Song of the Day - The Gambler - Kenny Rogers

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

I don't know where my mind is these days, but I totally meant to post this yesterday.  On Friday, country music legend Kenny Rogers passed away of natural causes at the age of 81.  Kenny was one of the biggest crossover country artists in the late 70's and 80's, with a multitude of both pop and country hits, like Lucille, Through the Years, Lady, and so many more.  When I visited Nashville in 2014, it was a highlight seeing a tribute to him at the Country Music Hall of Fame.  Anyway, here's is Kenny Roger's most identifiable hit, The Gambler...

Song of the Day - Kiss Like the Sun - Jake Bugg

Though technically this song by country singer Jake Bugg is country, and I don't really like country music, it's got a feel eerily reminiscent of John Mellencamp in his heyday, and I'm loving the sound.  Here's Kiss Like the Sun...

How do you like that?  A country song on John's World!  Anyway, I featured this Ryan Riback remix of country newcomer Jordan Davis' debut single and it's become a regular in my rotation ever since.  Here's Singles You Up...

I don't normally post country music, but my friend Gary turned me on to this song about a week ago and I love it.  It's by fresh conger Devin Dawson and vulnerable tune is just his second single.  Here's Asking For a Friend...

Song of the Day - Jolene - Miley Cyrus

I was going through some saved links and I came across this one from way back and I must've saved it for a reason, probably to post it here.  Apparently, in 2012, Miley posted some videos of herself performing several cover tunes from her own backyard and called it...what else?  The Backyard Sessions.  Here the young singer covers a 1973 hit of her godmother's, Dolly Parton's fabulous Jolene.  Enjoy!

Song of the Day - Setting the World on Fire - Kenny Chesney, with P!nk

Kenny Chesney.  P!nk? Country music?  Yeah!  When I first heard that P!nk had done a song with country music legend Kenny Chesney, I did a virtual double-take.  But then I thought about it and this totally makes sense.  After all, P!nk may be known for her pop prowess, but she's written and performed many a tune in the country music vein.  In fact, some of my favorite tunes of hers, like The One That Got Away and Mean, have a bit of country twang to em'.  Anyhow, this one definitely works!  Check out Setting the World on Fire...

Song of the Day - Something Better - Audien, featuring Lady Antebellum

I've been hearing, and liking, this one a lot lately on one of my favorite Sirius channels, BPM.  It's such a nice blend of Lady Antebellum pop-country mixed in with some dancey beats.  Great tune!
