Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Spark the Fire - Gwen Stefani

Finishing up this week of Current Faves is probably one of Gwen Stefani's worst performing songs. Spark the Fire came out in 2014 and was billed as part of Stefani's comeback, along with the more dramatic and serious Baby Don't Lie, after a long hiatus from making music.  Well, the song didn't fare well at all, barely cracking any charts anywhere, but hey, I like it.  It's kind of silly, but very reminiscent of some of her older stuff, especially Hollaback Girl.  So check out the fun Spark the Fire...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Let Me Blow Ya Mind - Eve, feat. Gwen Stefani


Gwen Stefani played Jones Beach in Wantagh last night and if I had only paid a little attention to the concert schedule I certainly would've gone.  Many of my FB friends went, as pictures and vids dotted my wall all last night and this morning.  Here's a video from 2001 with Gwen and female rap empressaria Eve on the now classic Let Me Blow Ya Mind...

I've been trying to catch up on Orange is the New Black and I'm towards the beginning of the third season. In fact the last episode I watched was that season's second episode, which featured an amusing scene in which Bennett and his army buddies do a little routine to this, the greatest cheerleader song since Toni Basil's Mickey.  I included that clip here, which you can check out below, but first, Gwen Stefani.  Happy Weekend!

Summer Jams Song of the Day - Spiderwebs - No Doubt


You know, summer jams aren't always about dance music in the club sense like I usually tend to gravitate towards.  No, there are other types of tunes that can be considered summer jams, like this one, No Doubt's classic 1995 smash Spiderwebs.  Gwen Stefani and company were all about the ska, descendant of  reggae, and so most ot their tunes fit right in with beaches and sunshine and warm weather.  So if you were around in the mid-nineties you're certainly going to remember this...
