From her newest release, an EP called This Summer, young talent Alessia Cara throws down this happy jam you should listen to with the top down if you can. Sweet! Here's OKAY OKAY...
Happy beautiful Saturday everyone! I tell ya, it feels more like August than September. Here's a nice, chill dance tune from an artist called Meduza. Check out Piece of Your Heart...
A song I'd bookmarked a couple of weeks ago from Norwegian newcomer Girl In Red came on my radio today and I dug it so that I think I played it at least three or four times in succession. Cool tune! Here's Bad Idea...
Straight from my All Time Favorites playlist on Spotify, and straight on the heels of one very impressive speech by Swedish 16 year-old Greta Thunberg on climate change at the U.N. yesterday, we are reminded that kids are wonderful and they are the future! Check out Just a Kid...
I posted this one a couple of months ago, and I've grown to like it more and more ever since, especially since I added it to a Spotify playlist I call Folksy-Guitarsy-Pianoey and another called Coffee House. Wierd, right? I know, but it fits the mood. The song is so chill, I feel like I'm in a coffee house in Seattle just chilling in the corner, watching all the people go by. Here's Cigarettes...
One day before the official first day of fall we have summer befitting midsummer. Well, here's a sunshiney chill jam by POWERS and The Knocks that is very befitting this beautiful day. Here's Sunshine...
I recently discovered this song by LA-based pop band The Regrettes and I actually had difficulty categorizing it. It's kind of retro, a little Go Go's-ish, and it's oh so fun! Check out I Dare You...
Wow, this is the first time in a long time that I've posted a Song of the Day this late in the day, but I just couldn't not do it. This classic B-52's jam was featured in the ending credits of episode six, season two of one of my favorite current shows, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Anyway, enjoy this vintage performance by this legendary band. Here's Dance This Mess Around...
Here's a fantastic new track from Belgian artist Lost Frequencies featuring some pretty powerful vocals by one Aloe Blacc. Check out Truth Never Lies...
I've featured the tune on my Spotify playlist, Coffee House. Check it out...
Upon first hearing the beginning of this song by Dutch deejay/producers Yellow Claw, you might think eh, but then you get to the chorus and it's fast-moving, hypnotic groove, almost like a whistle only danceable. Check out Get Up...
Ugh, three days, two celebrity passings. Just two days after the death f singer Eddie Money comes the sad passing of another, Ric Ocasek of the new wave band, The Cars. The Cars made a big splash on the music scene in the late 70's and early 80's and had a string of hits during that time. This fun one from 1981 appears on the soundtrack of one of my favorite 80's movies, The Last American Virgin. Rest in Peace Ric! Here's Shake It Up...
This recent collaboration between two of my favorite deejay/producers has got a really groove-alicious sound and a really nice hook. Check out Thing For You...
I'm guessing that most of you already know of the passing of Eddie Money, an 80's pop music mainstay and fellow Long Islander, just yesterday. Money's biggest hit also happens to be my favorite song of his. Check out the fun Take Me Home Tonight...
I am just now realizing how long it's been since I've posted anything Kylie Minogue. Where, oh where has she been? Anyway, here's a classic from almost twenty years ago. The video's become a bit fuzzy, but it's the music that counts anyway, right? Check out Can't Get You Outta My Head...
Without a doubt my favorite song off of Ed Sheeran's new No. 6 Collaborations Project has this smooth, beautifully written, island, south of the bordery feel, full of awesome, catchy lyrics and a background hook that just gets me. Check out South of the Border...
18 Years! It seems so long ago. None of the students in my school were even around on that fateful day, and it'll be my job to help ensure that those I touch learn and remember to never forget. I post this song today because even though it was our country that was attacked that day, it was also my city that was set on fire. Before there was #OrlandoStrong, #LasVegasStrong, ElPasoStrong, and all the other worthy monikers, there was #NYStrong, first and always. Peace!
This past Sunday would have been Avicii's 30 birthday. Though we're a couple of days late, I couldn't let the day pass without a mention. His surprising and untimely death is still such a big loss for the dance music world and the whole music world in general. Here's one of my favorite songs of his, a collaboration with Robbie Williams on a tender ballad turned dance tune. Check out The Days...
From one soundtrack to another, I ventured into the city to see Chicago, The Musical yesterday and...what a great and entertaining classic! Here's my favorite...
My bf and I have been re-watching American Horror Story and we are currently on the second season, Asylum, which contains one of my very favorite moments from the entire series. It happens during the 10th episode after Sister Jude has been given electro-shock therapy and returns to the common room fried, literally. All of a sudden, she walks over to the jukebox in the room and then the most random, and fun, things happens. Watch...
I am really digging the sounds of British newcomer Mabel. Her first song, Don't Call Me Up, is one of my favorite songs of the year, and this one is a good follow-up. Check out Mad Love...
Today we celebrate Freddie Mercury's birthday a day late (It IS Flashback Friday, after all!) with a pair of classics from the band's 1978 album Jazz. Here's Fat Bottomed Girls and Bicycle Race, all in one long video. Enjoy...
I first took notice of indie raptress Lizzo more than two years ago with her fantabulous, smoking hot, funky and in-yo-face Water Me, but I have to say that I'd lost my Lizzo way since then, but lucky for everybody else, she's become a big big star. Take a look at this inspired performance from last week's VMA's. One watch and you'll be sold!
And just like that...summer's over! Well, not technically, but maybe it's just better to say that summer vacation is over. Yes, folks, it's back to school time for me and time to get back to life again. I know you're all weeping for me right now, and I don't blame you, lol. Anyway, though I'm not too motivated just yet, I found this song by LA-based indie trio Wild called Here We Go, and I think it fits. Check it out, and for all of my teacher friends going back to school today, good luck!
Happy Labor Day everyone! Today is the unofficial last day of summer and we're going out with a bang. French deejay/producer Kung's This Girl is one of my all time favorite dance jams. I dare ya not to bop! Here's This Girl...
It's Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, which is party central over at Cherry Grove where me and my friends are headed to celebrate the end of summer and my guy's birthday. Happy Birthday Vincent! Let's dance...
