Finishing up this week of Current Faves is probably one of Gwen Stefani's worst performing songs. Spark the Fire came out in 2014 and was billed as part of Stefani's comeback, along with the more dramatic and serious Baby Don't Lie, after a long hiatus from making music. Well, the song didn't fare well at all, barely cracking any charts anywhere, but hey, I like it. It's kind of silly, but very reminiscent of some of her older stuff, especially Hollaback Girl. So check out the fun Spark the Fire...

Song of the Day - Somebody Loves You - Betty Who
Okay, so who remembers this one from 2012? It's hard to believe that it's been five years since this was out. Back in that day, there was an adorable viral video which I had posted of a flash mob dancing it up to this song at a same sex, surprise wedding proposal at a Home Depot. In fact, that video was what got me to like this song in the first place. With or without that vid, though, Betty Who's Somebody Loves You is a monumentally cute song. So press play below, check it out and go on out and have a great Thursday...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Dancing In the Dark - Dev & The Cataracs
Here's a sexy late night club tune from 2011 and my Current Faves playlist. This one reminds me of the late, great Splash club in NYC. Oh the good ole days...

Song of the Day - Dumb For You - Hoodie Allen
I've got this playlist on my iPod. It's called Current Faves. I know I organize my music in a way that probably no one else does, but anyway my main playlist I call Current. It's where I put my most, you got it, current music discoveries. Every once in awhile, though, I need to clean out that folder, and so for those one or two hit wonders that I don't want to get lost somewhere, I pop em into the Current Faves. That way I get to hear them every once in awhile, because, well, they're always worth more listens. So I'll be posting songs from this playlist all week long, so stay tuned. In the meantime, off to today's jam...
Hoodie Allen's Dumb For You is one of those such songs. It came out three years ago and I loved it from the first time I heard it. It's kind of a white boy, smooth kinda bop your head and sing along rap song. It's really catchy and if you haven't heard it before, check it out...

Song of the Day - Lonely Boy - The Black Keys
Happy Monday everybody! Here's some good old fashioned rock n roll to start your week. Definitely one of my all time favorites of The Black Keys. Great, jamming tune. Enjoy!

Song of the Day - TGFM - Zara Larsson
Oh those Swedes! From ABBA to Robyn, September and more, these folks know how to make great pop songs, and in English, no less! Zara Larsson's TGFM is a sweet sounding, pop gem that's about as natural a pop ballad as it can get.. Check out TGFM...

Song of the Day - Party In My Head - September
I said the other day, when I posted September's Resuscitate Me, that I'd been listening a lot to her Love CPR CD and I would be posting another tune from the record. Well, here it is. Party In My Head is the lead song to the album and it's a nice, happy, dancey, pop tune. Check it out and enjoy...

Song of the Day - London - Maty Noyes
In exactly two weeks from today, I will be flying to London for the first time in my life. I was planning on saving this song for just before my trip, but in light of what happened yesterday, I thought it more appropriate to post it today. Admittedly, what happened in London yesterday has me somewhat apprehensive about this trip that's been long in the making, but I need to approach this like I approach anything else in my life. That is, I can't go around life being scared to live, and neither should anyone else, Should this trip be cancelled because of the attack yesterday, I wouldn't be crushed, but if it is not (its a school trip), I will go!
I first came across singer Maty Noyes on Kygo's wonderful Stay. I love that song and I love her voice. So when I saw that she had come out with a song on her own, I checked it out...and I love this one, too! So please check out the catchy, dramatic, London...

Hump Day Song of the Day - Took the Night - Chelley
Here's one of those classic, bassline-thumping, sexually charged late night dance floor fillers from back in 2009. It's a perfect song for your Hump Day...

Song of the Day - Blood In the Cut - K. Flay
Who is this K. Flay chick? Modern-day Alannis? Nah, she's K. Flay, a 19 year-old rapper/alternative rocker whose tune Blood In the Cut caught my ear the very first time I heard it. Caution, explicit lyrics ahead. Check it out...

Song of the Day - Resuscitate Me - September
I need love CPR
Here's an oldie, but a really good goodie. It was just a few years ago that I discovered a Swedish recording artist named September. The year was 2010 and the album, chock full of pop/dance gems, was called Love CPR. In fact, I've been listening to the record the past couple of days and there's one more I may just post this week. So good! Anyhow, check out Resuscitate Me...

Song of the Day - Good Day - Yellow Claw, feat. DJ Snake & Elliphant
It was a good day, oh what a good day
That day you broke my heart
I loved you way too hard
And now I'm free
Dutch duo Yellow Claw have teamed up with DJ Snake and Elliphant to create this wonderfully nice, wonderfully soothing dance tune. Billboard says it's dripping with sunshine with tinges of 80's new wave that lead into sweet dynamic drop, and yeah, I agree. Check out Good Day...

