Song of the Day - Let Me Down Slowly - Alec Benjamin, Alessia Cara

Image result for Let Me Down Slowly - Alec Benjamin, Alessia Cara

I first discovered young singer/songwriter Alec Benjamin about a year ago upon hearing his song, Boy In the Bubble.  I've kept tabs on his stuff ever since, but have never felt compelled to highlight him on a Song of the Day post...until now.  His latest, a reworking of a former (solo) song of his, now reworked to feature Alessia Cara, may just be the big hit this guy deserves.  Let Me Down Slowly is a catchy ballad featuring Benjamin's unique vocals paired with the lovely voice of Ms. Cara.  Nice tune!  Check it out...

New Music Fridays, June 15th, 2018 - Plenty of Great Stuff!

I knew within the first half-hour or so during my discovery of New Music Fridays on Spotify that this was going to be a special week.  There are so many great tunes in this week's crop of new music that I could have highlighted twenty of them.  Alas, most of the ones I really liked are indeed found within, either in music form or as an honorable mention.  Man this week's going to give me long periods of music pleasure!  Check it out...

Dance to This - Troye Sivan, Ariana Grande

One of the most exciting new tunes of the week comes in the form of a brand new collaboration by two of today's hottest stars, Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande.  With pulsating rhythms and soft, sensual vocals, this one's already on fire.  Check out Dance to This...

Bed - Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande appears as a vocalist on not one, but two new tunes by other artists this week, and both tunes are kind of on the softer side of things.  This one, from Minaj's upcoming Queen, is steamy and from the looks of it, the video is gonna be too.  Check out Bed...

Growing Pains - Alessia Cara

This new song by talented young Alessia Cara is our first new taste of what's to come from the singer's sophomore album, and by the sounds of it, it's going to be good. Check out Growing Pains...

I'm a Mess - Bebe Rexha

Brooklyn born singer Bebe Rexha has got a new tune out and it's drawing comparisons to Meredith Brooks' I'm a Bitch.  Check out the similarities between the songs on Billboard, and in the meantime check out I'm a Mess...

Let Me Live - Rudimental, Anne-Marie, Major Lazer, Mr. Eazi

This star-studded collaboration by Rudimental and Major Lazer has got a sweet, reggae-tinged sound and with Anne-Marie's vocals, this one's outta the park.  Check out Let Me Live...

Maria - Christina Aguilera

By far the best song I've heard so far from Christina's new record is this soulful piece of joy.  Check out the beautiful Maria...

Just My Type - The Vamps

It's really a shame that Brit band The Vamps don't get more attention here in the States.  They've got a pop sensibility that's really always spot on, with songs that are always catchy, always fun, including this new track.  Check out a live performance of Just My Type...

Blurry Eyes - Hotel Garuda, RUNN

Here's yet another song I couldn't resist spotlighting here.  You know I love dance music and this one is funky!  Check out Blurry Eyes...

As promised, here are plenty of other new tunes for you to check out.  They're all stellar in their own way.

Don't Sleep - Chromeo, French Montana, Stefflon Don
Superlove - Whethan, Oh Wonder
Rather Be - Malte Ebert
Train - Lil Halima
Ocean - Martin Garrix, Khalid
Make It Up (As I Go) - Mike Shinoda, K. Flay
Not Thinkin' Bout You - Ruel

Song of the Day - Here - Alessia Cara

Image result for here alessia cara

I had this one in my head all day yesterday and it's always worth another post.

I'm sorry if I seem uninterested
Or I'm not listenin', or I'm indifferent
Truly I ain't got no business here
But since my friends are here, I just came to kick it
But really I would rather be at home all by myself
Not in this room
With people who don't even care about my well-being
I don't dance, don't ask, I don't need a boyfriend
So you can, go back, please enjoy your party
I'll be here
Somewhere in the corner
Under clouds of marijuana
With this boy who's hollering
I can hardly hear
Over this music I don't listen to
And I don't wanna get with you
So tell my friends that I'll be over here

Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
Oh I ask myself, what am I doin' here?
Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
And I can't wait 'til we can break up out of here

Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this
An anti-social pessimist, but usually I don't mess with this
And I know you mean only the best
And your intentions aren't to bother me
But honestly I'd rather be
Somewhere with my people
We can kick it and just listen to
Some music with a message, like we usually do
And we'll discuss our big dreams
How we plan to take over the planet
So pardon my manners
I hope you'll understand that I'll be here
Not there in the kitchen
With the girl who's always gossiping about her friends
So tell them I'll be here
Right next to the boy who's throwin' up
Cause he can't take what's in his cup no more
Oh God why am I here?

Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
Oh I ask myself, what am I doin' here?
Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
And I can't wait 'til we can break up out of here

Hours later congregatin' next to the refrigerator
Some girl talkin' 'bout her haters, she ain't got none
How did it ever come to this? I shoulda never come to this
So holla at me, I'll be in the car when you're done
I'm stand-offish, don't want what you're offerin'
And I'm done talkin', awfully sad it had to be that way
So tell my people when they're ready that I'm ready
And I'm standin' by the TV with my beanie low
Yo I'll be over here

Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
Oh I ask myself, what am I doin' here?
Oh-oh-oh here, oh-oh-oh here
And I can't wait 'til we can break up out of here

Song of the Day - Lightning - The Wanted

Image result for lightning the wanted

The immensely talented Alessia Cara played Radio City Music Hall last night in NYC in what turned out to be a great show, not only from the headliner, but the two opening acts, as well.  Up and comers Nathan Sykes, formerly of The Wanted, and Canadian singer/songwriter Ruth B both gave inspired performances in warming up the crowd for Cara.  Being a fan of The Wanted, I couldn't help but want to post one of their tunes today in favor of one of Sykes' new tracks from his forthcoming debut solo album, Unfinished Business.  I will get to that soon, I promise, but in the meantime sentimentality takes over and herein I present one of my favorite Wanted songs...

Song of the Day - Wild - Troye Sivan, feat. Alessia Cara

Good morning and cheers to a brand new week.  Today, we've got a relatively new song by two of the day's most promising artists, young Aussie Troye Sivan and Canadian songstress Alessia Cara, in a reworking of a cut from Sivan's first debut EP, Blue Neighbourhood.  Wild was a great track the first time out, but here it's been totally re-imagined into an even more magical concoction with these two trading the lead with their immensely talented voices.  Check out Wild...

Song of the Day - Wild Things - Alessia Cara

A few weeks back I shared a song, Here, by Canadian phenom Alessia Cara, and in the time since I've grown to love her debut album, Know It All.  The record is full of quality songs, all of which work well while you're lounging on the beach, taking long drives in the car, entertaining guests, or just chilling at home.  The music is decidedly pop, with a lot of rhythm and blues thrown in, and Cara's voice is just, well, heavenly.  Check out her second single, Wild Things...

Song of the Day - Here - Alessia Cara

A few weeks back my friend Jim told me that he'd been obsessed with this new singer named Alessia Cara.  Well it took me a little bit, but I finally checked her out and I am liking what I am hearing. This song, Here, is the debut single off her very first album, Know-It-All, and it's very R&B, very hip, and pretty darned cool! She sort of reminds me a little of Norah Jones.  Check it out...
