Hump Day Song of the Day - Murder On the Dance Floor - Sophie Ellis Bextor

Today's song comes straight outta 2001, and my CD collection.  Such a catchy one this was back in those days and it still works.  Here's Sophie Ellis Bextor and Murder On the Dance Floor...

Pride Month Song of the Day - Absolutely Not - Deborah Cox

Image result for absolutely not deborah cox

Canadian singer Deborah Cox is somewhat of a gay icon.  With a string of dance hits from the late 90's and beyond, her songs reside in many a gay playlist.  This hit from 2002 appeared on the Queer As Folk, Season 2 soundtrack and for good reason.  The power beats, sassy lyrics and strong vocals were typical sounds heard at the mystical Club Babylon.  Here's a live performance of Absolutely Not...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - All This Time - Sylver (Jonathan Peters Remix)

I had so much of you, I couldn't dream last night
I feel the touch of you even though you're not by my side
Can't get enough of you cause you make the darkness light
And after all this time, you still possess my mind

I've been listening to a lot of old dance music lately, all the way from the 90's and through the 2000's, and when I came across this one on Tuesday I knew I'd be posting it today.  Jonathan Peters' All This Time is a dance anthem classic, with a killer hook chorus that you just have to sing along to when you here it and stays in your head long after a listen.  The song is full of highs and lows...my favorite kind of dance tune, and I just learned this morning that the woman singing is none other than Sylver Logan Sharp, a former lead singer with Nile Rodgers and Chic.  Great voice, great music, awesome tune!  Check it out...

Song of the Day - Thank You - Alanis Morissette

It's Thanksgiving Week!  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and although I'm not exactly in the spirit, I'm gonna try and get into it through, what else?  Music!  Even though we've all got problems...that's just life...we've all got a lot to be thankful for, no?  Here's a classic by Alanis to get us started...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Can't Hold Us Down - Christina Aguilera, featuring Lil Kim

I've been revisiting the catalog of Christina Aguilera the past couple of days and especially loving the Stripped album all over again, and I even blogged about the song Cruz last night over at John's World.  Oh man, that album is classic X-Tina and I'm remembering all over again why I played this one out back in the day.  With so many great songs like the two I mentioned above and Fighter and Infatuation and Walk Away and Beautiful and, and...so click play, relive a memory or two, and go out and have a great Friday...

Song of the Day - Satellites - September

Even an angel can end up falling
Don't you cry because you're crawling
Start again, it's a beautiful morning
For satellites

Here's an old favorite song of mine.  It's by Swedish recording artist September and it was pretty hot around dance music circles when it came out in 2005.  It popped out of my All Time Favorite playlist of mine on my iPod and I just knew I wanted to post it.  Check it out and enjoy!

Summer Jams Song of the Day - Hung Up - Madonna

Time goes by, so slowly...

August is Madonna's birthday month and this will be the first of several Madonna Summer Jams to be featured in the coming weeks.  In fact, it is the first Madge song I've put up this summer, surprisingly. It's hard to believe that come this October, Hung Up will be celebrating its 10th anniversary, first being released in October of 2005.  It is clearly one of her greatest, cleverly employing the music track to ABBA's Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight), and turning it into her own.  It was the era of the Madonna Disco...Confessions on a Dance Floor...and it was hot!  Enjoy your Sunday...

Summer Jams Song of the Day - Murder On the Dance Floor - Sophie Ellis-Bextor

It's murder on the dance floor
You'd better not kill the groove, deejay

Good morning and Happy Monday.  After missing a few days of Song of the Day posts (I was away and had terrible connectivity issues!), we are back.  One of the only things that keep me going on those long road trips is music, and I spent a good portion of my trp listening to a folder in my iTunes that I call my All Time Fave Dance Songs and this is one that had me singing along and dancing in my driver's seat.  This one's from all the way back in 2001 and if you don't know it, you should definitely check out this most singalong jam...

Summer Jams Song of the Day - It Just Won't Do - Tim Deluxe, featuring Sam Obernik

Well there's very little to be learned about today's summer jam.  Other than the lyrics and the video, there seems to be relatively nothing on Tim Deluxe, Sam Obernik or the song itself.  All I know is that it appeared on a club mix CD that I bought somewhere in the 2000's and I love it.  From the fast-paced rumba track to the nasally-voiced vocals, this one's both unique and fun.  Check out It Just Won't Do...

Summer Jams Song of the Day - Love At First Sight - Kylie Minogue

And everything went from wrong to right
And the stars came out, filled up the sky
The music you were plaing really blew my mind
It was love, at first sight

Cause baby when I heard you
For the first time I knew
We were meant to be as one

Thirteen years ago yesterday, June 10th, 2002, Kylie Minogue released her third single from her breakout Fever album.  The song was called Love At First Sight and it followed the smashes Can't Get You Out of My Head and In Your Eyes and solidified the Aussie's bona fide explosion on to the dance music scene here in the U.S.  Fever was my first Kylie album, and I've been following her faithfully ever since.  This tune certainly fills the bill as a summer jam, and so...

Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Don't Call Me Baby - Madison Avenue

Here's a dance tune from 1999 that reminds me of my deejay days.  The artist was an Australian duo by the name of Madison Avenue and the tune really took off on dance floors for almost the entire following year.  Sexy, dancey, delicious!

Song of the Day - Get Ur Freak On - Missy Elliot, with Nelly Furtado

Honestly, sometimes I have no idea how the music industry works...

Ever since Missy Elliot's nice guest spot at Katy Perry's Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, I've been wanting to post one of Missy's videos, and I knew exactly the one I wanted to post, this remix of Get Ur Freak On featuring a very young Nelly Furtado.  I vividly remember being wowed by this version of the smash hit single off her 2001 Miss E...So Addictive album.  At the time, Nelly Furtado was brand spanking new and her vocals on this track were slamming and added a whole new dimension to the song.

I remember a video, different from the original Furtado-less version.  It took place on a city street at night, and like many of Missy's videos, featured a lot of stuff going on, including young Nelly doing her thing.  After a long fruitless search for that video, I had to be satisfied, unfortunately, with this audio-only version.  Now, I do own the MP3 of the song, but even that took me a long time to find, and the apparent disappearance of the video from the Internet leaves me scratching my head.  I'm sure it's some sort of legal issue, of course, which is so frustrating because I am sure many more people would click play if they had the visual to go with the audio.  Anyway, for what it's worth, check out Get Ur Freak On with Nelly Furtado.  It is worth a listen...

Song of the Day - Simply Being Loved - B.T., featuring J.C. Chasez

I just came across this dance/electronica tune from 2003 that I used to absolutely love.  B.T.'s Simply Being Loved was one of the deejay/producer/singer's biggest hits ever and for good reason. The song is smooth and dancey and NSYNC's J.C. Chasez' backing vocals meld perfectly with the sound. Check it out...
