Image result for 1,2,3 - Sofia Reyes, feat. Jason Derulo, De La Ghetto

Here's a happy Latinish tune for your Tuesday.  It's by Latin Grammy nominated singer Sofia Reyes and she's got two good friends helping her out on this catchy Latin jam.  The song was featured on February 16th's New Music Fridays and for good reason.  Check out 1,2,3...

New Music Fridays, February 23rd, 2018 - Fresh Stuff From Janelle Monáe, DJ Snake

Hey there!  It's Monday night, so it must be time for New Music Fridays, lol.  This is a tough week in new music.  I had quite a difficult time finding songs worthy of spotlighting.  Probably the biggest news this week is the release of two new Janelle Monáe tunes, but other than that, it's been a so-so week. In fact, I'm only going to highlight four new songs, two from Monáe and two others, of course worthy of checking out.  So let's go...

Make Me Feel - Janelle Monáe

For any of you Janelle Monáe fans out there, you'll be very happy that for the first time in five years, the fiery and versatile songstress is back with not one, but two brand new singles from her forthcoming album, Dirty Computer.  The first one, Make Me Feel, is a throwback funky tribute to the Minneapolis sound of the 80's.  Even the video hearkens to the funky dancing style of that famous Purple One.  Very hot!  Check out Make Me Feel...

Django Jane - Janelle Monáe

The second new single from Monáe is completely different from the first, and if it weren't for the double release I probably wouldn't have highlighted this one.  Django Jane is much darker than the previous tune and its style is...well...rap.  Check it out...

Magenta Riddim - DJ Snake

DJ Snake returns to the scene with a wild blend of fast-paced Indian melodies along with island rhythms and Caribbean vocals.  This track is fierce, very unique, and strictly for hardcore dance fans.  Check out Magenta Riddim...

Carried Away - KLP, Milwaukee Banks

I'd never heard of singer KLP before, but I tell you she's got one catchy pop song here.  Check out Carried Away...

Though I have shared four new tracks worthy of attention, there are some songs, while not exciting enough to highlight, are worthy of an honorable mention.  Who knows, maybe some of them will grow on me and you'll see them as Song of the Day.  In the meantime, you can check all of these out on Spotify:

Want You Back - 5 Seconds of Summer
Cigarette - RAYE, Mabel, Steflon Don
Like I Do - David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Brooks
Stay Warm - George Taylor
Out of My Mind - Tritonal, Riley Clemmons
Lullaby - Sigala, Paloma Faith
Whispers - Svrcina

Song of the Day - Glad You Came - The Wanted

Image result for glad you came the wanted

No, it's not Flashback Friday, but it sure feels like it with this tune.  After a nice, productive, fun and relaxing week off, it's back to life for me.  But the weekend's activities, namely a little get together I hosted on Saturday night, left me with a nice feeling going into the work week and so it's cool!  I love my friends and each and every person who came by the other night, well, this one's for you...

Song of the Day - Cool - Basic Tape, featuring Huntar

268x0w

Last night I had a little mid-winter gathering at my place and as always, I carefully planned a playlist based on my guests.  I sprinkled a little newer stuff in with the old and there was one song several people commented on.  Basic Tape's Cool has got a groove that just pricks up your ears and then when you get to the chorus, the sugary sweetness of it just sucks you in.  This is one of those songs that could be a hit if anyone ever played it on the radio.  Check out Cool...

Image result for almost home sultan and shepard

It's a beautiful day outside and I wanted to share one of my favorite songs of all time so I can make the day even brighter.  Sultan and Shepard's Almost Home is an awesome song that blends soft, chill sounds with crescendoes of uplifting dance bets.  So check it out and then go out and have a great day...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - 7 - Prince & The New Power Generation

Image result for 7 prince

All seven and we watch them fall
They stand in the way of love
And we will smoke them all
With their intellect and a savoir-faire
No one in the whole universe
Will ever compare
I am yours now and you are mine
And together we'll love through
All space and time, so don't cry
One day all seven will die

Classic!

Song of the Day - Friends - Marshmello, Anne-Marie

Image result for friends marshmello

Just a couple of weeks ago this fantastic collaboration between Marshmello and Ann-Marie came to be, and it's grown on me a lot in that time.  Ann-Marie's got a smoking hot voice and set to Marshmello's beats, well, wow!  The duo has since put out a video to the tune and it's a lot of fun.  Check out Friends...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Some Kind of Lover - Jody Watley

You're some kind of lover
Turn me on
Turn me out

Image result for some kind of lover jody watley

For this week's Hump Day we go way back to 1988 and then super-hot Jody Watley.  This was the 4th single and 3rd top ten off her eponymous debut album which catapulted her to the Best New Artist Grammy that year.  God, I remember wearing this one out!  Here's Some Kind of Lover...

