Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Peace Train - 10,000 Maniacs

Natalie Merchant. 10,000 Maniacs.  I had forgotten all about her and them altogether, sadly.  I was a huge fan of theirs back in the day and I haven't listened to them in eons.  All it took was a little reminder last night to have all of those great songs come rushing back to my consciousness and I'll surely be reliving some fond memories in the days to come.  Peace Train was my introduction to Natalie and the band, and I think it's a very appropriate song for today's dark world we seem to be living in.  So anyway, enjoy, and peace to you all!

I mentioned a few weeks back that Lily Allen had finally released a new album, No Shame, and that it was a much more serious record in general than anything she's done before.  Well, to me that isn't necessarily a good thing because it always takes a little longer for me to really dig into the songs.  This ballad, the album's newest single, is a breakup song, and it did take me awhile to like it, but like it I did and after a couple of listens, or perhaps even the first one, you will too.  Check out Lost My Mind...

This has been an oddly good week in new music, though at first listen, I wasn't crazy about any of the tunes spotlighted here.  The ones I chose are varied in genre, but all pretty damned good, so check out this week's offerings...

Don't Matter to Me - Drake, Michael Jackson

Undoubtedly the biggest new music story of the week was the dropping of Drake's brand new double album, Scorpion.  Not a huge Drake fan here, but there are definitely some tunes in his catalog that I do love, and they all tend to be more on the R&B side, like this whopper of a surprise.  Apparently, the Canadian rapper/singer delved into some of Michael Jackson's later work and used the King of Pop's vocals withing the overall construction of this song.  Pitchfork has an incredibly amazing piece on this.  Check out a sound-clip of Don't Matter to Me...
