Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Younger Now - Miley Cyrus
For this Friday's flashback we delve into the recent past and Miley Cyrus' last album. She had taken a turn back towards her country roots and I found it to be really nice, especially the album's title cut, Younger Now, which you should check out below...

Best of 2017 Song of the Day - Younger Now - Miley Cyrus

One of my favorite songs of 2017 is this, the second single from Miley Cyrus' Younger Now album. Virtually all of the songs on the record show off a newer, more mature side of the talented young songstress, and this song set the tone for that. Simply beautiful! Check out Younger Now...

Best of 2017 Song of the Day - Malibu - Miley Cyrus

The year 2017 was an especially nice year for 25 year-old Miley Cyrus, who created a newfound sound that is much more mature than her previous efforts. Several nice tunes have come off Younger Now, and this beautiful, melancholic tune is one of the best. Check out Malibu...

Song of the Day - Jolene - Miley Cyrus

I was going through some saved links and I came across this one from way back and I must've saved it for a reason, probably to post it here. Apparently, in 2012, Miley posted some videos of herself performing several cover tunes from her own backyard and called it...what else? The Backyard Sessions. Here the young singer covers a 1973 hit of her godmother's, Dolly Parton's fabulous Jolene. Enjoy!

It's been awhile since Justin Bieber has put anything out on his own, though he's been doing just fine singing along on other artist's songs. Well, this week Justin releases a brand new single with Bloodpop that's more of the same great pop/dance/R&B we've come to know, with pleasant melodies nice vocals, and an easy to learn chorus. Song of the Day - Malibu - Miley Cyrus
I never came to the beach , or stood by the ocean
I never sat by the shore, under the sun with my feet in the sand
But you brought me here and I'm happy that you did
'Cause now I'm as free as birds catching the wind

I always thought I would sink, so I never swam
I never went boatin'; don't get how they're floatin'
And sometimes I get so scared of what I can't understand
But here I am, next to you
The sky's more blue in Malibu
Next to you, in Malibu
Next to you...
Well I'm back from my little adventure in the woods of Pennsylvania, and like most any trip away from home, there are certain songs that will forever remind me of this fun and relaxing time. I spent a good portion of my weekend laying out by the pool, and that time was accompanied by a great selection of music, which included several recent Songs of the Day. Miley Cyrus' Malibu was one of those songs, and it was during this weekend that the very essence of this beautiful song gripped me whole. If you were to ask my friend Sonny what song would remind her of this weekend, I'm pretty sure she'd say that this was the one, too! Check out Malibu...

Unoriginal, Narcissistic, Low Life Nicki
I thought I was watching the Jerry Springer Show! In case you haven't seen it, Nicki Minaj got all Springer at the VMA's last night after accepting an award for Best Hip-Hop Video, calling out host Miley Cyrus for supposedly trashing her in the press.
And now, back to this b**ch who had a lot
to say about me in the press the other day.
Miley, what's good?
The reference that she made happened during an interview Miley had done in which she was asked about Nicki's complaint that she was snubbed for Video of the Year, saying that "if your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year...Black women influence pop culture so much, but are rarely rewarded for it."
Cyrus alluded in the interview that the complaint was more about herself than at the bigger issue at hand. "I don't respect your statement because of the anger that came with it...You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that's like, 'Eh, I didn't get my VMA."
Well to me, the whole thing just embodies what is wrong with the music industry and society in general, and I won't be buying any more Nicki Minaj songs anytime soon. First of all, the amount of narcissism that exists today...freaking ego!!! I'm sorry Ms. Nicki, but Miley was right in her response. Referring to the Artist to Watch Award, which Cyrus lost in 2008, she shot back, "Whatever. Because it's no big deal! It's just an award, and I persevered!" Really!
Aren't pop stars supposed to be role models? This is what our kids have to look up to? The head wagging and calling someone out live, on stage. And all because she said something negative about you. Boo hoo! Suck it up Nicki. You wanna be in the spotlight, and carry duffle bags every time you go to SunTrust, you gotta be able to deal with compliment and criticism. You wanna change how people look at black women? Don't portray the very embodiment of what people ignorant people think about them.
And as for the music...I'm sorry, but Anaconda is not your best work by far. In fact, it;s like a lot of other stuff out there in the entertainment industry nowadays: unoriginal! That song is just Sir Mix-a-Lot copied, with a couple of Oh My God! Look at her butt's. Really? Again, as a woman, you're portraying yourself way differently than you want to be treated. And you're a freaking millionaire, too! God, there is no justice in the world, when someone like you with a modicum of talent gets to walk around living it all easy breezy objectifying women using an unoriginal song and then wanting to be rewarded for it. Ugh, if there's any justice in the world, karma will bring you back as a much lower form of life the next time around...
Oh, and you can check out the exchange on Rolling Stone.

Song of the Day - Come Get It Bae - Pharrell Williams, featuring Miley Cyrus & Tori Kelly
Here's a down home funky groove from Pharrell Williams that I completely missed last year. Thanks to Spotify, I've been lucky enough to find gems like this one, which features an uncredited Miley Cyrus and Tori Kelly on backup vocals. It's one of those tunes that ya love the first time you hear it. Check it out...
