I was jamming out the other day to a great 90's dance playlist on Spotify and then one of my all time favorite dance songs came on. It's fun. It's happy. It's a high energy classic dance anthem. Check out I'm Gonna Get You...
Even though I haven't been spotlighting songs on my New Music Fridays posts lately (hopefully that will be returning soon!), it doesn't mean I haven't been checking out new music. Here's a relatively new one by indie artist Georgia and I screenshotted the tune on Spotify when it came on my car radio so I'd remember to post it. The song's got a nice, late night chill vibe and though the video is a little, well, offbeat, the tune is very smooth. Check out Started Out...
Here is a classic, big dance number straight from the 90's and just right for this last Hump Day of November. Check out Kim English and Unspeakable Joy...
Here's another song, like Robyn's Missing U, that's taking too long for a video, if one ever comes, and like the former, this one's too good not to share. English singer/songwriter Jessie Ware has got a nice dance floor vibe going on with this one. Check out Overtime...
Oh man, I used to really LOVE MPeople! But sadly I seem to have forgotten all about them. Luckily, while I was looking for a song to post for today, I found this gem that totally fits my life at the moment as I settle into the first week at my new digs. Here's Moving On Up...
I've been waiting and waiting for a video to this song so I could post it, but it's been long enough. This song is probably the only track on Robyn's new record, Honey, that sounds like something from Body Talk, which is not a bad thing at all. Here's Missing U...
I had planned all week to post this disco classic for Flashback Friday, but alas I was busy moving into my new place and never had the time. Well just because it's not Friday, that doesn't mean I can't post one of the best dance songs ever. Here's Don't Leave Me This Way...
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Unlike Christmas, it is not about what I call the 'have to's' of commercialism that have taken away the meaning of that holiday. No, this day is all about being thankful for what we have in our lives. Of course, that's not something we should save for just one day of the year because we all have something to be thankful for each and every day, but at least we have this great big reminder.
I've got plenty of things to be thankful for this year. I've been having an especially good year and I'd like to take a moment here to reflect a little on the things I am grateful for at this moment...
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be a homeowner for the past twenty years. Not everyone gets to experience this slice of the American Dream and I consider myself lucky to have had this beautiful house of mine both as a co-owner and for the last ten years as the sole owner. I'm proud of my home and after today it will now simply be a beautiful memory of my past, and I am thankful.
I am thankful for all of the people in my life. Of course, I am lucky to still have my mom young and spry as she is, and I'll be celebrating yet another Thanksgiving with her today. I am grateful for my wonderful circle of friends who are always in y corner no matter what. It is always a warm feeling when you have people around you who you know enjoy your company and will always have your back. I am grateful for my students, who are simply extensions of my own family, the many past and present who I have nurtured and developed lifelong bonds with. I am thankful for the guy I am currently seeing. He has brought me smiles for just about three months now, and remembering what it's like to have someone out there like that is oh so nice!
Lastly, I am grateful, as I leave this house, that I found such a new and wonderful place to call home. Though my last moments here on Vernon St. will be sad and reflective, I know that making this new home for myself will be an exciting venture that I hope will be the beginning of an even more vividly beautiful life.
Natalie Merchant's Kind and Generous has been my staple at Thanksgiving for years. To me, it is the ultimate thank you song and I hope you will click play and listen to the beautiful and gracious words. Here's Natalie...
In two days I am moving out of my house and for the past several weeks I've been letting go of a lot of things. I think now it's time to let go of another thing, and that's this video that I made one hot summer night back in 2012. I was bored that night and P!nk's The Truth About Love album had just come out and there was just something about this song that made me want to 'perform' it, lol. The video is silly, I know, but it has made a lot of people smile over the years, and so it was worth doing.
I actually woke up this morning with True Love in my head and went to YouTube to check it out. The picture has become very poor quality over time and so I decided to post it one last time. If you've seen it before, well, I'm sorry, but if you haven't, I hope it makes you smile, despite the poor quality. I'm going to leave it up on YouTube, but it shan't appear on John's World again.
One of my favorite songs of all time is this well-orchestrated chill/dance tune that's got some mesmerizing verses and a killer hook. Check out Sultan + Shepard's Almost Home...
A few weeks ago my friend Sonny sent me a text suggesting these two songs that both had to do about going back to the 90's, a wonderful decade for sure! As I do often, I didn't have time to answer the text at the moment, and I never got around to answering it or even remembering it until now. The first song was Ladies in the 90's, by Lauren Alaina, which I admit I haven't checked out more than once or twice, and the other is this catchy little ditty by Charli XCX, featuring guest vocals by Troye Sivan. Love! Here's 1999...
It's been a really long time since I've posted anything J-Lo on here. Here's a classic dance floor jam that was the beginning of the second coming of Miss Jennifer. Check out On the Floor...
Check out a bright new, much talked-about young artist and his catchy new song 3 Nights. I spotlighted it a few weeks back and as of this morning there's still no video for the song, but it's oh so good. Here's 3 Nights...
Going to be really busy the next couple of weeks, so expect sporadic posts from here until I am all settled into my new place. In the meantime, here's an all-time favorite...
Today is Election Day, and probably one of the most important we've had in, well, two years. Though there is no one big race on the ticket, control of Congress, and the overall balance, or a return to some sort of balance, is at a very big stake. And just in time for the election comes one Barbra Streisand, who's penned a new song on how she, and many of us, see the state of our nation today. The only thing we can do to make it better is to go out there and vote! So here's Barbra's little ode to a certain Head of State who shall remain nameless with Don't Lie to Me...
This is the second time I'm posting this relatively recent song by Louis the Child with Max. It's such a good tune, think Bruno Mars-type funk. Easy to learn, easy to love. Here's Dear Sense...
Here's a song from the movie Sister Act that ALWAYS makes me smile. I hope it makes you smile too! Relive the memory of the first time you heard this version of Hail Holy Queen...
Moroccan/Queens girl Dounia has got a unique brand of music. With high-pitched vocals and smooth, contemporary R&B sounds, her new song is definitely a winner. Check out How I See It...