Song of the Day - The Middle - Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey

Image result for the middle - zedd, maren morris, grey

Zedd's latest, this time a collaboration with singer Maren Morris and EDM production team Grey, is pure pop/dance sugar.  I featured the tune on January 26th's New Music Fridays and it deserves it's own feature right here.  Check  out The Middle...

Song of the Day - Better Than Today - Kylie Minogue

Image result for better than today kylie minogue

You've got to feel it, see it, know how much you need it
What's the point in living if you don't take a chance?
You've got to use it, lose it, know the chance to do it
What's the point in living if you don't wanna dance?

Some may see Kylie Minogue's music as mindless dance stuff, but I can tell you as a fan that many of her songs carry a lot of inspiration, hope and lessons in life.  Such is the case with today's Song of the Day.  Her Better Than Today, off the Aphrodite album, is the perfect song for this President's Day.  We're all hoping that tomorrow is going to be better than today, both personally and politically.  What those kids in Florida are doing are exactly what Kylie's talking about, taking a chance, doing something about trying to make things better.  It's all something we should do, too!  Here's Better Than Today...

New Music Fridays, February 16th, 2018 - Five Hot New Tracks

It's President's Week, and there's lots of good new stuff this week to be heard.  Check out the best of this week's new music tracks...

You Owe Me - The Chainsmokers

Seemingly former EDM masters The Chainsmokers continue where they left off on their last single, Sick Boy, with a more alternative sound that's more down tempo than what we're used to from the duo...and it works.  Check out some vampirish terror in the accompanying video for You Owe Me...

Mad Love - Sean Paul, David Guetta, Becky G

One of my favorite tunes of the week is this bouncy lil piece of dance floor heaven featuring the likes of Sean Paul, Becky G and David Guetta.  Sean and Becky's unique island vocals play a perfect complement to Guetta's big beats.  Check out Mad Love...

Run For Your Life - K. Flay

I first discovered rock songstress K. Flay with her badass tune Blood In the Cut early last year and I've been waiting for something new from her ever since.  Well, Flay has just released a new tune from the soundtrack to the upcoming film Tomb Raider and it's the same nice, high energy rock and roll that made me love her in the first place.  Check out Run For Your Life...

1,2,3 - Sofia Reyes, featuring Jason Derulo, De La Ghetto

Twenty-two year old Latin Grammy nominee singer Sofia Reyes teams up with Jason Derulo and De La Ghetto on this ultra-catchy Spanglish jam, featuring head-bopping Latin beats, funky melodies and everything in between.  Hot song!  Check out 1,2,3...

Deep Breaths - Lookas, Cal

All of the pieces I've seen about this tune have included the word 'summer' and for good reason.  Yes, this dance jam has all of the markings of a hot summer jam, catchy tropical beats and some nice vocals by singer Cal.  Miami producer Lookas has really scored with this one!  Ooh if only it were closer to summer.  Here's Deep Breaths...

So there you go, five really hot new tracks to get you going this President's Week.  Of course, these five tunes aren't the only ones worth noting from this week's crop of new music.  Here are some honorable mentions you might want to check out, as well:

Getting Over You - Lauv
Remember - Youngr
I Heard You Got Too Litt Last Night - SAINt JHN
Heart to Break - Kim Petras
Wonderchild - Hot Shade, Christian Walz
Bad 2 Good - Aaron Carter
Look Back - Diplo, DRAM

Song of the Day - Perfect For You - Rachel Platten

Image result for perfect for you rachel platten

Today's song from singer Rachel Platten is a gem of a pop tune that was the first single off of her 4th studio album, Waves.  The song is sugary sweet and very catchy and I'm really surprised it wasn't more of a hit.  For what it's worth, check out Perfect For You...

Song of the Day - Both of Us - Yellow Claw

Image result for both of us yellow claw

Yellow Claw's Both of Us is the kind of song that slowly creeps into your head more and more every time you hear it.  To prove my point, I added this one to my Current list way back in November and just the other day I screenshooted the tune on Spotify, thinking ooh, this would make a great Song of the Day.  The song has got a nice makeu[p for a dance track, with sweet vocals for the verses and some killer musical crescendo as the chorus.  Check out Both of Us...

Song of the Day - Slow - Matoma, Noah Cyrus

Love this song!  It's really a wonder how I've waited this long to post it!

