started to become more and more excited, but I didn't get really excited until Gary and I rushed in to our seats right as the show was starting...

Prejudice----------NO!
Ignorance-----------NO!
Bigotry------------NO!
Illiteracy----------NO!

Right from the get-go it was a love-fest!  After a typically big opening, Miss Janet appeared onstage to thousands of cheers and immediately broke into two classics, both from the Rhythm Nation album.  It was hard to find a decent recording of both The Knowledge and State of the World, but just to give you a taste, here's the former...

And so it began, a two-plus hour spectacle that enthralled nearly everyone in the building, including both myself and Gary.  The first hour or so before the show's first interlude was a veritable mànage of cherished hits from a very storied career.  For myself, and I am sure many others in the audience, this was a very pleasant trip down memory lane as Janet whipped through such standards such as Nasty, Miss You Much, Control, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Escapade, All For You, When I Think of You and Love Will Never Do (Without You).  Much to my delight she added tunes she probably hasn't performed in years, such cool stuff as The Pleasure Principle, Alright and You Want This.  Wow, talk about revved up!

The second part to the concert was full on slow and then sexy.  After an instrumental interlude of the beautiful Again (to which the entire audience sang.), Janet returned to the stage for some slow jams and some downright sexy goodness with such tunes as Where Are You Now, Come Back to Me, The Body That Loves You, Twenty Foreplay, Got Till It's Gone, That's the Way Love Goes, and Throb.  Before the next interlude, Janet wowed the audience by getting sentimental, as big brother Michael appeared on a huge screen behind her and she delved into the first verse of their hit Scream.  The sentimentality continued on Together Again, as the star of the evening gave an I miss you shout-out to MJ.  The crowd went absolutely wild!

Another short interlude came next before Janet came out to address one of her male dancers tied to a chair as she gently, then forcefully belted out an electrifying performance of What About Us.  The classics If and Rhythm Nation rounded out the set before Janet introduced the band members and dancers and exited the stage as the super-satisfied crowd begged for more.

The encore set was a little bit more of an exhalation than a big ending.  Miss Jackson performed Black Eagle and Well Traveled, from her recent Unbreakable album, and sandwiched in between came a call for a New Agenda, and a medley of Damn Baby/Get Lonely.  By the time all was said and done, Janet had given her audience what they had come for, and more.  The buzz from 18,000 satisfied fans continued out onto the hallways and into the streets afterwards.  As for Gary and I, well, we're still trading lyrics and singing songs three days later.

Song of the Day - Raingurl - yaeji

Today's song s one that I spotlighted on New Music Fridays a couple of weeks ago,  The artist is a Brooklyn-based deejay known as yaeji and the track is hypnotic and funky.  She just released the video for Raingurl and it's just as fun as the song.  Check it out...

Song of the Day - If - Janet Jackson

Image result for if janet jackson

Sometimes it takes a concert to rekindle some love.  I saw Janet Jackson last night at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn and oh man, it was a two-plus hour love fest down memory lane.  Admittedly I've strayed away from listening to Janet much over these past few years for whatever reason, and after last night's show, I am regretting it.  I had truly forgotten what a talent she is and always was.  So for the next few days I will be helping you rekindle some Miss Janet love as I relive last night's performance in my mind over and over again.  Here's one of y all time favorites, from her 1993 janet album.  Enjoy If...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Go Deep - Janet Jackson

Image result for go deep janet

Tonight I will be seeing Ms. Janet Jackson perform for third time in my life and I am officially excited!  The idea that today is Hump Day, too, fits in most perfectly with the State of the World show I'll be seeing later, as Janet has definitely had her share of sexy, humpy jams, including this one from the classic Velvet Rope album.  Here's Go Deep...

