New Music Fridays, May 25th, 2018
Other than the release of Shawn Mendes' new album. this week's crop of new music is mostly from artists not usually found on this posting. I only chose four songs to share, but there are lots of honorable mentions below, so check it out...
The big story of the week is the release of Shawn Mendes' eponymous third studio album, and I would think that anyone who pays attention to pop music would say that the young impresario is firing on all cylinders. Yes, Mr. Mendes has the keenest of sensibilities when it comes to creating songs with universal appeal, and the album will not disappoint. One of my favorites from the new set is this catchy and cute song about, well, being nervous at meeting somebody new. Check out Nervous...
Bracelet - Lauv
Now I've had my eye, and ear, on American singer Lauv ever since he provided guest vocals on DJ Snake's A Different Way. He's been releasing a few songs lately, all of which I've sadly neglected to share, and his newest, Bracelet, shows exactly why you should check him out. Have a listen...

Hello and welcome back to New Music Fridays, a weekly look at some of the best in new music releases of the week. As always, we've got some nice pop sensations and tasty beats to whet your musical whistle, so without further adieu...
Girls - Rita Ora, Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX, Cardi B
One of the most talked-about songs of the week is this one by Rita Ora, featuring Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX and Cardi B. First of all, musically the song is catchy and pleasing, and of course the bisexual themes are going to be controversial. Singer Hayley Kiyoko, who put out her own song about bisexual issues, spoke out against the song as being one that works to fuel the male gaze while marginalizing the idea of women loving women. Perhaps! Ora addressed the criticism here, and in the meantime here's Girls...

Stay Open - Diplo, MO
Diplo released two new songs this week, one with Sia and Labrinth, and this one with Danish singer MO (one of these days I'll learn to get that "O" right!). Though they're both nice tunes, I tend to find this one a little more pleasing. Stay Open has got a nice sound to it, nice bright beats and very dancey. Check it out...
Bad Decision - Chromeo
Canadian duo Chromeo brings us a funky, neo-disco jam that's instantly likable, Check out Bad Decision...

Song of the Day - Controller - Channel Tres

Song of the Day - All or Nothing - Naughty Boy, Ray BLK, Wyclef Jean
U.K. producer Naughty Boy doesn't get a lot of attention here in the States, but he certainly should. I mean, he's worked with some big names like Beyoncé, Sam Smith, Emile Sandé and more, but never really grinded out a big hit on his own here. Well, I thought I'd give him a lil boost here with this reggae-infused jam featuring Ray BLK and Wyclef. Very cool! Check out All or Nothing...

Song of the Day - This Is America - Childish Gambino
Warning: Explicit content contained in the video for today's Song of the Day.
Mesmerizing. Disturbing. Violent. Beautiful. Tragic. Chaotic. Powerful. Surreal. Genius. Artistic. Truth. Unsettling.
These are just a few of the words used to describe Childish Gambino's instant smash and very talked-about new track, This Is America. All of these adjectives are absolutely spot on, and that's not even mentioning the cool dance moves! Check out This Is America...

