What a pleasant surprise we had this week when Lady Gaga put out a new single ahead of an upcoming album.  Stupid Love is vintage Gaga and I couldn't be happier that she's back. I'm already hearing comparisons to Born This Way and I can see that, and I do hope the new album will be more of the same.  We'll just have to wait and see.  In the meantime, check out Stupid Love...

Gaga killed it last night!  In the midst of what turned out to be a very exciting football game, one Ms. Lady Gaga took center stage to dazzle the masses in one hell of a Super Bowl Halftime Show that has got to be one of the best ever.  Looking, and sounding, flawless, Gaga began with an nice homage to this great country of ours and followed suit with a thirteen-plus minute set full of her greatest hits, along with some aerial stunt work, plenty of dancers and lots and lots of drones in the resounding climactic finale of this, one of her best tunes...

It's Super Bowl Sunday, and for many of us who couldn't really care less about the game itself, at least we've got the Halftime Show.  Oh yes, halftime! (And the commercials, of course!)  In the past few years, the NFL has moved towards more the big name dance/pop entertainers, musical icons of our time, to light u the stage.  Acts like Prince, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Katy Perry, and others have wowed audiences worldwide with spectacular mini-concerts. Well this year it's Lady Gaga who'll be getting her turn at one of the most watched musical events of the year and I can't wait to see how she does.  In the meantime, here's one of her earliest, and funkiest, hits.  No, can't read my Poker Face...

Song of the Day - A-YO - Lady Gaga

Here's the latest song to be released from Gaga's Joanne, due out tomorrow, and it's an upbeat and catchy, country-twinged song.  She actually tweeted it to EDM hitmakers The Chainsmokers on Tuesday in response to a comment by the duo's Alex Pall, who had said in an interview that Gaga's first single from the album, Perfect Illusion, "well, sucks."

Song of the Day of the Day - Perfect Illusion - Lady Gaga

Let me preface this Song of the Day post by saying that I am usually a little over-critical of those artists whom I love the most.  That being said, we have finally become privy to the newest incarnation of one Lady Gaga, a multi-talented superstar who once seemed destined to claim the seat that Madonna created for women in pop.  I say 'once seemed' because both Gaga's music and its performance on the charts (and on my iPod), has never quite reached the height again that it enjoyed during the days of Fame/Fame Monster.  Born This Way, her last great record, was a departure from that early stuff, a successful 'reinvention' that would rival that of the early days of the Queen.

So in the year 2016, we are finally being treated to the follow-up to the lackluster ArtPop, though it must be noted that Gaga has flexed her talented muscles in other ways since with acting stints in American Horror Story, genuinely great recordings of classics with legendary crooner Tony Bennett, and impressive live performances.  There is no doubt that Lady Gaga is a gifted performer.   

What I've heard, and now seen, from this newest lead in to her first pop album in three years, is good, not great.  This lead single from the new album Joanne, called Perfect Illusion seems an attempt to return to the glory days of her first two sets. and surely it will grow on me and others,  The song's got a nice, percussive beat throughout and is as big sounding as anything she's ever done.  But is it fresh? I guess time will tell as I listen to it the rest of Joanne (due out October 21st) more.  Although right now I am liking the song, I'm not loving it, nor am I loving the sort of bland, desert/concert-themed video which was released just Tuesday night.  

Applause turned out to be the most successful song on ArtPop, and I hope that this won't be the case with Perfect Illusion and Joanne.  We shall see.  You see, I told you I was a little extra-critical of those I love.  Check out Perfect Illusion...

New Stuff from Gaga, Britney, Katy and P!nk Coming Soon!

