Today's song is classic Elton John and this particular performance, with full orchestra at the Royal Opera House is pretty darned moving. I am heading to Philly today for the weekend and it'll be my first time since I was about 15 years old, I have no idea what will come of the next couple of days, but it should be pretty cool. In the meantime, check out Philadelphia Freedom...
There's a fresh new crop of young musical artists that have been putting out quality stuff of late. With a pretty abysmal new music scene over the past few months, Alessia Cara, Troye Sivan and Shawn Mendes have been three bright spots, putting out some really good stuff. Here we have Mendes' lead single of his second album, Illuminate, and both the 17 year-old singer tackles the very adult topic of abusive relationships in a meaningful way. Check out Treat You Better...
Here's a funky summer jam from only a couple of years past. It's deejay/producer Steve Aoki with fellow dance producers Chris Lake and Tujamo on a track called Delirious. I don't know why, but I absolutely love the voice of Kid Ink on this one! Check it out...
Many of you may not know the music of INNA, unless you've checked her out on here before. She is one hot Romanian singer and her music is very summer jam-my! Here's a classic of hers that first turned me on to her sound. Check out the funky Left Right...
Reggae music is at the very essence of many a summer jam. Hearkening back to warm island breezes, the beach, dancing on the sand, reggae sounds are often used in all kinds of music, and French deejay/producer Bob Sinclair is very adept at blending reggae sounds with dance beats to create some pretty uplifting summer jams. Here's a Bob Sinclair tune from 2007 that effectively samples Rozalla's Everybody's Free (to Feel Good). Check outthe fast and frenzied Sound of Freedom...
Alternative band twenty one pilots is back with a very hot track that conjures up a genre that seemed like it was gone forever. Ride is a modern day ska track and a perfect song for those hazy, lazy days of summer. Enjoy!
Major Lazer and Justin Bieber are two of the biggest acts on the dance music scene and just yesterday they released this collaboration that is a smooth, grooving track that has already become and instant hit. Check out Cold Water...
Gwen Stefani played Jones Beach in Wantagh last night and if I had only paid a little attention to the concert schedule I certainly would've gone. Many of my FB friends went, as pictures and vids dotted my wall all last night and this morning. Here's a video from 2001 with Gwen and female rap empressaria Eve on the now classic Let Me Blow Ya Mind...
Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo is one of my favorite artists of the genre, and here's an early hit of his which can be found on his debut album Cloud Nine. I absolutely love the voice of Parson James on the record and I love the spaceman in the video, too! Check it out...
Today's Song of the Day is a newly discovered track by Illinois-based singer Kiiara, and it is one unique track. Gold, Kiiara's first single off of her debut EP, Low Kii Savage, has been described as an electrifying mix of Scandanavian electropop and Atlanta trap. Sounds pretty exotic, huh? I don't even know if I'd recognize either of those two genres of music if I heard them, but all I know is that this song has a very unique, trippy, atmospheric sound that definitely qualifies as ear candy. So if you like to experiment your earbuds with new, cool sounds, then check out Gold right here...
I mentioned this song the other night, as it samples Kaoma's Lambada, but in such a unique and steamy way. Back in 2011, when J-Lo's On the Floor came out, it was the beginning of the singer's renaissance after a long hiatus from the music scene. With a little help from at that time one of the hottest new artists of the day, a rapper by the name of Pitbull, this one soared to the top and smoked up dance floors everywhere. It's the kind of song that still gets em' going and is a perfect summer jam for the day...
Our new music weekend continues with a long-awaited new song from Britney Spears. It's been quite awhile since Ms. Britney has made any kind of a splash on the music scene. Her previous effort, Britney Jean, didn't really make much noise outside of the circle of her devoted fan base, and Femme Fatale, my personal favorite Britney album, is a whopping five years old already. This new tune has already received a lot of buzz since its release on Friday, and to me it's a surprisingly mid-tempo tune (I would have expected a more energetic dance record) that's pretty darned memorable. It's got a great melody and is pretty easy to keep it in your head long after a listen. Check out Make Me for yourself...