New Music Fridays, May 3rd, 2018 - New Stuff From X-Tina, Shawn Mendes, Troye Sivan and More
Where last week's New Music Fridays was jam packed with great new stuff from relatively new artists, we find new gems from tried and true artists this week, including the return of Christina Aguilera, some youthful infusion from Shawn Mendes, Khalid and Troye Sivan, and much much more. Check it out...
Shawn Mendes has an eponymous album, his third, coming out later this month and the songs he's been putting out thus far have shown a natural progression towards pop music perfection. Such is the case with his newest, a collaboration with fellow crooner Khalid. The song features dueling vocals blended perfectly together in what just may become one of the hottest hits of the year. Check out Youth...
The Way I Am - Charlie Puth
Charlie Puth keeps his string of hot releases going with this pleasingly upbeat, yet introspective tune. Check out The Way I Am...
I'll Be There - Jess Glynne
I am loving Jess Glynne. Who would have thought that she'd come back from her guest vocal on Clean Bandit's monumental Rather Be right to her own solo debut and the great success of Hold My Hand? Well, with a spot on Rudimental's These Days, the British singer has surely established herself as a force in the music world. Now Glynne is back with yet another inspirational gem that's sure to be on my playlist for some time to come. Check out I'll Be There...
Accelerate - Christina Aguilera, with Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz
One of the most talked-about songs of the week is Christina Aguilera's first new song in five years. Earlier in the week, Ms. X-Tina announced the release of her sixth studio album, Liberation, coming out in June, and the buzz among her fans, including me, is well, we're excited. The new song features rappers Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz and is a quick-moving, rap-infused song that I'm thinking I need to listen to more to get into. By the way, the tune is also reportedly produced by Kanye West, in case you might be wondering. Check out Variety for more on the album and check out Accelerate right here...
Bloom - Troye Sivan
Troye Sivan adds to three the number of pre-released songs ahead of his next studio album. Whereas the somber reflection of The Good Side hearkens to reflections from a past life, Bloom continues where My My My left off, finding Sivan in a blissful place in his life, singing about life and love and well, just being happy. Check out the cool lyric video for Bloom here...
Well I could seriously go on and on and on. Lots of honorable mentions here, even the return of Guns n Roses, which I actually thought about highlighting. Check out some more really good stuff...
Move to Miami - Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull
Genius - Sia, Diplo, Labrinth
Jump - Julia Michaels, Trippie Redd
Shadow of Your Love - Guns N Roses
Hunger - Florence + the Machine
Run Wild - Thutmose, NoMBe
Hold On Tight - R3HAB, Conor Maynard
Energy - Jean Deaux, ROMderful
MJ - Now Now
So Rude - ORKID
Song of the Day - Sunshine (The Knocks Remix) - Powers
Sunshine is gonna come now, rain down
All over you
Good times are gonna come now, look 'round
Baby it's true
Sunshine is gonna come now, rain down
All over you
Good times are gonna come now, look 'round
Baby it's true
Nine years today. As they say, time has a way of making hurt go away, and the pain felt in my family in these nine years since my dad passed away has surely dissipated. That doesn't mean we haven't forgotten, though. The void that has existed in my family since his passing still exists, and we live with it. We have to.
Solemn anniversaries such as this give us time to pause and to remember, and reflect, which is something my brother and sisters and my mom will all be doing today. Remembering my dad's life, all of the good times and the bad, too. I love to listen to the types of ethereal and inspirational songs in times like these. They help me to reflect in a clearer way. I'm not so sure if my dad had such sunshiney days as the ones promised in the Powers' song, but I hope the sunshine he did experience in his life was realized. Happy 9th Anniversary in Heaven dad!

Song of the Day - Over and Over and Over - Jack White
This is not the type of song I usually post, but I've been wanting to ever since I mentioned it on last week's New Music Fridays. First of all the song's got a hard driving rock edge...not something I usually get into, but this one's so infectious. On the other hand, it kinda sorta has these operatic overtures which hearken old Queen or even Rocky Horror. It's definitely a unique jam so check out Over and Over and Over...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Makin' It - David Naughton
Today's song is one which I haven't heard in years, but for whatever reason I woke up with it in my head and deemed it worthy for Flashback Friday. The singer is David Naughton, who was primarily an actor best known for his starring role in John Landis' 1981 classic American Werewolf in London. Makin' It was Naughton's one and only foray into recorded music and the 1979 hokey disco tune reched #5 on Billboard's Hot 100. So for what it's worth, check out Makin' It...

Song of the Day - I Wonder - Ida Corr
I mentioned yesterday that I'd be posting a new song by Let me Think About It artist Ida Corr. The song's called I Wonder and it's not at all like that song, powerful and dancey, but it's got a definite groove and a catchy chorus. Check it out...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Let Me Think About It - Ida Corr, Fedde Le Grand
I was going to post a brand new song by singer Ida Corr, but then I remembered it was Hump Day and I thought I'd get it on with this sexy hot jam and save that one for tomorrow. Here's one of the best dance tunes ever made...Happy Hump Day!

Song of the Day - What Kind Of Love - TOMI
Brooklyn-based singer Tomi has got a brand new EP out and the title cut reminds me of an 80's power anthem, very catchy and fun. Check out What Kind of Love...