Song of the Day - Ain't Ready - Hoodie Allen

Image result for ain't ready hoodie allen

Do any of you remember this funky little rapper called Hoodie Allen?  He had a hit that I loved a couple of years ago with Dumb For You.  That song was pretty infectious and so is his new one.  Ain't Ready is of the same style as the former, trendy and catchy and pretty darned good.  Pretty cool that this indie rapper comes from Long Island, too!  Check out Ain't Ready...

New Music Fridays, November 10th, 2017 - Five Hot New Tracks

Hello and welcome once again to John's Music World's New Music Fridays.  Aside from the big release of Taylor Swift's Reputation, we've got some great new tracks for you to enjoy.  Check it out...

Walk On Water - Eminem, with Beyoncé

Surely one of the most talked-about new tunes of the week is this ballad featuring two of the most popular artists of our time.  The tune, featuring Bey on vocals at the chorus (I walk on water, but I ain't no Jesus) is a new direction for the 45 year old Em, who reflects on his own humanity.  The rapper premiered the track live at last night's MTV EMA's, and you can check out the vocal right here...

D.Y.T. (Do Your Thing) - NVDES, REMMI

In advance of their second offering, L.A.-based production group NVDES introduces this fast and funky jam.  Check out Do Your Thing...

Trouble In the Streets - BC Unidos, with Carly Rae Jepson

I love how Carly Rae Jepson has managed to stay relevant since her out of this world smash Call Me, Maybe.  The odds were definitely against her after that high-charting debut, and she hasn't exactly turned out to be a superstar, yet she hasn't really faltered either.  Her latest collaboration with Swedish production duo BC Unidos is a retro sounding, frenzied and fun ditty.  Check out Trouble In the Streets...

Small Talk - Fake Pictures, Tiger Park

Here's one of those songs that's hard to find much information on (not even an audio track), but it's definitely worth a spotlight.  This dance jam has a funky, bass-y sound that;s simply hella cool!  Check it out on Spotify.

Boa Me - Fuse ODG, Ed Sheeran, Mugeez

Ed Sheer an guest stars on this brand new calypso track by rapper Fuse ODG and it works!  Ceck out the ear-pleasing, easy breezy Boa Me...

Well there you have it, five hot new tracks for your listening pleasure.  As always, stay tuned to more new music from John's Music World.

Song of the Day - All Over Again - Todiefor, feat. Helen, Dazie

Image result for all over again todiefor

With all of the new songs I add to my Current playlist each week, it's sometimes hard to get to them all.  On Spotify, when you add a song to a playlist, it gets added at the very bottom, and if you don't remember to move it to the top, well...  Anyway, I've been cleaning out that playlist, putting more current tunes I've added towards the top and moving older stuff to other folders.  The result is I've been seeping new songs into my brain, some I've covered on New Music Fridays and others which I haven't, but saved anyway because I thought they had some value.  Here's one such tune.  I don't know much about the artist, but the song is awesome, soft at the verses and big and dancey at the chorus, just the way I like it.  Check out All Over Again...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Pose (Eva Shaw Mix) - Rihanna

Image result for pose rihanna eva shaw remix

To me, Hump Day is all about sexy.  Yeah, it's called such because of the fact that it is the middle day of the week and it's a hump we all wanna get over, but yeah, the connotations are obvious.  That being said, the one thing Ms. RiRi did not lose on her Anti album was her knack for sexy songs.  She's had some slow, sexy, saucy ones before, like Red Lipstick, Skin, Watch n Learn, etc., and here's a bonus track from Anti whose Eva Shaw Mix is downright sexy as heck.  Check out Pose...

Song of the Day - Faking It - Calvin Harris, feat. Kehlani, Lil Yachty

Image result for faking it calvin harris

Good morning and Happy Tuesday!  Here's a great new tune by superstar deejay/producer Calvin Harris, with a little help from sweet-voiced Kehlani and Lil Yachty.  This one starts off kind of slow, but soon segues into this funky lil, head bopping jam.  Love this one!  Check out Faking It...