After a spring and summer with not much excitement going on in the music world, it looks like fall will be a time to get down.  Four iconic pop/dance divas have all announced plans to release brand new albums, and this blogger couldn't be more excited.  Katy Perry, Britney Spears, P!nk and now Lady Gaga have all been stirring from long slumbers to reawaken our senses with some brand new stuff. Here's the scoop:

Ga - Ga- Oh La La

Of all the announcements made over the past few weeks, none is as welcome as Lady Gaga's unofficial announcement via Instagram yesterday that she'll be releasing a new single, Perfect Illusion.  It's been a long, long time since Gaga has put out anything her Little Monsters could sink their teeth into, Her last pop record, 2013's ARTPOP, was lackluster in comparison to her previous efforts, though there were some bright spots on that album.  In between, Gaga's been busy with other projects, getting her acting on in FX's American Horror Story (the new season, starring Gaga premieres September 14th) and showed her vocal range on an album of standards, called Cheek to Cheek, with the legendary Tony Bennett.

It'll be interesting to see where she goes with this new project.  All that is known so far about the new project is that she's worked with celebrated producers Mark Ronson, BloodPop, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Giorgio Moroder, RedOne, Diane Warren, and Nile Rodgers,  The album is said to be a mix of "classic music and futuristic music" and is partially inspired by the singer's time on AHS.  For whatever it's worth, I am so looking forward to this one!  Perfect Illusion is to be released sometime in September and the album, dubbed LG5, should be out soon after.  Read more below:

Perry Rises Again

This coming October/November, we will be treated to the newest set from Kay Perry. The record will be her first since 2013's stellar Prism album.  Though the singer put out a new song, Rise, for the Olympics, don't expect too many Firework-type anthems like this one on the new set.  The singer told 97.1 Amp Radio that she's doing a lot of experimenting and taking chances this time around.  That's welcome news indeed, as I felt she did some of that to great success on Prism and I am looking forward to hearing new stuff dishing on her tiff with Taylor Swift and relationship with Orlando Bloom.  We shall see.  Take a closer look into Katy Perrys new album below:

You Better Work B**tch

Fans of Britney Spears, like this blogger, are already jumping for joy at the prospect of a new album. Her last record, Britney Jean, can be classified as lackluster at best, especially following the energetic and delicious Femme Fatale record.  Well, after the release of a mid-tempo gem called Make Me, the sultry vixen has been teasing us with new tracks from her upcoming Glory record and they're kinda sorta all over the map.  Private Show is another mid tempo-ey pop song, while Clumsy is vintage Britney dance floor sugar, and the latest glimpse into Glory, Do You Wanna Comer Over, is culled a new anthem to the catchphrase Netflix and Chill.  The singer is set to perform at MTV's VMA's for the first time in ten years at Madison Square Garden in New York this Sunday and Glory drops...tomorrow.  Yes!  Here's Make Over...

Glory Glory Hallelujah - P!nk Returns

Last, but certainly not least, after a four-year hiatus since the release of one of my all-time favorite albums, The Truth About Love, P!nk is said to be releasing a set of new material sometime in November.  Very little is out there on the record, and I'll bet the singer/songwriter is under a lot of pressure to match the greatness of the last album, but this is the one I am looking forward to the most. I can't wait!  Stay tuned...

It's been awhile since I've posted anything Gaga, and being that she's got a lot of things coming up I figured now would be a good time to post a tune.  First of all, the AHS actress will be singing the national anthem at tomorrow night's Super Bowl.  Then, the singer will be receiving the very prestigious Jane Ortner Award from the Grammy Museum for her dedication to education in the arts. You go Gaga!

It seems like forever since she released her last true Gaga album, ARTPOP, but I'm hearing that a new Gaga record is on the way for 2016.  Fingers crossed.  In the meantime, it's Saturday and a good time for a great dance song.  ScheiBe, from the Born This Way album, was never a pop hit, but a definite fan favorite.  The nonsensical German lyrics, electronic beats and a killer hook give this one the most unique of sounds and is one of my personal favorite Gaga tunes.  Check out a live version (with spotty audio) and the original audio version below if you like.  Enjoy and Happy Saturday!