I don't wanna go slow, oh
I don't wanna go slow, oh
Every time you're pullin' backwards
I'm just gonna fall in faster
'Cause I don't wanna go slow, oh

Song of the Day - Lullaby - R3HAB, Mike Williams

Image result for lullaby r3hab

Throwing in a bit of newish house music for your Tuesday, courtesy of Dutch deejay/producers R3HAB and Mike Williams.  With an unknown singer providing some pretty nice, soft vocals set to down tempo verses and crescendo house beats, this one's a Saturday night dance floor filler.  Check out Lullaby...

Song of the Day - Talk to Me - Kiera Weathers

Image result for talk to me kiera weathers

Britain's The X-Factor Season 12 contestant Kiera Weathers released her very first tune back in November and it's taken me this long to catch it, and I'm so glad I did.  Talk to Me is catchy, lively and a bit tropical and it's just one of those sweet pop songs you just keep singing to yourself over and over again long after a listen.  Check out Talk to Me...

New Music Fridays, February 9th, 2018 - Five Hot New Tracks

Wow, compared to last week's offerings, the songs I bookmarked this week were slim pickings.  But that doesn't mean there isn't anything to get excited about.  On the contrary, check out five great new music tracks from this week...

Nuh Ready Nuh Ready - Calvin Harris, featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR

Superstar Scottish deejay/producer Calvin Harris resurfaces after a long time this week with a funky, island jam featuring the vocals of Canadian artist PARTYNEXTDOOR.  It didn't take me too long to get this bass-heavy jam into my head.  Check out Nuh Ready Nuh Ready...

High - Whethan, Dua Lipa

From the new Fifty Shades Freed Soundtrack comes this sultry sizzler from Dua Lipa and Chicago-based producer Whethan.  Ooh, this one's smokin'!  Check it out...

Friends - Marshmello. Anne Marie

EDM producer Marshmello teams up with Brit songstress Anne-Marie on this hard-driving pop tune.  The song is a bit less dancey and more on the pop side than what we're used to from Marshmello, but Anne-Marie's strong vocals help make this a pretty catchy track.  Check out Friends...

The Wave - R3HAB, Lia Marie Johnson

Dutch deejay/producer known as R3HAB is out with his latest offering, a really nice tune.  Billboard's Kat Bein describes The Wave way better than I could:

The Wave comes on smooth, but underneath its groovy melodies is a hidden undertow of catchy goodness. Lia Marie Johnson has a voice that drips with depth and beauty. She breathes like smoke over the deep blue sound, and before you know it, you're drawn in head-to-toe, jerkin' your shoulders to the suddenly plunky synths.

Check out The Wave...

The Weight Is Gone - Albin Lee Meldau

Albin Lee Meldau is a singer from Gothenburg, Sweden and he's currently working on a new solo album due out this summer.  His new song, The Weight Is Gone, is an immediately likable piece of soulful joy, with great vocals and a nice, percussive, head bopping backbeat.  Check out The Weight Is Gone...

Song of the Day - B.A.M. - Schilly

Image result for b.a.m. schilly

Philly-based hip hop artist Schilly has just released the video to his new neo-disco jam, B.A.M.  When I spotlighted the track on January 5th's New Music Fridays, I was unable to find even an audio track of the tune, so to have this is pretty cool.  Love the vibe of this one!  Check out B.A.M.....

Song of the Day - Happy Hour (Eden Prince Remix) - Weezer

Image result for happy hour weezer eden prince mix

In a category I'd call hot dance tracks from unlikely places, we have a song from alternative band Weezer's latest album, Pacific Daydream.  The song is called Happy Hour and it was recently released on an EP of several remixes, of which this one I like....um, love...the best.  I spotlighted the tune on January 26th's New Music Fridays and now here it is as Song of the Day.  Check out the Eden Prince remix of Happy Hour...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Aaliyah - Katy B, Jessie Ware

Image result for aaliyah katy b

I first became aware of fiery Brit dance singer Katy B sometime in 2014, during the period of her Little Red album.  The song was Aaliyah, and I heard it over the speakers in a store in Atlantic City, and I immediately Shazammed it.  The hypnotic beats and equally mesmerizing vocals got me hooked and I've been a big fan ever since.  Check out a live performance of the song...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Muévelo Loca Boom Boom - Pitbull

Image result for muevelo loca

It's been a long time since Pitbull's been at the top of his game, but he has been putting out new music of late.  This one's vintage Pit, with catchy lyrics and an even catchier backbeat.  Check out Muévelo Loca Boom Boom...

