Much better! After last week's less than stellar round of new music releases, this first Friday in March had me saving tunes all over the place. I saved many tracks this week, and the mix of songs runs the gamut from sweet ballads to rap gems to funky beats and everything in between. To top it off, as I ran through them a second and third time in preparing this post, all of the pieces fell into place, with five tunes worthy of spotlight and several honorable mentions, and even the ones that don't make either cut here I am looking forward to getting to know. Check out this week's hot tunes:
It was just about two years ago that I discovered MNEK and his amazing neo-freestyle jam, More Than a Miracle. Ever since then I've kept my eye out for new stuff from this mysterious singer, and though I've seen one or two in the time since, I haven't found anything that quite captured the magic of that song. Well, the British singer has got a brand new track from hjis forthcoming debut solo set and though it's not quite the as good as the previous jam, it is good enough to warrant your attention. Tongue shows of the multiple talents of MNEK, with R&B and rap vocals and combines it with a clicky dance beat that's just, well, groovalicious! Check out Tongue...
Good Vibes - ALMA, Tove Styrke
Finnish pop star ALMA has dropped a six-song mixtape called Heavy Rules, and this hot track from the record features the talents of Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Styrke. The tune is pure pop pleasure and it surely deserves to be heard. Check out the track on YouTube or the entire mixtape below:
No Excuses - Meghan Trainor
There's no doubt that Meghan Trainor has got a knack for writing and performing catchy catchy pop songs, and this debut single off her forthcoming third album is more of the same sassy stuff we've become accustomed to from the popstress. Check out No Excuses...
Beautiful - What So Not, Winona Clark
I'm not sure if it's the name of the song or the artist, but this one was hard to find on the Internet! Nevertheless, we've got a great, middle of the night dance floor jam on our hands here. Beautiful has got nice ethereal vocals set to some slamming beats. Check out Beautiful...
War Paint - Frankie Simone
Brash and open Portland-based, and lesbian, singer Frankie Simone has put out an immediately likable tune that reminds me a lot of an old Adam and the Ants tune combined with some other 80's new wavy pop. The chant is catchy and the drumbeats catchier and yeah, the video is pretty hard not to watch, too! Check out War Paint...
Good stuff, for sure! As promised, here are this week's honorable mentions, all worth checking out:
Black Car - Miriam Bryant
Need You - Flight Facilities, NIKA
Run - TV Noise, Drew Love
Pum Pum - Messiah, Kap G, Play-N-Skillz
Put Me Back Together - Cheat Codes, Kiiara
Powerglide - Rae Sremmurd, Juicy J
Magic - Rudy Mancuso, Maia Mitchell
Dancer - Flo Rida