It's Monday and we've got the whole week ahead of us....boo!  I think we should all pretend we've got a house party to go to tonight.  What do you think?  Here's a perfect little neo-disco jam I spotlighted a few weeks back that's perfect for the occasion.  Enjoy!

New Music Fridays, November 3rd, 2017 - The Week's Hottest New Tracks

Hello and welcome to John's Music World's New Music Fridays.  As you all know, my favorite genre of music, hands down, is dance music and there's a lot of new beats that hit the airwaves this week.  Check out the week's hottest new tracks...

Riding Shotgun - Kygo, feat. Oliver Nelson & Bonnie Mckee

Norwegian deejay/producer has just released his newest album, Kids In Love, and just ahead of it came this sweet tune that is very radio friendly.  Check out Riding Shotgun...

Dirty Sexy Money - David Guetta & Afrojack, featuring Charli XCX and French Montana

Superstar deejay/producer David Guetta is back with a really nice tune that hearkens back to some of the great tracks from his One Love and Nothing But the Beat records.  This time, Guetta is helped out by fellow producer Afrojack (...and some uncredited production from Skrillex.) and vocalists Charli XCX and French Montana, and the result is some good old-fashioned dance floor filler.  Check out Dirty Sexy Money...

Told You So - Miguel

R&B singer Miguel has been busy of late, dropping songs from his forthcoming album War & Leisure, and this, his latest, is a funky jam that brings to mind such funk music greats as Prince and Bruno Mars.  Check out the delightful Told You So...

raingurl - yaeji

I was instantly mesmerized by the hypnotic house beats of this late night jam.  The track is by Brooklyn-based singer yaeji, who Pitchfork calls "House Music's Most Exciting New Voice." Check out raingurl and find out why...

Something Bout Our Love - JONES

British singer/songwriter JONES has released one of my favorite tunes of the week.  Something Bout Our Love is a radio friendly tune that's very, very catchy.  Check it out...

Instruction - Jax Jones, feat. Demi Lovato, Stefflon Don, Mr. Eazi

This week has seen some really good dance music and this one is funky all the way through.  With big beats, sexy vocals and even a little bit of island flavor, this one's definitely a winner!  Check out Instruction...

So yeah, it's been a great week for new music with these selections, but there's more.  Check out these honorable mentions and as always, stay tuned for next week's New Music Fridays.

You and Me - Shallou
Santa's Coming for Us - Sia

Song of the Day - When I Was Young - MO

Image result for when i was young momomoyouth

Good morning and Happy Saturday!  Here's a song I highlighted on October 27th's New Music Fridays.  It's by an artist called either MO or MOMOMOYOUTH???  Hard to find much of her, and that's probably because it's not really an "O" in her name, but a foreign character to which I can't figure out how to post.  Either way, the song is very dancey, and in a Euro style.  Very cool and catchy track!  Check out When I Was Young...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - You're My One and Only (True Love) - Seduction

Image result for one and only true love seduction

Ever since I rediscovered Seduction's Heartbeat again over last weekend, I kept racking my brain to think of another song of theirs that I loved, and I remembered!  You're My One and Only (True Love) was one of the funkiest of tunes, with a great backbeat and vocals, and it featured a mini-rap, which was just starting to become a thing, somewhere in the middle.  Great classic tune!  Enjoy...

Song of the Day - Pumping Up Clouds - Urban Cone

Image result for pumping up clouds

Here's a song I should have posted a long, long time ago.  Pumping Up Clouds, by Swedish pop rock band Urban Cone, came out in July, right before I started posting my New Music Fridays feature.  I had saved it the week it came out, but as you can imagine, my Spotify Current playlist is jam-packed and so it got lost on me...until today.  Unfortunately, the band never did a video for the song, so the audio to the version I am talking about is right below, but they did perform it on a rooftop acoustically, so I am giving you the double treat of checking that out too.  I dare you not to love this catchy, very light-hearted tune.  Here's Pumping Up Clouds...

Now here's the live acoustic version...
