It's my last full day in the sunshine state and me and my pal are heading down to Miami, so what other song from the 90's would be more perfect?  Somewhere in between Fresh Prince and blockbuster movie icon, Will Smith had a quite successful, yet relatively short, period of making big hits and this one from 1998 samples the Whispers' And the Beat Goes On pretty nicely and was a pretty big hit for Mr. Smith.  Enjoy...

A very monumental era in black music history was the dawn of the rap age in the early to mid-1980's. It all began with the early and primitive sounds of the Sugar Hill Gang and went big time mainstream a couple of years later with the trio from Hollis, Queens known as Run DMC.  Before the genre morphed into hip-hop (some have returned to calling it rap these days), another fellow from Queens by the name of LL Cool J carried DMC's torch into the late 80's and beyond.  LL had a string of hits in those days and perhaps none cooler than this one, a slow, steady jam about, well, California life. I finally saw the Deadpool movie last night and all I will tell you is that if you like superhero movies (sorta!) that are full of exciting action, cool special effects  and lots and lots of belly laughs, then this one is a must see.  If you have already seen the movie, then you'll get my choice for today's song.  I sat there during the credits bopping and singing the whole way through  for the song's second appearance in the film. Love it!

Here's a hot, frenzied dance track where east meets west, as Jay Z joins forces with British-Indian deejay Panjabi MC for Mundian To Bach Ke, or Beware of the Boys.  The tune was originally recorded as a bhangra song by Punjabi artist Labh Janjua back in the 90's, mixed by Panjabi MC in 99, (along with a little help from Jay Z) and re-released to great success in 2002.  The jam cleverly samples the musical track to Busta Rhymes' infectious Fired Up with the quick-paced string signature of bhangra music and the results are, well, hot!  Check out Mundian To Bach Ke...
