Norwegian deejay/producer Kygo was recently offered some previously laid vocals of Whitney Houston singing Steve WInwood's Higher Love by the singer's estate and he ran with it. Set to a typically Kygo-esque dance track, the vocals make for a respectable version of the original classic and have earned Houston her very first posthumous hit record. Check it out...
During the summer I like to listen to a lot of reggae music. There's something about the island jams that really gets me in the spirit of the season. On that note, here's an oldie but goodie, a cover of a Jimmy Cliff song by a band called Rockers Revenge. Check out the irresistible The Harder They Come...
Just a couple of days ago, July 23rd, the music world marked the eighth anniversary of the death of Amy Winehouse. Imagine all of the great stuff she would've given us in that time. Hope you're resting in peace Amy. Here's You Know I'm No Good...
Good morning and Happy Tuesday! I am really digging this new song by the Jonas Brothers. It's got a little bit of a ska feeling and it's pretty darned catchy too! Check out Only Human...
I saw the newest incarnation of Disney's The Lion King the other night and it was simply awesome and highly recommended. Now admittedly up until a few months ago, I had never seen the original, only the Broadway play, and in the time since I did watch the film, I've come to appreciate the story for what it is...the ultimate struggle between right and wrong, evil and benevolence, and as I sat there in the theater, I couldn't help but think about how stories such as this one brings us all together in the joy of the experience, something rarely found these days. One of the musical highlights of The Lion King is this wonderful song, Hakuna Matata, so please relive a fond memory and click play. Then go on and have yourself a worry-free day!
Upstart Australian singer and all-around musician Tash Sultana has got a debut album, Flow State, that's critically acclaimed and for good reason. Here's one of my favorite songs from it. Check out the bluesy, psychedelic Cigarettes...
Judging from this, her breakout song, British singer Mabel may just be a new favorite of mine. There's something about this song that I absolutely love! Check out Don't Call Me Up...
I don't know, but lately The Handmaid's Tale has been prominently featuring specific songs in its episodes lately. A couple of weeks ago it was Aunt Lydia singing Islands In the Stream during the time before the revolution, and last week it was this song by Belinda Carlisle that had a recurring spot in the episode, and that put it in my head ever since I saw it. Here's Heaven Is a Place On Earth...
I first discovered Finnish singer ALMA a little over a year ago and I've loved everything she's put out so far, and this new single gives her more dance-oriented sound a whole new dimension. Lonely Night has a melancholic feel to it and it's so catchy it stays in your head long after a listen. Check it out...
Ed Sheeran is such a talent! I don't know one song of his that's not beautiful, and this new one featuring the talented Khalid is awesome! Check out Beautiful People...
I am back from Cali and just caught up on the latest episode of The Handmaids Tale, which very interestingly shared the story of Aunt Lydia before the dawn of Gilead. Turns out she was a schoolteacher and in an odd way, a caring person. For a moment there, it seemed as if the matronly leader of the handmaids, equally matronly before, was about to fall in love after a magical New Year's Eve with a gentleman. That ended in disaster, but not before an odd karaoke version of this Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers classic. Here's Islands In the Stream...
Good morning and Happy Friday! Well, for the very first time in my life, I am finally going to the beautiful state of California today. So excited! Check you on the other side. Here's California Dreamin'...
The latest from superstar deejay/producer David Guetta is a pleasant dance track featuring the beautiful vocals of Brit pop singer Raye and a steady, pulsing beat. Check out Stay (Don't Go Away)...
Alternative band OneRepublic have a new song out that's pretty catchy. It's the band's first single since 2018's Connection and the video stars Dancing With the Stars: Junior Edition's Cody Bingham who fends of a gang of bullies with his super dance moves. Pretty entertaining! Check out Rescue Me...
