New Music Fridays: July 28th, 2017 - Hot, Fresh Tracks

Hey and welcome back to John's Music World New Music Fridays.  I apologize for the tardiness in this week's post, but I was away until Monday night and there were an inordinate amount of new tunes to pore through and choose for this week's spotlight.  So without further adieu, here are some of my favorite new songs from this past week, and the week's offerings are so good, there's way more than five:

Would You Ever - Skrillex & Poo Bear

I've never been a big Skrillex fan...always seemed a little too hardcore for me, but this fresh new one's got a great, thumping, happy groove.  Check it out...

Medusa - Grace Savage

I love a great chill tune, you know, the kind of song that you can be playing that makes great background music that's doesn't get in the way of good conversation yet keeps everyone grooving in their head. Yeah, that's this one...

Learn to Let Go - Ke$ha

Oh, Ms. Ke$ha's got a brand new sound.  With all of the tribulations she's gone through over the past couple of years, she's come out of it and is now proving what a prolific and talented songwriter she truly is.  Gone are the days of brushing teeth with a bottle of Jack and here we are treated to a more mature and thoughtful singer/songwriter...and it works!  Check out Learn to Let Go...

Fashion - Randa

Here's one of those songs I just can't seem to find anywhere on the Internet, but it is definitely worth a mention here.  The tune's got a hot groove and the vocals are rapalicious!  Check it out on Spotify.

F*ck They - Sofi Tucker

Here's a mindless and hypnotic, bassy dance tune by dance duo Sofi Tucker.  Check it out...warning, explicit lyrics ahead...

There you have it, five of the freshest new tracks from this past week.  As I said, though, where last week's selections were slim pickins', there are even more new and noteworthy tunes from this week. Here are the honorable mentions...

Don't Wanna Wake Up - Capital Kings - A nice, dancey tune.

No Fear - DeJ Loaf - R&B groovealicious!

Hide & Seek - Felon - I almost chose to highlight this thumping dance track, but here it is anyway.

New Romantics - Taylor Swift - I am not now, nor have ever been a Taylor Swift fan, but this is one tune that's surely pleasing to the ears.

Make It Up to You - Julia Michaels - This one reminds me a little of early Kelis, with a thumping beat, deep, sexy vocals and finger-snapping beats to boot.

Well that's it for now.  Hopefully this coming Friday's list of new songs won't be so extensive.  For now, though, I'm going to be enjoying some of this hot new stuff.  I hope you will be too!

New Music Fridays: July 14th, 2017 - Five Great New Tunes

Related image

Hey and welcome to John's Music World New Music Fridays.  I haven't posted anything non-Song of the Day in awhile and I thought it was about time I got back into some other music business, namely new music.  I often post new tunes in my regular posts, but I don't always get to all of the ones I like. Friday is the global day for new music releases and so I thought I'd start a new weekly post on my favorite new songs, gems that have come under my radar at first listen in the hopes of becoming a regular in my rotation.  I don't always get it right, but there are enough tunes that do end up on my playlist...and Song of the Day.

So here's our first installment.  Five new tunes that'll hopefully catch your ear as they did mine. Please take note: these posts will almost NEVER be done on a Friday...sorry, but I needs time and I've got a life, too!

In & Out - Beth Ditto

Okay, so I've never heard of Beth Ditto until just this morning when I discovered this awesome, finger-snapping little gem.  Turns out she was the lead singer in a band called Gossip and she just released her very first solo album, from which this song comes.  In & Out has a groovin' retro feel to it, with a background guitar riff set to Ditto's sultry, beautiful voice.  Check it out...

Woman - Ke$ha

One of the biggest news stories to come out of the music world lately is the return of Ke$ha to the music scene.  After releasing a new single, the solemn and tender Praying, just two weeks ago, the beleaguered singer/songwriter returns with a more up tempo, in-your-face female empowerment tune that's more like a hard-driving country, bluesy tune than the dance stuff she's known for, and done very well at that.  And we all know where she's coming from, too.  The woman is talented!  Check out Woman...

Show Me - John Splithoff, with Madison Ryann Ward

Chicago native John Splithoff is an independent artist who's just released only his third song and I loved it the first time I heard it. It's a happy tune full of nice grooves, smooth vocals and a whole lotta soul.  Check it out...

Sorry Not Sorry - Demi Lovato

Fans of Demi Lovato are going to love this brand new steamy torch song, her first in awhile and it's a definite winner. Check out the singer performing Sorry Not Sorry live...

Miracles (Someone Special) - Coldplay, with Big Sean

Now I've never been a big Coldplay fan.  I've always found their music kind of depressing, but ever since they worked with The Chainsmokers on Something Just Like This they seem to be a little more upbeat.  Just take this one, an unlikely collaboration with rapper Big Sean.  Check out this brand new ear candy...

So there you have it, five brand new tunes to check out.  I hope you found these suggestions useful and please stay tuned for more...

Song of the Day - Blow - Ke$ha

Free Ke$ha!

I'm sure that many of you may have been following, or at least been aware of, the whole Ke$ha saga in her lawsuit with SONY.  To make a long story short, the talented dance music singer/songwriter lost her case in which she tried to get out of a contract with producer Dr. Luke and his Kemosabe Records, within the SONY family.  Ke$ha claims the producer drugged, raped and abused her a decade ago, all of which he denies.  Any-who, the court sided with SONY and Luke and now the only way for Ke$ha to record new music is with them.  Sad!  Read the full story on Rolling Stone here and in the meantime check out one of my favorite Ke$ha tunes...

Summer Jams Song of the Day - TiK ToK - Ke$ha

Wake up in the morning feeling like P.Diddy
Got my glasses, out the door, I'm gonna hit this city
Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack
Cause when I leave for the night I ain't coming back...

Who can forget this classic debut single from talented temptress Ke$ha?  TiK ToK was the lead in to her first album, 2009's Animal, and it is a classic summer jam.  Click play...
