Flashback Friday Song of the Day - You Better Run - Pat Benatar

I heard recently that Pat Benatar is nominated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year and I am so excited for her.  Anyone around in the I Want My MTV era surely remembers Long Island native Benatar's videos in heavy rotation, with songs such as this one.  Throughout the 80's and beyond, the singer, along with husband and guitarist Neil Giraldo, solidified their sound and were an ever-charting presence in the music world.  I had a difficult time choosing which tune of hers to play, but this, to me, is a classic, and I distinctly remember it from MTV.  Check out You Better Run...

Ever since I saw that Sting had put out a new song, Don't Make Me Wait, with Shaggy, I knew I wanted to post one of his songs for Flashback Friday.  At first I was going to post the chill and beautiful Desert Rose, and don't be surprised if I do one of these days, but The Police remind me of the early days of MTV, my youth, and good times.  Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic appeared on the band's fourth and very popular album, Ghost In the Machine, and the island rocker was one of their biggest hits ever.  Check it out...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Stop Draggin' My Heart Around - Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty

As we continue to mourn Tom Petty's death, here's one of his most well-known collaborations with another legend in the music world, Ms. Stevie Nicks.  Their 1981 Stop Draggin' My Heart Around was penned by Petty and was one of several tunes they sang together, and by far the most popular.  The video was the 25th played by MTV at its inception and is a classic to this day.  Enjoy...

New Wave Month Song of the Day - Love Plus One - Haircut 100

This quirky, island-ish tune was the only hit in America for these Brit boys from their 1982 debut Pelican West.  Though it wasn't a monster hit, it did get plenty of airplay on MTV and I've always enjoyed it.  Click play below and perhaps you will, too...

Song of the Day - Vogue - Madonna

Several posts went around Facebook yesterday marking the 25th anniversary of the release of arguably Madonna's best song ever.  Yes, the year was 1990 and this song was the first single off of I'm Breathless, her soundtrack for the movie Dick Tracy.  It's inspiration came from the clubs of New York City, most notably Sound Factory, where the late night revelers were doing their vogueing thing on the dance floor.  

Everything about this song is perfect, from the lyrics and the beats, the masterfully choreographed black and white video, to this performance, from that year's Video Music Awards on MTV.  This visual incarnation of the song took on a whole new perspective from the original video, and the French Provincial costumes and accompanying dance moves made this one especially appealing and is probably one of the best performances ever, by any artist, at that particular awards show.  I especially love the fans.  So click play below and relive one memorable performance for a great, great song...
