Hello and welcome to an abbreviated version of New Music Fridays, something that I'm afraid you might be seeing a lot of for awhile as I make a big move personally over the next several weeks. So that's all she wrote for the week folks. Lots of good stuff, so be sure to check some of these new music tunes out and then stay tuned for more next week.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...Here's a silly lil ole Spanglish song by that kooky, but talented disc jockey/producer Dillon Francis with the help of Colombian pop singer Lao Ra. Check out White Boi...
We round out our weekend celebration of Robyn with another track from her 2004 self-titled album. Konichiwa Bitches is a silly tune and the video matches that silliness, but it's the hypnotic beats and lyrics that make you come back for more. Check out Konichiwa Bitches...
The second single and title track from Robyn's newest masterpiece is a late-night chill vibe at its sweetest. Kick back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of Honey...
There are just certain artists that I just connect with on such a deep level...their songwriting, their music, their just, well everything, and Robyn is one of those artists. Robyn ranks right up there with Madonna and P!nk for me and today is a very special day for Robyn releases her newest album, Honey, her first since 2010's incredible Body Talkseries. This is a huge deal!
I've already read two reviews of the new record and they were both stellar and I can't wait to get my ears all over them sometime later today myself. So far, though, I love what I know, the vintage Missing U and the ethereal Honey. Stay tuned for a review of this one.
In the meantime, expect a few Robyn ditties over the next couple of days to celebrate the artist that's been gone too long. Here's a song that meant a lot to me at one time. Like many of the songs on Body Talk, this one from her previous set, Robyn, helped tell the story of a deeply heartfelt period in my life as if she were witness. The melancholic With Every Heartbeat helped me to get to the end of that painful period, and the song will always be special to me. Check it out...
Ciara's got a hot new song, complete with marching band drums and brass, and she just filmed a pep rally in her hometown of Atlanta to celebrate. Check out Dose...
Since Cher Lloyd is back with a brand new song, None of My Business, I started playing this one in my head, which I haven't heard in a long time. Now it's funny, but I don't know the tune originally from Lloyd, but from former YouTuber Alex Constacio, who once lip-synced the song on speed, and quite well I might add. Gonna post both for you so you can see what I mean...
Well I've been a busy boy lately, and I just haven't had the time to put out any new music posts. But I'm back, and it's been a good week...
Don't Leave Me Alone - David Guetta, Anne-Marie, EDX
This mix of David Guetta's Don't Leave Me Alone by EDX has me loving this track even more. Anne-Marie's vocals are oh so good! Check it out...
Sunflower - Post Malone, Swae Lee
This hot new track from the soundtrack to the forthcoming film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verses, is pretty damned mesmerizing. Check out Sunflower...
None of My Business - Cher Lloyd
British singer Cher Lloyd is back with her first solo effort in two years and she's got a winner. Check out None of My Business...
Revelation - Troye Sivan, Jonsi
Troye Sivan and Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi have released a collaboration to be featured in the upcoming feature film Boy Erased, in which Sivan stars. The ethereal song is befitting of the film, which follows the gay son of a Baptist priest as he is forced to undergo conversion therapy after it is discovered that he is gay. Check out Revelation...
3 Nights - Dominic Fike
Newcomer Dominic Fike releases his debut song and it is immediately likable for it's catchy sounds. Check out 3 Nights...
Aside from these five new tracks, we've got several honorable mentions...
Tonight Lily Allen comes to NYC and I will be there and I can't wait! It's really too bad that a lot of Americans don't know her well, but at least here's one that is pretty well-known here. The song is off her first record, Alright Still, and it's called Smile...
This Feeling is one of the few songs on The Chainsmokers' latest album, Sick Boy, that sounds like The Chainsmokers of old. Featuring the vocals of one Kelsea Ballerini, This Feeling is a power ballad that's very reminiscent of the boys' earlier hits like Roses, All We Know and Paris. Check out The Feeling...
Here's a hot collaboration from last June that somehow slipped past my radar. It's the hot Sofi Tukker with superstar deejay/producer Benny Benassi with a pulsating three-plus minutes of dance floor Heaven. Check out Everybody Needs a Kiss...
In the past three days, no less than three people have mentioned this beautiful song to me and only now am I getting the greatness of it. Man I've got to see this movie! Here's Shallow...
The other day, someone pretty special shared this song with me, and even though I never loved Bryan Adams' original (they played it too much on the radio!), I really love this version. Besides, it kind of fits my life these days...
Ooh, it's been a long time since I've posted anything rock and roll, and an even longer time since I've listened to Black Keys. I sooo love this song and I think the dancing, lip-syncing dude in the video is super cool. Check out Lonely Boy...
A week from Saturday I will be trekking into the city to see Lilly Allen for the second time at Terminal 5, and so I've been listening to a lot of her lately. Here's a classic that's as good today as it was back in 2009 when it was first released. Check out The Fear...
Here's a really nice song, and singer, that I had forgotten about until I stumbled upon it the other day. Florrie is a British singer, and though I haven't heard anything from her lately, this 2016 tune was in my list of heavy rotation songs back then, and everyone who ever heard me play it asked about it, it's that good! Check out Real Love...
All of life to me is music, and whenever I take a trip there are certain songs that will stand out as being a part of that trip. Florence + The Machine's Dog Days Are Over will definitely be a part of the memories of this past weekend in Cedar Point, and it all started with another memory jarred in the car. For whatever reason, I had put a lot of tunes on my Cedar Point playlist from my old Splash days and this was one of them. I remember it clearly...
...I had met a guy in Splash who had been vacationing in New York from Brazil. We got to talking and dancing and decided to drive uptown to the Ritz for some more fun. That's when this song came on Well, this stranger and I had such a good time rocking it out in the car that I will remember it always, and I shared the memory with the boys during the drive. Lo and behold, on one of our first rides on Steel Vengeance, guess what song was playing on the video screen? Yup....always such fun....
Run fast for your mother and fast for your father
Run for your children, from your sister and your brother
Leave all your love, all your lovin' behind
You can't carry it with you if you want to survive....
Greetings from Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Me and my pals Rich and Gary came for one, or a lot, last rides for the season. We decided to come for Gary's birthday yesterday and just get our fix at America's Roller Coast. What better song to play for the weekend than this one, and by the Ohio Players of all people? Here's Love Roller Coaster...
With a brand new album of ABBA cover songs and a tour on the way, Cher is once again in the spotlight. It's been awhile since I took a listen to her, but I delved into my Cher playlist yesterday and though there were plenty of songs to choose from, somehow I found myself going back to the beginning. Some of my favorite Cher songs are those from her early days, especially three story-telling tunes that really put her on the map in the early 70's. Of course, I'm talking about Half Breed, Dark Lady and this one, her very first #1 song. Check out Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves...
Do you know Poppy? I first discovered the YouTube sensation a little over a year ago with her 80's style funky Interweb. Back then I was immediately attracted to her sound and now she's got another sound that's somewhat familiar, only this time it's more contemporary. Can you tell what superstar singer from now this reminds me of? Check out Metal...
I heard somewhere that today, October 3rd, is Mean Girls Day. And since P!nk's God Is a DJ is from the movie, it's the perfect song to celebrate the day! Check it out...
Somebody asked me the other day what my favorite Madonna song. Though there are plenty of her songs that are special to me, Like a Prayer will always win. Sing it with me now...
Greetings from Troy, New York. Well it's the first day of October and I figured I'd post a song that kinda sorta goes with Halloween, which is just a few short weeks away. This Van Morrison classic appeared in one of my favorite scary movies of all time, American Werewolf In London, and so here goes Moondance...
