Song of the Day - City of Sound - Big Wild

A couple of months ago I posted a new song by a dance artist known as Big Wild.  I said back then that I'd be keeping an ear out for more from this guy, and I have.  Here's another retro throwback with a little neo-disco feel.  Check out City of Sound...

Song of the Day - Sunflower - Vampire Weekend, feat. Steve Lacy

I'm not really sure whether I'd ever even heard of Vampire Weekend earlier than like a month ago, but they're one of my newest favorite acts.  Just a coupe of weeks back I posted their great Harmony Hall, and now this newer song's gaining quite the buzz.  Check out the smooth, cool Sunflower...

Song of the Day - Go Baby Go - Beth Ditto

It's so funny how things work sometimes.  It was last summer that I first discovered the very cool Beth Ditto, who had just released her first solo album, Fake Sugar.  The former lead singer of the dance-punk band Gossip incorporated a lot of different genres into this work and the hip, retro sounds of In and Out got me hooked on first listen.  After hearing it yesterday morning I had decided I was going to revisit that one, but then I had a spontaneous dinner with my pal Sonny and she had this one on her playlist in the car.  Go Baby Go is another one of those funkdified, head bopping tunes that'll get ya moving every time.  Too bad there isn't a vid for this one, so you're just going to have to settle for the audio of Go Baby Go...

Song of the Day - In & Out - Beth DItto

I have a new favorite song!  After reviewing this past week's new releases and sharing my five best in my new New Music Fridays post, there was one song that stood out from all the rest.  It's rare that I like a song so much, so quickly, but it happens, and with Beth Ditto's In & Out, all I can say is woof! The song is undeniably retro and undeniably head bopping, finger snapping and hypnotic.  Her voice is so rich and the beats...well, they're what give the song its overall feel.  This should definitely be heard, so...

Song of the Day - Ex's and Oh's - Elle King

Though this song's been around for awhile, I just caught wind of this hip, rockabilly jam that's a logically retro contemporary of Miss Meghan Trainor, only slightly less campy and a lil more rock. Btw, love the video...

Song of the Day - Goodbye - Who Is Fancy

Here's a recent discovery by an artist with a strange stage name.  Jake Hagood, of Bentonville, Arkansas, goes by the name of Who Is Fancy, and he may be a lil fancy, I guess, but that's not why I like this song.  This, the young singers debut and only single to date, has a smooth, retro rhythm and blues feel and I have to say the kid's got a nice, soulful voice.  The song peaked at #29 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart over the summer and I'm thinking you should check it out...