Song of the Day - Say Something - Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton

Image result for say something justin timberlake

After somewhat dissing Justin Timberlake, I'd like to lighten up a bit and post one of the better new songs from his new Man of the Woods album.  Say Something is a reunion between two singers from different worlds who performed a much celebrated mash-up of Tennessee Whiskey and Drink You Away a couple of years ago at the CMA's.  The acoustic tune has got a serious tone and is a little reminiscent of some of the down-tempo tunes Timberlake does so well.  Check out Say Something...

New Music Fridays, February 1st, 2018

I bookmarked an unusually high number of new music tunes this week, including Justin Timberlake's new set, Man of the Woods.  Though I saved so many tunes, I actually struggled to find five I wanted to feature.  With the exception of the first three on this week's list, I could have highlighted any of the honorable mentions and still been happy with my choices.  Check it out...

Pray For Me - The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar

Pray For Me is a hot, hypnotic new collaboration featuring two of today's hottest R&B/rap stars.  The song, from the soundtrack to the upcoming Marvel feature film, Black Panther, is instantly likable as The Weekend and Kendrick Lamar show off their best.  Check out Pray For Me...

Us - Jennifer Lopez, Skrillex, Poo Bear

After what seems like an awfully long hiatus, J-Lo makes her return to the music scene with a brand new collaborative effort with Skrillex and Poo Bear.  Us is a Latin-infused dance number that the singer confirmed at the Super Saturday Night show in Minneapolis was about herself and current beau Alex Rodriguez.  Nice track!  Check out Us...

Savior - Iggy Azalea, Quavo

Another singer who seems to have taken quite a sabbatical from music is back with a more serious, yet nicely rhythmic tune.  Iggy Azalea returns to center stage with a deeply personal tune written at a tough period in the singer's life.

I'd had a big breakup, and my career wasn't going well, and I sort of found myself in this space where everything that I was used to, just my day to day routine, had abruptly stopped. And I just didn't know how to get my life back together, or what my life looked like with all of these changes, and how to get a routine going again, and just how to get my happiness back and feeling normal.

Savior features fellow rapper Quavo and though it's a bit more of a serious tone than we're used to, it's got a really nice groove and with Quavo's vocals, it really works.  Check out Savior...

Proud of Me - Mahalia, Little Simz

Up and coming R&B singer Mahalia has come out with an ear-pleasing, mid-tempo gem featuring MC extraordinaire Little Simz.  Check out Proud of Me...

Lifted - Allie X, Banx & Ranx

Canadian singer Allie X has teamed up with production duo Banx & Ranx for this island-flavored jam that will be getting a lot of listens during my music time, for sure.  Check out Lifted...

And here are those honorable mentions I mentioned...

Music to My Ears - Keys N Krates, Tory Lanez
Wasted - Peking Duck
My Girls - The Vanjas
Saturday Sun - Vance Joy
Home With You - Madison Beer
Rhythm of the Heart - Stats
Proud - Rita Ora
The Spectre - Alan Walker

Song of the Day - Black Cat - Janet Jackson

Image result for black cat janet jackson

To commemorate the Super Bowl and its Halftime Show featuring Justin Timberlake yesterday, fans of Miss Janet Jackson held a #JanetAppreciationDay and we're following suit this morning.  I watched Timberlake's performance last night and I can honestly say I was underwhelmed.  Now I have no idea whether or not Justin reached out to Janet to join him, as he should have done, but her presence was not seen or heard and that's just wrong.  Justin Timberlake received no consequences from Nipplegate and Janet's career took a nosedive as a result.  I, and many other Janet fans, think she deserved an invitation.  Ah well, enough griping!  Here's Black Cat...

Song of the Day - Don't Look Any Further - Dennis Edwards & Siedah Garrett

Image result for don't look any further

Today's song is in memory of the late, great Dennis Edwards, who sadly passed away on Friday after suffering from a long illness.  He was 74.  Edwards was best known for his tourney as a member of the Temptations and he had a hand in some of their greatest hits, and in 1984 he teamed up with singer Siedah Garrett on this intoxicating, bass-heavy tune that shot all the way up the charts.  This song has had a continuous spot on my All Time Favorites playlist throughout and though the video may seem dated, the song certainly isn't.  Check out Don't Look Any Further...

Rest in Peace Dennis!

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - The Police

Image result for the police everything she does is magic

Ever since I saw that Sting had put out a new song, Don't Make Me Wait, with Shaggy, I knew I wanted to post one of his songs for Flashback Friday.  At first I was going to post the chill and beautiful Desert Rose, and don't be surprised if I do one of these days, but The Police remind me of the early days of MTV, my youth, and good times.  Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic appeared on the band's fourth and very popular album, Ghost In the Machine, and the island rocker was one of their biggest hits ever.  Check it out...
