I caught the Super Bowl Halftime Show a day late and despite all of the hullabaloo, I quite enjoyed it. I forgot how much I love Shakira! Here's one of my favorites...
I was listening to Shakira yesterday and knew I would play one of her songs today because they're all fiery and well-suited for Hump Day. This one, sung in Spanish, is one of my favorite songs of hers. It blends her own unique Colombiana-style with a hot hot Middle Eastern one and the results are, pardon the pun, hip-shakingly wonderful. Here's Ojos Asi (Eyes Like Yours)...
Greetings from Albany, New York. I am currently chaperoning a group of Hispanic students from Long Island who are attending the Annual Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute, a wonderful program founded by Angelo De Toro, New York State's first Latino representative in New York State government. Every year, Hispanic students from all over New York get together for a weekend of leadership activities designed to help these kids learn to be leaders of tomorrow. The theme of this year's conference is social activism through art and the kids did an awesome job last night on their own artistic expressions, which brings me to Shakira's Waka Waka. Some of the performances that the students wrote and performed reminded me of this song and video. Check out Waka Waka...
I heard this classic duet the other night at Posh Bar in New York City and ooh, I immediately remembered how good it was...one of my favorite Spanish language songs ever! Here's an awesome live performance of the sultry, yet sad song featuring two legends. Check out La Tortura...
One of my favorite songs of all time reached a huge milestone the other day, and I mean huge. On Monday, Shakira's theme song for the 2010 World Cup, Waka Waka, reached the exclusive milestone of one billion page views on YouTube, putting the Colombian singer in company with Adele's Hello, Psy's Gangnam Style, Justin Bieber's Baby, and Wiz Khalifa's See You Again (The Citizen). The uplifting and fun song brings me back to my Saturday nights at Splash a few years back, and so this news gets a resounding YES from me. Check out Waka Waka...
Here's a great summer jam for your Wednesday. I remember this one from my days at Splash...such a happy song! Oh so danceable, too! Here's Shakira's Waka Waka...