After what's been quite a dull summer so far for new music, it looks like things are finaly starting to heat up. With new stuff on the way from Fergie, Britney Spears, Gaga (?), and now Katy Perry, things are finally starting to heat up a little. Katy's new song, Rise, will be the theme song to NBC's coverage of the upcoming Summer Olympics and the song is vintage Perry, inspirational and uplifting...a perfect match for the occasion. The video, which was released along with the tune yesterday, is a montage of memorable Olympic moments from the past, and is a great way to get pumped up for the event if that's something you like to follow. So without further adieu, here's Katy Perry's Rise...
With rumors spreading around of new Gaga music, finally, I thought I'd post a classic. In what at the time seemed like an unlikely collaboration, this one, both the video and the tune, worked! Oh I love when Bey feeds Gaga the hero in the car. Hysterical! Happy Friday...
One of the hottest songs of the summer is Drake's One Love. So silky smooth and it reminds me of one of those hot summer nights down on the beach with the one you love. Yeah! Check out a nice performance of the song from SNL back in May...
The other night I was in a club and Jennifer Lopez' hot summer jam On the Floor came on the loudspeakers, and as it did my pal Ken uttered the word Lambada. Though I knew exactly what he was talking about, I had seemed to have completely forgotten that she masterfully sampled and sped up the music from the original Lambada in her hit. I got to thinking that I haven't heard that one in ages, and so thus, here it is. Though I do love J-Lo's tune, I love this one just as much. Released in 1989, this musical accompaniment to the dance of the same name is melodious and fun, and I love the voice of the singer and the fact that it's sung in Portuguese. So if you were around back then, and perhaps even saw the movie, come and re-live a fond memory with me as you listen to Lambada...
Good morning and cheers to a brand new week. Today, we've got a relatively new song by two of the day's most promising artists, young Aussie Troye Sivan and Canadian songstress Alessia Cara, in a reworking of a cut from Sivan's first debut EP, Blue Neighbourhood. Wild was a great track the first time out, but here it's been totally re-imagined into an even more magical concoction with these two trading the lead with their immensely talented voices. Check out Wild...
Over the years there have been several little mini-waves of Euro dance music to hit the charts here in the United States and Italian singer Ingrid's You Promised Me was always one of my favorites. With a steady, pulsating beat accompanied by the accordion and the singers accented English vocals, this one sort of makes you feel like you're in a piazza in Rome dancing up a storm with a beautiful lady. Anyway, check out You Promised Me and then go out and have a great Friday...
Going on vacation for a couple of days, so that's it till Monday! Enjoy the weekend!
It's gonna be a scorcher out there for the next couple of days, at least, sand here's a scorching hot track to match the heat...a lil disco, a lil rap, and a whole lotta dancing! Enjoy...
If you haven't heard by now, Rihanna just dropped a new song and video the other day. Sledgehammer is a dramatic power ballad, co-written with Sia and Jesse Shatkin, featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming Star Trek Beyond movie. The song is surely one of the singer's best in recent memory, so check it out...
Happy 4th of July! The other night I was at the Pines on Fire Island with my pals Blanche and Dita and we were having a good old time dancing it up at the Pavillion and then this song came on. It's been a long, long time since I'd heard it, and all three of us were belting out the lyrics at the tops of our lungs as if we'd just heard it the day before. Great song! Fits the day. Enjoy...
With the holiday weekend in full swing, it's a great time for our first Summer Jam Song of the Day. Summer jams, to me, are the perfect kinds of songs for dancing your a** off outside somewhere, by the beach or in a backyard and just having the time of your life. I am in Heaven when I get to do this, and I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity last night ...complete bliss! Ida Corr and Fedde Le Grand's Let Me Think About It is the ultimate summer dance jam and all those hot chicks in the video with the horny horns and the strummin' guitars....so cool and so hot! Check it out...
It's a beautiful day to start the holiday weekend and it deserves a truly beautiful song. I don't think I know anybody who doesn't love Clean Bandit's Rather Be. It's such a soothing song with a beautiful melody and of course, Jess Glynne's rich voice. Check out Rather Be and then go on out and have an awesome day...
Happy July to all! I've been listening to a playlist of mine full of my all time favorite songs and when this one came up I was singing at the top of my lungs. It's been awhile since I posted anything Katy...I believe she is due for something new. We shall see, but in the meantime enjoy Hot N Cold...