Song of the Day - Sùbeme La Radio - Enrique Iglesias, feat. Descemer, Bueno, Zion & Lennox
Here's a fun new, Spanish language jam from Enrique Iglesias and company. It's of the reggaeton persuasion, and like Don Omar's Danza Kuduro, it's got that huge crossover feel. My students have been singing it all week in class, and every time they do, I follow suit. Check out Sùbeme La Radio (Turn Up the Radio)...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Fat Boy - Max-A-Million
Here's a reggae flavored jam I haven't heard in a long, long time. It comes from a time when seemingly all music was great...the 1990's. Max-A-Million had several hits in the mid-90's, all reggae-ish and all good, including remakes of Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing and S.O.S.'s Take Your Time, and of course this one, my favorite. Check out the fun Fat Boy...

Song of the Day - 2 Lovin' U - DJ Premier & Miguel
Here's another newly downloaded song I am loving! It's kind of got an alternative rock feel, though it is definitely a dance tune. I love the different "damn's" in the background at the chorus. Fun tune! Check out 2 Lovin' U...

Song of the Day - Breathing Underwater (Live) - Emeli Sandé
I've been listening to this song a lot yesterday (it literally gives me goosebumps!), and since today's "blizzard" has turned out so far to be a lot of water in the form of rain, I thought it appropriate to post it today. Enjoy!

Song of the Day - Like I Used To - The Romantic Era
Such great songs go by the wayside without ever being given a chance way too often, and it's one of the reasons I keep this blog. The Romantic Era's Like I Used To is one of those songs that so deserves airplay. There is virtually nothing to be found online about this rock/dance ballad, so I can't tell you much, except that it's one song of many that I've downloaded within the last couple of weeks and it's quickly become a favorite. The tune is done as a duet between a male and a female singer, the verses are tender and the dance-ish musical bridges between them are just so catchy. Check out Like I Used To...

Song of the Day - Feel It Still - Portugal. The Man
Ooh, I'm a rebel just for kicks now
I've been feelin' it since 1986 now...
I've been feelin' it since 1986 now...
I've been waiting to post this song for about a week now. It's a tune I loved the very first time I heard it, and if you're a fan of finger-snapping, fun-loving funk, then you're going to love it too! Think Fatboy Slim meets Bruno Mars. Check out Feel It Still...

Song of the Day - Waterfall - Stargate, featuring Sia & P!nk
Around 11 in the morning yesterday, my pal and fellow music lover Eddie texted me.
P!nk and Sia on the same song!
He's seen the tune on Spotify, which means I had to wait till I got home to take a listen. What a pleasant surprise! I had had no idea these two, two of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time, had been working together. Stargate, a production team out of Norway known for their work with such big time artists as Rihanna, Beyoncé and Coldplay, wrote and produced this head-bopping gem from the two superstars. Check it out...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - I Know There's Something Going On - Frida
Ooh, this song! ABBA! Anni-Frid...Frida! 1982. All of the ingredients to this rare, solo song by one fourth of the superstar quartet mixed in together make for one stellar tune that I can never seem to change when it comes on the radio or my iPod or whatever. Love, love, love...

Song of the Day - Call On Me (Ryan Riback Remix) - Starley
I first posted this song by Aussie singer Starley back in November and in the weeks since it's become pretty darned popular, having gone platinum and reaching #82 (so far!) on Billboard's Hot 100. When I posted it the first time, it had just been re-released (it originally came out in July of last year), and I was loving it for its positive message and nice, inspirational, dancey feel. I'm so glad it caught on. Check out Call On Me...

Song of the Day - Till I Found You - Josef Salvat
Josef Salvat is an Australian singer/songwriter who my friend Sonny turned me onto a few months ago. The very reason he came up in conversation in the first place was the mention of fellow Aussie crooner Troye Sivan. It was one of those, well if you like Troye Sivan, then you'll certainly like... And it's true! Though it took me awhile to remember to download Salvat's debut album, Night Swim, it didn't take me as long to warm up to the majority of tunes on the album. Salvat's voice is similar to Sivan's, though not as rich, and the tunes are mostly ballads, so if you enjoy the softer side of music then you'll love this..

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Just Give Me a Reason - P!nk, Nate Ruess
Oh, it's been way too long since The Truth About Love! Perhaps now that Ms. P!nk has her new baby boy, Jameson, she will move forward with a new one. I know that many of us are wanting it sooooo bad! Any-who, here's one of the best from Truth...

Song of the Day - Alive Again - September, feat. Steinar
Every once in awhile, while looking for new music, I accidentally download a song I didn't intend to, and every once in awhile, that song becomes a favorite. The tune Alive Again, by September, is one of those songs. This one's got the feel of a rock ballad set to a dance track, and it works, not to mention the sweet lyrics. Check it out...

Song of the Day - It AIn't Me - Kygo, with Selena Gomez
